Not open on weekends? That's unfortunate.

^Interesting. Glad someone is moving in. Asian sandwiches are a dead delicious thing. Not had any Japanese sorts, but I look forward to trying it. :)

The old Eat-Rite Diner in downtown St. Louis was supposed to become a new concept, Fleur STL, which was supposed to open in Spring 2021.

It seems this fell through or is majorly delayed.

When I first heard of Shake Shake I was like, ‘do we really need another burger place?’ But maybe Danny Meyer was onto something — it’s getting increasingly more difficult to find a good burger. Seems like every place that used to serve a bar burger is now Mexican, Poke or some Chick-Fil-A bandwagon iteration — looking at you Chicken Out (like the world needs another chicken sandwich place).

IOW, I miss The Dam.

^ This is a Sando Shack, not a Shake Shack.

Having said that I always thought Shake Shack was mediocre at best. Same with all the other ones like Whataburger, 5 Guys, etc. I feel like if you want to get a good bar burger you actually have to go to a bar these days.

I see how you got confused. I know it’s not a Shake Shack. I was talking about when I first heard of the SS concept like 5 years ago. Yet, five years on and burger places are disappearing…hence Shake Shack’s business model.

The difference between a bad burger and a good burger is really not that far. A burger can only get so good and then it’s gilding a lily. Like being wet. Once your underwater, doesn’t matter if it’s a swimming pool or Lake Baikal—you’re only going to get so wet, no more.

My two cents.

I know it’s dangerously close to the forbidden land outside the 270 loop, but the Village Bar in Des Peres is top notch.

^ I’m not a big burger guy but I hear J. McGraugh’s in Clayton has some of the best.

Also if you wanna have a burger west of 270, have one. If anyone gives you sh*t about it, tell them to f*ck off haha. ;)

Except burger places aren’t disappearing. Unless you only eat burgers at sh*tty chain restaurants like a Shake Shack…

Yes it is, great food all around.  Dragons only a couple miles west.

Why drive there when its a food desert?  Tell me one elite burger place past 270.

^ There are actual food deserts, many more of them, east of 270 than west.

Just to reiterate, I don’t give a sh*t about a burger. My point was eat where you enjoy eating…if people are insecure enough to give you crap about it…f*ck them.

If we’re still talking about burgers here, I always liked Chuck-A-Burger. If I’m the area, I stop by there.

I wasn’t criticizing you…at all.  It is a shame tone isn’t translatable on the internet.  If we were having this conversation in person it would not at all read the same way.  Unfortunately, in an online forum I have no say on how you read things.  So, I guess I’m an a**hole for saying these gimmicky chain restaurants are sh*tty hahaha. I’m fine with that…I expect nothing less from folks here quite honestly.

I consider myself a foodie of sorts, though I think almost everything has a place, including those chains.

I wish a Chipotle would open downtown. And not because I like Chipotle all that much. I think just think it's something that is popular with people and that would be successful. I think they'd do really well in a place like Ballpark Village. I'd say the same for Shack Shack, Whataburger, etc.

I had Whataburger last year in Oklahoma City and thought it was awful. It was by far the worst meal of my trip, but people will line up around the corner for it.

That said, you still need your local Hi-Pointe and Bailey's Range-type places, too.

^ I asked them about a rehearsal dinner about 6 months ago and they were still under 'massive renovations'.

I'd say Annie Gunn's has a top notch burger outside of 270.  Concord Grill is pretty sound as well, though I guess that's inside the ring.

I saw work being done on Dressells a couple weeks ago. Really excited for them to be brought back into the fold.

Also I have to contribute to this burger convo. 5 Star Burgers is simply delicious. Perhaps I’m bias because I bussed tables at the Kirkwood location in high school, but damn. I’ve not found a match yet to that Blue Ribbon Burger with Hatch green chilis and Gorgonzola 🤤
