Pretty depressing.

Could this project be brought back to life under Jones or another mayor?
I'm guessing the answer is no.

It sure would have been nice to have an urban greenway like this already, instead of having to catch up with other cities like we are doing now
Too bad they went for 2-way bike lane on one side of the street. Better for one direction each way on either side of the street. Best would be 2 ways on either side but a fair big missed opportunity here.LArchitecture wrote: ↑Jan 18, 2023Open house for the grand, cass ave and spring roads was this evening. Wasn’t going to happen. Per my conversation with the Civil and LA they only have funding for the west side right now w anyway or enough funding to only do the west something like that.RuskiSTL wrote:Too bad they went for 2-way bike lane on one side of the street. My opinion is 2 ways on one side are better but I see it from a design and engineering standpoint as they are easier to get built that way and financially cost less. That is from personal experience though and could differ city to city.
Another example of how we are a 'this or that' city rather than a 'this AND that' city. Would have been pretty damn transformative.TheWayoftheArch_V2.0 wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2023Great piece, Q. A revelation to me that Slay is the one who halted this transformative project.
Little imagination of our city (or region for that matter) as a full-picture which plagues developments into islands, media sensationalism, blighting, and eventual disinterest. Little enthusiasm or confidence it seems (even if this was over a decade ago) for anything that might detract from prosperity elsewhere.
^ And yet there was no plan or thought to narrow Olive before they repaved it
Slightly off topic, yes, but they had a major opportunity here in tandem with Brickline coming to fruition here. How much longer do we have to look at that monstrosity of a street?

I've always wondered what function those goose-bumps serve as seen in the bottom right of this pic?

They're supposed to be for blind people so they can sense where the sidewalk ends and street begins. In practice, they are so haphazardly installed most of the time that they can't be relied on for that purpose.
Oh, I hadn't thought of that; makes sense. I always figured it was for traction in wet conditions.
^ They’re called truncated domes, and yes they’re for blind folks. Same reason there are strips of them on all MetroLink platforms.
Yup. They ***** up River2Arch AND Choutou's Lake. Had they got those both right, Downtown would be buzzing. Saint Louis would have the good rep that went to Nashville.bwcrow1s wrote: ↑Feb 04, 2023Another example of how we are a 'this or that' city rather than a 'this AND that' city. Nashville has a good national reputation for several reasons. None of those reasons are related to their park or multimodal transportation networks.

I missed that Nextstl article when it first came out but holy hell what a bunch of idiots. I am amazed the railroads where ammenable to Chouteau lake district and it was the city that rejected it. Insane.
Someone needs to resurect this. GRG needs to see why this is the potential crown jewel of their system.

^ Thanks for posting DB. With 100% local matching in place and with strong local donation it seems that Brickline might be well suited for another Fed grant or two.
Honestly think the last bit to be built should be around the Market St/FPP/I64/Grand mess. Talk about an opportunity to redo the area now that MoDOT/city is seeking feedback on future changes.

A vote on the request could be held as early as next month. Officials signaled they support the project. “There are some game-changing projects in the city’s core,” said Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, who sits on the finance board.

For whatever reason I'm not able to view the old street view from the Chestnut ramp, but this gives you a bit of an idea of the past:

I assume they will be rebuilding the Jefferson Bridge in the near future to accommodate Metrolink, it sure would be nice to have a nice 2-way protected bike lane connecting south on that bad boy.
I have heard that there is consideration of building a completely separate MetroLink bridge to the west of the current roadway bridge so that they don't have to do anything to the current structure. That's from someone that is in the know for things, but not directly involved in the planning work. So take that for what it's worth, but it does make sense.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Jun 02, 2023I assume they will be rebuilding the Jefferson Bridge in the near future to accommodate Metrolink, it sure would be nice to have a nice 2-way protected bike lane connecting south on that bad boy.

Wouldn't they have to build bridges on both sides of the existing viaduct to do that?
^ No, the line will most likely run down the center of Jefferson. It would just shift over and cross the rail yards and then shift back.
It's actually a pretty good idea and likely saves a bit of money compared to demolishing and rebuilding Jefferson. Probably explains Roach's phrasing when he said the transfer would be in the vicinity of Ewing Yard.
