There is no serious metric  where STL and Kc are competing in the same pool.    They are to us what we are to Chicago.

A more apt comparison would be “they are to us what we are to Minneapolis.”
I don’t like that one because it’s two major cities in one metro but it does fit

minn/stp metro gpd $250b
STL- $190b
KC- $130b

But per person
$67,567
$67,639
$54,347

Oh now this thread can go off the rails. I personally enjoy the Global City methodology.

I don’t understand why Lisbon is so high.  Metro is same pop as STL but gdp size of KC

Berlin too, the city alone has 1m more people than metro STL but same GDP

I believe everything I post here and on the KCRag. There are some things that I’d like to say on both forums about each city, but I hold off. For KC, there’s a long list of things I will b**** about one of these days. Friends and family know and it’s just as rough as what I say about St. Louis. I believe both the good and bad things out of tough love for both cities. Both can grow and thrive, and that’s what I’ll always say until I’m dead.

As for my blog, eh. It’s whatever. It’ll become a faded memory for many more than it already is as the domain will expire and won’t be renewed. It’s only been maintained for a few people at this point.

I’ll keep posting the good news and my opinions here and on the KCRag (which in both instances has been a majority of the time) while introducing a sprinkling of severe criticism in both places when necessary.
No disrespect meant, but aren't you like 25 years old, Chris?  And, despite you having investments in STL City, you never lived in STL city?

You're good. I lived in South City up until early 2016. Specifically, Oleatha near St. Joan of Arc (my grade school). I enjoyed living there because my friends were close by and we'd spend considerable amounts of time at Tilles Park and would sometimes walk up to Target, McDonalds, and the former video store where Chick-Fil-A is now. Prior to moving, my friends started moving away and my grandparents started needing care in Affton.

The mentality of Kansas Citians, especially on KCRag, is so gross.

I'm thankful to be out of that town, and I'll never live there again.

Thanks for sharing.  I've appreciated the STL development news you break on Twitter! Looks like you are doing the same in KC.  Anyway, keep up that kind of thing, but also keep in mind that KC is just KC, man.  LOL

A mid-sized, pissant midwestern city (like STL) that will never be in the same category as Sun Belt cities, Texas cities or even Minneapolis.

We are what we are - older cities of solid amenities that will see rather small population/GDP growth in our lifetimes. Doesn't mean we can't/shouldn't try to improve things here  mind you, but boomtowns we are not.

Both cities have “sports bros” that take immature swings, but in my experience St. Louis boosters (especially here on UrbanSTL) are more levelheaded.

STL has a deeper history with corporate business, urban planning, social issues, economic development, and journalism that I see come through the many expert authors on this forum. I believe St. Louis has a mature urban dialogue network (twitter, urbanstl, nextstl, even cityscene)on par with Chicago.

KCRag, in my experience, is more surface level. Closer to a Reddit thread. Churn the same talking points or rumors to comfort themselves but a lot fewer who are willing to acknowledge that St. Louis isn’t nearly as weak or dormant as they’d like to imagine.

End of my rant in this thread.

I’m not well versed in the aviation business but I am fairly comfortable around corporate communications.

I don’t think Lufthansa would send the regional director of sales to media with “This line is well above the financial break even point.” three weeks ago.

A lot of different ways to say something positive yet cautionary. That’s not it,

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On the surface I don’t have a huge issue with it staying 3x a week. I’d rather that than prior years of us arguing about not having service at all….

My issue more comes with some of what we are hearing not lining up.

Quote 1
This line is well above the financial break even point.

Quote 2
This one I don’t remember it exactly so I am generalizing.
“3x a week isn’t operational sustainable or doesn’t make sense operationally” something to that effect.

Quote 3
The main thing keeping us from going to 5x a day is lack of crew. Again something to that effect.

Well now they just added a bunch of cities, including some on the same aircraft type we have. So crew can’t be the issue for the not going to 5x. And if 3x isn’t sustainable then it needs to go up or it goes away.

So my overall issue more is I am not sure what to believe anymore if we aren’t moved to 5x a day.
Jshank, as a trusted source, you’ve peaked the interest of Chris and others on KCRag by feeding into this. They’re foaming at the mouth for an opportunity to see St. Louis lose something.

Not saying the worst won’t happen… but taking a step back, there is virtually no evidence that Lufthansa isn’t anything but thrilled with StLs performance as a 3x city. Sales and untouched incentives indicate as much.

Airliners, UrbanStL, Twitter, and KCRag have all overacted to non-news. At this point, I think the Post or BJ would’ve broken a story if there were one.
I’m not THAT concerned since everything has been positive. And there is still time to add more flights. Something just doesn’t sit 100% right with me at the moment. But like I’ve said before, I would rather arguing over if we should be concerned about 3x or 5x than not having a flight at all.

So if people at kcrag want to stir the pot that’s fine. They can post on their message board while they sit in airports during extra layovers we don’t have to deal with.

They need to worry about themselves and we can worry about ourselves.

Until their business community steps up I think we get a 2nd airline to Europe before they get their first, unless it’s Iceland coming back to them. They should be more concerned with that.

Motion to just stop caring what KCRag collectively talks about and/or thinks and leave inter-internet forum disputes to people on Reddit to litigate. Can I get someone to second the motion and then a floor vote, please?

It's not just KCRag, which I didn't know existed until very recently. Twitter and Reddit is just filled to the brim with angry KC dude/gal who hates everything and everyone St. Louis. And not just sports.

At least move it out of the airport thread. Maybe there should be a separate Intercity Quarreling Thread

That's great news.

Montreal is IMO the greatest North American city. It feels like they choose to prioritize biking/transit/walking for livability reasons instead of just being forced to because driving is awful and there's no room for more cars.

Great beer and poutine, too!
