I am definitely seeing some action regarding park place coffee. there is some remodeling going on...
Great to see some car eradication measures. Obvious stuff that should have been there from the beginning.
Looks like they're building a little sidewalk table area for Park Place Coffee

Yes, they are!quincunx wrote: ↑Jun 17, 2024Looks like they're building a little sidewalk table area for Park Place Coffee
Let's hope that they will be the anchor tenants for that building.
No, across the street next to Ocean Grill on DeBaliviereSTLAPTS wrote:Park Place Coffee is going into the Expo Building?

The work they’ve done looks pretty good! The patio area definitely spruces up the sidewalk.nahart wrote: ↑Jun 18, 2024No, across the street next to Ocean Grill on DeBaliviereSTLAPTS wrote:Park Place Coffee is going into the Expo Building?

It’s a little comical being right next to Ocean Grill. As we’ve seen in recent weeks, the bus stop can get a little riled up too. Maybe with the recent landscaping work, barriers to cars, and security measures, the space transforms rather quickly to being enjoyable.
I really think Debaliviere has so much retail potential and would do a lot to get the Central Corridor more connected and make the Forest Park experience better for locals and visitors. Delmar outside of the loop trying to get going too (very slowly).
I still really can’t believe expo can’t even draw a market or pharmacy. You’re telling me Walgreens doesn’t want one of those new spaces? Feels like the Fields Food space might be the best chance at a Trader Joe’s in the city right now too (or one of new Midtown developments).

@delmar2debaliviere2downtown Amen! i love how park place coffee is trying to spruce up their patio area. i also am hopeful of all the recent deterrents like police camera, barriers, empty police car, etc Small, independent pharmacy would do well as opposed to big chain. I am optimistic about future though!

I’m not sure what’s going on with the upper floors of that corner building, but I would love to see this spur some development there as well.
There is an occupancy permit application submitted June 27 for Park Place Coffee.

Is it a franchise of park ave coffee or an independent coffee place? cannot see it on web site.
I saw `Park Place Market Coming Soon` sign inside 286 DeBaliviere.
Has anyone noticed that two retail (floor to ceiling) windows in the north expo building have been shattered? Any insight?

Even with those large forbidding buildings which seem to overbear on two lane DeBaliviere that area has a feeling of emptiness about it About the same emptiness as when the strip mall was there
Broken glass? Big panes of glass that look into nothing; just too tempting for some.

Park place market/cafe is now open. They had decent traffic today - it was exhilarating to see that. On their opening day, they were swatting flies.

I think the area looks great now. Was at the Starbucks this weekend. Yes I’d like to see the spaces filled but not sure what is “forbidding” about a bunch of new residents moving in to 4/5 story apartments?

I believe Starbucks closed, lost their franchise license from what I read

Closed permanently? Surely not a sales thing. Always was busy. If so, Expo has got to figure out their retail. I am assuming that they are closed temporarily while getting another license.

I don’t know, really hoping temporary

That corner is a cluster mess of busses trolley pedestrians scooters vehicles. Drove down Forest Park heading west (4:30 pm weekday) and vehicles were lined up to turn north on DeBaliviere Glancing down DeBaliviere it was way to tight for all that activity. It looked frustrating.
But oh well "it is what it is"
I said no ty and passed it up and contributed west on Forest Park
Previous times I have driven north down DeBaliviere and where it meets Pershing there is some sort of entrance on the west side to a garage? NO signage; at the least not easily visible. Is that an entrance to parking for the tenants or for anyone?
Retail in that area? Where would I park?

This place looks great, and while you don't like to see any dead spaces, it's mildly pleasing to see this open as heartless, corporate, we've failed utterly at being a third place Starbucks is closed across the street.stlurbanist wrote: ↑Sep 01, 2024Park place market/cafe is now open. Their cold brew isn't terrible. That's extremely high praise from me as I make my own, only from Ethiopian beans. I've become an obnoxious hipster about that--to quote my friend who encouraged me to make my own, "now all coffee tastes like sh*t unless I made it."
I fear for E61 in the old Pura Vegan Space, which just opened. I really really want to see them succeed. There are about 7500 people living in DeBaliviere Place+Skinky D, and the WashU set from the west side of Skinky-D doesn't go east, and the mansion people on the east side of DeBP don't go west of their impenetrable walls. So you're looking at like 4000 max (?) in walking distance of Belt. But Park Place will have thru foot traffic on DeBaliviere.
I'm gonna make sure I buy a cold brew a week at both places.

That's great to hear. I am interested in understanding your comment on "impenetrable walls" - is that deliberate or just a physical barrier?throatybeard wrote: ↑Sep 10, 2024and the WashU set from the west side of Skinky-D doesn't go east, and the mansion people on the east side of DeBP don't go west of their impenetrable walls.stlurbanist wrote: ↑Sep 01, 2024Park place market/cafe is now open. It's crazy how fast that area went from under served to over-served. E61 has Greek treats and a nice vibe, I could see them establishing a nice regular crowd.
To answer the above ^^ there is a free 300+ space parking garage under the Expo to serve Metro and the retail that is literally never full
