omg we're back to unhinged talk of forced merger.

She’s not resigning by noon today. Zero chance. She will fight this, make it STL vs Jeff City, Democrat vs Republican, black vs white.
It’s a tired playbook but it’s the only she has right now because she’s a complete, inept loser.
See yesterday’s letter dated February 2022. Hahahahhaha. LOSER

The black mayor, a black state rep, and plenty of other black people in St. Louis are now publicly no longer on her side.
She doesn't have a leg to stand on anymore.

she's not resigning nor is the AG quo warranto going to convince Supreme Court, being bad at a job isn't not doing the job, it's all waste of time and money.
I know, leave her alone and we should stop being haters.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 23, 2023she's not resigning nor is the AG quo warranto going to convince Supreme Court, being bad at a job isn't not doing the job, it's all waste of time and money.

we literally have no options, its hard to get rid of someone elected to a position even if they commit crimes (see trump)
people thinking it will be all rainbows when Gardner is gone are in for a rude awakening, her gone doesn't change the fact that SLMPD has bunch of inept officers who can't properly collect evidence or process crime scene reports. Do you think the state AG has an actual plan for what comes next if she is removed? what happens to 1000s of active cases when 75% of her staff resign en mass (because if you're still working FOR her after all the mess shes created you're on her side), what happens when it takes the state 2 months to turn the lights back on at the office?

I think criticism of KG is fine. Her philosophical approach is controversial to say the least and her approach to cases like the McCloskeys didn't scream prosecutorial impartiality, it seemed more like pandering. Proper enforcement IS part of her job so there should definitely be an investigation into where the process broke down in this specific case. If the people don't want her back i think that's fine. But demanding resignation on the heels of one random accident just because it happened downtown is a little over the top to me. The incident was tragic and thankfully she wasn't killed but people get straight up murdered in St. Louis every week and we are numb to it. Its a big city and stuff like this will happen on occasion. Scrub the process fix what's broken. That may mean she needs to go but I don't like circumventing the electoral process in any but the most egregious cases.

Right. The AG is just trying to score political points. He doesn't even have to get what he is asking for he just wants to be seen in that light. I think fixing underlying problems is critical and that may require cutting her loose but demanding resignation is just a retread political play and its sad. Fund a quality candidate to replace her and let the voters decide. When she is replaced make sure the office has the resources to do what's being demanded of it. Oh and tragic stuff will still happen from time to time so lets keep a sober perspective.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 23, 2023we literally have no options, its hard to get rid of someone elected to a position even if they commit crimes (see trump)

I completely forgot about George Peach.

If Gardner did resign, the situation would mirror the resignation of former Circuit Attorney George Peach in 1992, who left office amid an ouster effort and criminal investigation into his handling of city funds. Peach had been prosecutor since 1977.
In March 1992, Peach had been arrested in a suite of the St. Louis Airport Marriott hotel after offering $150 to a woman for sex. The woman was a St. Louis County detective.
Then-Gov. John Ashcroft, a Republican, named fellow Republican Richard Swatek to serve the rest of Peach’s term.
I was speaking to both city and county residents that can’t be trusted to make the right decisions. And we can’t. Just look around lol.Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Feb 23, 2023"St. Louisians can no longer be trusted to make the right decisions. As much as I hate the state…they’re going to have to step in"
So rural MO counties that would tomorrow vote 80% in favor of returning an insurrectionist to the White House can be trusted but we can't?
Sounds about white.
Maybe a poll tax for everyone living east of Skinker too huh?
These problems require regional solutions and we’ve shown time and time again we’re perfectly fine with the status quo and changing nothing. If I thought there was a real chance the people that live here would step up I might feel differently but there is literally no indication that will happen without some sort of outside intervention.
I don’t support state control of the PD, originally I didn’t support a state prosecutor either…but this changes things. I don’t even like the idea of a forced merger, but it’s hard to argue the benefits Indianapolis has seen over the years while we wallow away in self-hatred and stagnation. It’s exhausting.

"I find it ironic that none of the genuine issues with her management has brought about her downfall, but what very well might is a situation where her office really did nothing wrong." An alternate take on Kim Gardner's woes

Yes, it's easy to argue. Unigov has been great for optics but not so much for the advancement of its people. And this gloom and doom about Saint Louis is exhausting.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Feb 23, 2023I was speaking to both city and county residents that can’t be trusted to make the right decisions. And we can’t. This situation is only a microcosm of the ineptitude and bad management that lead the CAO from being able to retain and hire enough competent staff.
She needed to go long before this. Glad she stepped directly on the undisguised bear trap and issued that joke of a statement.
^^It can't be all rainbows and butterflies all the time either. This forum is not restricted to boosterism...SC has been around for a long time on this chat board, like many of us. His frustration and cynicism is well earned. While I don't agree that the state has to step in, I do think our record as voters has been a more than a touch dodgy when it comes to electing many of our leaders. Does it mean that we aren't to be trusted in masse? Of course not. "The people don't know what is best for them" is garbage.

So a noted defense attorney is sad an easy mark might lose her job? Shocking.

I heard it said that Kim G is a public defender masquerading as a prosecuting attorney. I hope she resigns not only for the good of STL, but
for her own good. Also, speaking of merger, I would advocate to simply give Kim G resources to Wesley Bell office and let him take over
the city prosecuting office.

Appreciate that, and yeah...I'm pissed and am being a bit over the top. Obviously St. Louisans aren't stupid, but our leadership often speaks for itself. I'm just fed up. I love it here and I'm not leaving but this could be a much, much better place. For that to happen there's going to have to be some tough choices and some sacrifices made. No, it doesn't have to be a unigov setup and preferably it could be done without state involvement...but we need to step up and show we're capable of making that change then.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Feb 23, 2023^^It can't be all bainbows and butterflies all the time either.
