That Copaken project has incentive approval for the upsize. A plan amendment should be no issue and can get foundations permits already.

The KC Current women’s soccer team, along with Marquee Development, revealed their vision for their $800 Million+ development at Berkley Riverfront Park at the PortKC board meeting today. The $200 million first phase (includes 400+ apartments, 40+ affordable apartments at 50% AMI, 10+ restaurants, and 2 acres of park enhancements), is supposed to begin construction later this year. The rest will be built out over the coming 10 years.

Looks like the first images, while crummy, of one of three RFP sites on Hospital Hill have been released courtesy of the Mayor.
Two other parcels, one for residential and the other a hotel, have also been chosen. Block Real Estate won the parcel shown in the renderings and hotel (A and C). Riverstone Capital won the other residential parcel (B).

Across the street from Parcel B, and catty-corner from Parcel A, UMKC will break ground on this new building in the coming months. So a flurry of activity on Hospital Hill. Whether it all happens remains to be seen.

Absolutely stunning. Glad there’s an effort to really interact with the river more. I was recently in Austin and really loved the connection that city has with its natural resources. I really wish KC would take more advantage of that.

Exciting new development planned in downtown KCK. It would be amazing to remove the North Loop, and the massively invasive viaduct over the West Bottoms, to connect downtown KC with downtown KCK. Hopefully this is just the start of what’s to come to that area!

Missouri legislators pass tax break for Kansas City nuclear weapons campus expansion
![]()

https://missouriindependent.com/2024/05/17/missouri-legislators-pass-tax-break-for-kansas-city-nuclear-weapons-campus-expansion/A proposed expansion of a nuclear weapons parts manufacturer in south Kansas City could get a boost from a tax break Missouri lawmakers passed Friday.
With only hours left in Missouri’s annual legislative session, the state House voted 141-2 to authorize a sales tax exemption for construction materials purchased to expand the National Nuclear Safety Administration campus, operated by Honeywell International Inc.
The legislation now goes to Gov. Mike Parson.
State Rep. Chris Brown, a Republican from Kansas City, called the legislation a “win-win.”
“It’s a small ask on the sales tax exemption,” he said, “and it’s really about economic development. And at the end of the day…it’s about making sure we are keeping our nuclear facilities, our nuclear defenses — keeping them safe, keeping them dependable, and keeping them reliable.”
The National Nuclear Security Administration plans to spend more than $3 billion to expand its facilities in Kansas City, where workers produce non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons, according to a fiscal analysis on the bill.
If the administration built the facilities itself, it would be exempt from sales tax as a government entity. But to expedite the expansion, the federal government plans to acquire the buildings from a private developer. Supporters of the legislation argue exempting the private developer will keep the costs on par with what the federal government would pay itself.
The fiscal analysis of the bill says it would divert about a combined more than $150 million in state, county, city and Kansas City zoo sales tax revenue over 10 years, but it says the exact cost couldn’t be verified.
Staff legislative staff wrote that the bill’s “fiscal impact could be significant.”
Palmer Square has applied for initial zoning approvals to build 3,400 units at the River Front

This project is insane, can't say I'm not a little jealous. Do we even have 3400 units in the pipeline city wide?
More details have since been published. That number is total across all developers at the Berkley Riverfront, it’s a Master Plan zoning update for the entire district. Palmer Square & Marquee Development will only be building a portion. Cordish’s riverfront plans and the new NorthPoint proposal are also included in that total. Not included is the 150 unit hotel that Ballys proposed this week. That’s its own zoning planGoHarvOrGoHome wrote:This project is insane, can't say I'm not a little jealous. Elections have consequences. Anyone here in KC who’s shocked by this is disingenuous. If they hop state lines, my preferred outcome would be them going into Downtown KCK and helping revive that neighborhood. That way, the team owners can still be in “Downtown”, the stadium would be towards the center of the region, and Kansas gets their wishes.

Google is now also moving forward on their second data center complex in Kansas City, this one closer to KCI. Plans filed for the 1st DC at a 1.8 million sqft development next to the Meta complex. This area near KCI now has around 4.5 million sqft of data centers planned or under construction.

Wonder what kind of hit the grid is taking from these data centers. I doubt we are building enough renewable energy projects to offset the increased load
They consume an enormous amount of energy and water at the expense of green land and provide very little in the way of employment. Americas energy policy makes this extra demand every consumers problem. As someone indirectly involved in site selection, data centers prioritize cheap land, cheap water, cheap energy.
States rethink data centers as ‘electricity hogs’ strain the grid

“While data centers boost local property taxes receipts, they don’t do much for the state, he said, and shouldn’t receive preferential rates. And they are being built faster than new energy generation can be added.”

We should build more green energy faster. The solution isn't less data centers, those are going to happen, its more green energy.
Speed up permitting, speed up confections to the grid, don't let green energy projects constantly be sued by people who don't want to move forward.

Sure. You’d think. You’d also think they’d find time to issue a legal warning for defamation. Something that could be done quickly.Debaliviere91 wrote:Though I do seriously dislike the Chiefs, this is totally fake. There is no connection between them and Gomez.addxb2 wrote:Racist team name

They likely did issue a legal warning behind the scenes. I think her video has been taken down, so that would make sense.addxb2 wrote:Sure. You’d think.
