That should resolve it self once the apartments are open but I’m surprised Foundry doesn’t have security at that entrance

Went to the Foundry the other night and it was absolutely packed. Ate at PuttShack and had a genuinely good time.

Unfortunately upon leaving I found my car was broken into. A classic smash and grab. I came to find that at least five other cars were smashed open as well. One family said they saw the perpetrators still inside their car rummaging around when they were heading out. These people were from the county and said this is the type of thing that makes them think twice about coming to the city. This all happened in the parking lot by the new apartment building. This back lot is dark, out of the way and could definitely use more lighting. Though a shame, I realize that this is just part of living in the city and look forward to heading down to City Foundry again. This time with more precautions.
Sorry you had to deal with that.  We went late afternoon on New Years Eve and noticed the glass around that lot upon leaving.  That's a shame, but a reminder that these facilities need parking lot security.  If not, the negative PR from instances like this will hold them back.  Unfortunately, the smash and grabs (primarily looking for guns) are hard to stop and aren't exclusive to the city.

That note aside, we ate in the Food Hall.  It was delicious and packed (a lot of Blues gear).  Between my wife and 2 girls we had Press, Subdivision and Sur Este.  All were good but was especially impressed by Sur Este.  If I had a criticism for the space, they could do a better job activating the bar area with better lighting and more local taps.

We then headed over to Putt Shack which we all enjoyed.

Can confirm that I had lunch at the Foundry on Tuesday and saw broken glass commonly associated with car break-ins in that lot

Went to Alamo on Saturday night, saw the same thing when I came back out from the movie (around 10:30).  Also, agreed thank you all the updates!

Management should clean the lots.  It's a part of running your business.  Every night after close.

Foundry was the busiest I’ve seen so far today. I hate to say this in a group of urbanists, but parking was very limited. The retail stores are really filling in, and was a great buzz of activity. Some food stalls had lines of 20-25 people. We decided to eat at Puttshack to eat together at once vs. waiting. Service and food were better than expected. We walked over to UpBar. I’m still disappointed in the pedestrian experience around there.

It’s amazing to see how things are popping during the January “blahs”.

I have friends in from out of town and took them to both the Foundry and Armory. They’re from Atlanta and were greatly impressed with both places and the general activity in midtown.

I was amazed to see the parking challenges. I actually had to drop everyone off and cycle around. I almost thought about parking over at IKEA or by SLU and walking over.

In fact we went to Humphreys afterwards and I kind of wish we parked over there. But crossing the Forest Park Super Expressway on foot is not for the faint of heart.

Excited about how packed everything has been, but yeah still a little work to do in that area.  Like this, I park on the street here and get out to walk on...rocks?  Is it just a cheaper alternative to concrete or just something temporary?  Seems bizarre lol.

^ Seems like the perfect footprint for a future phase 3 residential tower and or full service/ballroom type hotel.   Believe their 5 year period of height restrictions as part of the Foundry historical status but that must be fast approaching.

Thats a sidewalk, not a footprint for a tower.  unless you are suggesting they demo the garage?

I believe that’s a temporary solution until Brickline gets there, then it’ll be a 10-12ft wide “shared-use” trail.

^That was also my assumption, but I wonder if that will still happen here since they plan to extend the Greenway along the Metrolink tracks, AND rebuild the Foundry trestle at some point. Hopefully that's not an excuse to drop this section.

There is overflow parking and a shuttle from the IKEA parking lot for The Armory (at least on somedays/times). I think that option needs better signage and explanation. Haven't used it myself.

The armory section is actually a piece of the north branch which continues up through SLU then Spring & N. Grand. It’d happen regardless of E-W alignment.

Demo the garage.   Crushing and recycling concrete would not be a huge cost relative to what you could build there on a site they already own.  Thinking long term, phase 4 or 5

Where would you want parking to be?

You could demo that garage and put a larger garage in its place, only with useful purposes atop it instead of nothing.

Additionally, if it's a phase 4 or 5, you would think that they'd add more parking in phases 3 and possibly 4.

Is that student housing project still happening at the corner of Forest Park Ave. and Vandeventer? I haven't heard anything about it in a while and wouldn't be shocked if it's dead. If it is, it also wouldn't surprise me if we saw Foundry purchase the site and put parking there, especially if they have any plans to enhance the site of their current garage down the line.

Any idea if there is any activity around pushing the Foundry East and incorporating the Fair St, Louis Foundation building.

From what I’ve heard, the Foundry is in talks with Fair St Louis/VP to basically relocate them but they have to find somewhere to house parade floats that’s also close to the parade route.

Maybe this is normal but this seems like it shouldn’t be when someone has illegal guns.

“ Police said juvenile court authorities advised officers to release the three boys to their parents. “

I have yet to visit and am completely ignorant of the situation on the ground, but how is it that Foundry and the Armory are not providing security for their own lots yet? Every article I see about car break-ins never mentions anything about either establishment providing security. I don't think these break-ins will necessarily diminish their popularity immediately, but I think it would cause people to hesitate if the thefts continue unchecked for the foreseeable future.
