Gun and cars, cars and guns, like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly.

StlToday - Vehicles damaged, officers nearly shot at City Foundry STL parking lot

https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/cri ... c1a3d.html
Maybe this is normal but this seems like it shouldn’t be when someone has illegal guns.

“ Police said juvenile court authorities advised officers to release the three boys to their parents. “
This unbelievable only in STL! Caught with powerful weapons we all know Glock are the favorite to make them automatic, illegal, stolen, they shot at cops, broke in cars, shot at other teenagers and are released to their parents. 16 and 15 should be processed. People lose faith when stuff like this happens.

I have yet to visit and am completely ignorant of the situation on the ground, but how is it that Foundry and the Armory are not providing security for their own lots yet? Every article I see about car break-ins never mentions anything about either establishment providing security. I don't think these break-ins will necessarily diminish their popularity immediately, but I think it would cause people to hesitate if the thefts continue unchecked for the foreseeable future.
That surface lot by Vandeventer is seemingly perfectly set up for this type of activity. It's cut off from the rest of the development - both visually, as it's around the corner from the main entrance and psychologically, as there is little to welcome you to the site and there are no windows or even much in the way of signage to welcome folks who park there.

It's also relatively poorly lit - there'sa decent amount of ambient light from the vicinity but I didn't recall seeing any lighting in the parking lot itself.

And finally being up against the street makes for a relatively easy escape route - especially if you're fleeing on foot.

I understand why The Foundry wouldn't want to invest tons of cash into a temporary lot. But by not doing so they've made it an inviting target for these types of smash and grab crimes. They 100% need to add more lighting - even if it's just temporary poles on trailers - and a security station.

If you're a customer arriving by car, use the garage. I don't think I've heard of any issues there. The surface lot is a spot of last resort for me.

Hopefully once Phase II wraps up they’ll move relatively quickly on something to replace that surface lot. Maybe something like this older Phase II concept. Originally was proposed as office, but in today’s environment I could see a hotel working there. I’d rather see that west surface lot filled in before they move to the Fair St. Louis site to the east.

When the start moving east SLU should rebuild the podium of Reinert Hall to continue Foundry Way all the way to Grand

At least last night around 7pm there was a Garda security patrol in that lot driving around slowly in a RAV4.

I think the office building project here is on pause until more favorable commercial market conditions return, kind of like the Sandcrawler, it’s hard to built on spec without a anchor tenant

MoModerne is moving to The Foundry. Great store for Mid-Century furniture and decor.

Fassler Hall is finally out of the picture. Gerard Craft is planning a BBQ place in the space.

Meh.  We already have the foodcourt - I would prefer something experiential rather than a restaurant. A beer hall sounded like a good time.

^Agreed. It'll be fine either way I'm sure, but the beer hall did sound fun. Ah well. Hopefully the restaurant will do well.

Heading South on Vandeventer this morning, I noticed this new apartment tower makes quite the impact.  It is pretty massive, great addition to the area.

I noticed that glass has been delivered and is resting on the lowest floors of the residential portion of the tower. I imagine we'll see glass be hung in the coming days. Here's a view from Grand and Chouteau.

Looks like they only have one more floor left to form and pour. Still no sign of work on the office building component, but I'm not too concerned. It's a small building built with mass timber. When they begin, that one should rapidly rise.

Love seeing all the glass. I'm really looking forward to more contemporary design in STL.

Just had lunch at City Foundry. Impressed by the variety of restaurants.....food hall was packed at lunch time. Seems to be doing very well.

Yeah it has been busy any time I have gone in the evening, and it doesn't seem like any of the places have closed down. I assume they have some kind of contract but still, if they weren't making money you would expect to see some turnover.

Biggest issue to me is not enough seating. Seems like every time I go it is tough to find a seat. But that isn't the worst issue to have.

^We've usually sat at the bar. Solves a lot of problems. But yeah, the place seems pretty successful so far. Really does remind me of a miniature version of Union Station back in the day. I almost hate to say this, but if they'd made Union Station's parking free the place could have killed it. (Sadly that may be what's required in this town. And yes, I'm aware you could get your ticket validated. Same at St. Louis Center, as memory serves. But to do that you had to buy stuff, and that might be the perceived burrier. Not sure what you figured you were going to do while you were there, but . . . who knows.)
