They suck. I've been to the one out in Schaumburg (suburban Chicago). I'm still pissed about it 7 years later.jacob_rb_15 wrote: ↑Jul 12, 2022I'm talking about one similar to the Legoland Discovery Center in Kansas City, Chicago, Etc.
The West County Mall one is okay.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Jul 12, 2022The Lego retail stores are pretty sweet. Disney Springs in Orlando has a beauty. If the Foundry scored one of those it would be an instant crowd draw.
I was at the Chicago Water Tower Place Lego Store two weeks ago: it's about twice the size. That and American Girl were about the only places with activity in that rapidly dying mall.

A Magic House type attraction actually makes a lot of sense for the Foundry provided of course they can make the numbers work with the exorbitant rent. Someplace parents can release their children to run free while they hang out with their friends at Fassler Hall, Alamo Drafthouse, the Food Hall, or the Golf Place.

^ Playstreet Museum in St. Charles might be a good model. If they can afford to be in the Streets of St. Charles you would think a similar business model could work at Foundry.

Urban Fort is a similar local concept.STLEnginerd wrote:^ Playstreet Museum in St. Charles might be a good model. If they can afford to be in the Streets of St. Charles you would think a similar business model could work at Foundry.

Still early and a project may not happen but a conference hotel is talked about at the Foundry

If I could be allowed two guesses, please.
1. The lot just to the south of the apartment towers that are under construction. I believe I read somewhere that they wanted that parcel to be for offices, but it wouldn't surprise me if they shift focus and go with a hotel that would have excellent visibility along both I-64 and Vandeventer.
2. A replacement of the ugly buildings along Spring Ave. at the entrance to Foundry way. The buildings look junk-y and the entire area would benefit from their replacement, whether it's for a hotel or something else. The hotel would have fantastic visibility along I-64, but also within the Foundry district. Anybody on Foundry Way would be able to see the hotel when looking east.

^ A third option but would have to wait another couple of years if not mistaken is replacing the current parking garage along FPP. Leaves the parcel just south of current apartment residential tower open for the proposed offices and or more residential along Vande. I believe it would still have the same freeway visibility.
I think the area would do well with a full service conference hotel I believe everything built of late is along the lines of Aloft. Would only help the Foundry food hall and maybe open up some catering opportunities on small scale,
Getting off topic, but will the residential at the corner, FPP and Vande, be breaking ground this year.

I think soon, they were having some supply chain issues.
These are from the end of June showing a lot of interior progress. I imagine more has been done in the month since then.mjbais1489 wrote: ↑Aug 03, 2022Anyone know of a timeline on Alamo Drafthouse?

Just saw a semi truck driving down Forest Park Parkway from Sarah Street. On the flat bed behind it: the big outdoor sign for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Good times.

They really need some trees, greenery, art, and some general activation along Forest Park Parkway. Even my non-urban centric friends made a note about it when we were there last weekend. Also, we crossed to go to Element/Upbar - it would have been nice for a mid block crosswalk between. There were several groups doing the same. I know this has all been said before but really surprised they can’t add something!

Wasn't FPP one of those streets that got hit real hard with the removal of the horrible Bradford Pears and diseased Ash trees?dbehrens011 wrote: ↑Aug 10, 2022They really need some trees, greenery, art, and some general activation along Forest Park Parkway. I have yet to go inside City Foundry but when we were in Washington DC a couple weeks ago the boutique hotel we stayed at was just steps from their version called Union Market.
https://unionmarketdc.com/
The exterior of which was extremely industrial and while the neighborhood surrounding Union Market is gentrifying I didn't sense that there are too many plans to change how it looks there (basically a lot of row warehouses)
Which makes me wonder if that is the general "feel" they are going for with these urban food halls.

DC has Eastern Market and Union Market. Eastern is surrounded by row houses and retail, Union is in a once industrial zone that is now becoming developed with large apartments and condos. Eastern is more like our Soulard Market but smaller and Union is kinda similar to what I think they are doing at Foundry.Baltimore Jack wrote:I have yet to go inside City Foundry but when we were in Washington DC a couple weeks ago the boutique hotel we stayed at was just steps from their version called Union Market.
