I think it is a good thought, plan. However, my two cent revision would be a Rugby Pro/Women's Pro team playing on same field as the proposed Rugby stadium near NGA I believe. However, being completely clueless on the sport not sure if that is doable in terms of the field itself, pitch or to different?dweebe wrote: ↑Jun 02, 2022My thought is to let's wait a few years and let the MLS team set some roots before we start banging the drum loudly for a women's team.
Like I pointed out most NWSL teams play in MLS stadiums. If anything I see KC's drive for a near downtown women's only stadium as a partial admission that Children's Mercy Park isn't a good location.

I'm with Laife - NWSL seems a no-brainer AND is a big brand builder for the entire club, which includes the development leagues, Soccer United Marketing, stadium events, national team, etc.

Agreed. I'm as excited as can be for MLS to start up, and I envision it'll be ridiculously successful. From initial ticket demand and hype, I can see Pro Women's Soccer being successful here; it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Right now, I'm keeping my eyes focused squarely on MLS successes being achieved first, both as a business and as a sports fan.dweebe wrote: ↑Jun 02, 2022My thought is to let's wait a few years and let the MLS team set some roots before we start banging the drum loudly for a women's team.
However this plays out, I continue to have full faith and confidence in the business efficacies of our leadership team, recognizing as well that Carolyn, Chrissy, and the other owners are highly driven and intelligent. As well, they're certainly great sports fans and incredible supporters of our City and region. We are certainly lucky to have them in charge. Whether or not they elect to go after Pro Women's Soccer as well as MLS, I'm fully confident they'll make the right decisions.
Random thought—I’m hoping Lufthansa will have some sort of broadcast-visible branding in the new MLS stadium.

The new windows in City's office building are a huge improvement.

I don't see why Carolyn Kindle-Betz needs to wait around to form an NWSL club.
If she thinks there is money to be made, and if she thinks she can pull it off, then she merely has to do what she's already doing with the MLS club -- hire people in the know and let them handle everything.

Let the MLS team get some footing. You want us to be running before we’re even walking.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Jun 03, 2022I don't see why Carolyn Kindle-Betz needs to wait around to form an NWSL club.

I know you want a womens team right bleeping now. But let’s get the stadium open and a season or two under the belt before we start calling her a failure for not also getting NWSL here.

Just FYI, Here's the quote:
"When ask if they were considering owning an NWSL team as well, this is what she said: “You know, I think at this point I've got to get some holes dug and some steel going in the ground. I think right now in order to really make sure we have a very successful 2022 season, that has to be the main focus. But certainly we're up for suggestions and any ideas.”

With Centene offloading much of their area office space i can see this being a good investment with that extra cash.
Interesting that there are a decent number of workmen there on a Sunday on the east side of the stadium. Our only guess was maybe the possible rain tomorrow.
No Bronze Boot game to soft open the stadium. SLU Mens Soccer announces schedule and the game will be at SIU-E
https://slubillikens.com/news/2022/6/23 ... edule.aspx
The Billikens will play five of their next seven matches in the St. Louis area, including the Bronze Boot game against SIUE on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill. The Bronze Boot rivalry dates back more than 50 years, and this will be the fourth matchup between the Billikens and Cougars since the Bronze Boot match was resumed in 2018.

I think I posted this in another thread. But it’s a shame they couldn’t figure it out. Would have been cool. Maybe next year.dweebe wrote: ↑Jun 25, 2022No Bronze Boot game to soft open the stadium. SLU Mens Soccer announces schedule and the game will be at SIU-E

I don't recall seeing lighting like that in the renders, is this new?

I’m spending a few days in Columbus, Ohio and their MLS stadium is beautiful. I hope that our finish product looks at least as good as this one but they did a great job!

It's crazy to me how similar the end product is to the renderings. Thanks for the pictures Chris.

You're welcome. It's fun to look back at the older drone photos of construction and see how far it came.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Jul 05, 2022^Looking great, Chris! Thanks for the updates.

That is nice to see. Hopefully those panels are translucent and that color can be seen from the top. If they rim the whole stadium in that way it would definitely help improve this design in my eye.
Which leads me to this point. I’ll probably get roasted but oh well.
I feel like this design is slightly underwhelming. Maybe more of a missed opportunity would be how to put it. Don’t get me wrong. I like it for the most part. I’m at about 80%. I just don’t love it - yet. But with just a few more tweaks I think it could have been much more pleasing ascetically. For instance take one of the stadiums best features, the glass curtain wall on Market. It looks nice and modern unlike the other three sides where you get views of the underside of bleachers and restroom/concession back of house like a D2 college. Why not extend that curtain wall to the other sides giving the stadium a uniform enclosed look all the way around. They could have still left strategic views open onto the pitch or the seating areas where needed.
Additionally, while the columns look great and the idea is befitting an end cap building sitting on a mall surrounded by other historical buildings. But again I feel like they could have done a little more such as make the columns slightly larger and more ornate. Nothing too gaudy, just a column with coved insets and maybe something more substantial as the base and caps. With the LED roof they could have even incorporated LEDs into the columns themselves. That combo along with the white palate of the stadium itself would be spectacular.
IDK, in the end I still think it will look great and maybe my issues will temper over time.

I think my biggest problem with this stadium is that it seats only 22,500 and not 30,000.
St. Louis is going to be a smash success for MLS and I think we'll ultimately wish we'd put more seats in Centene Stadium.

Idk how much of the $460M spent was just on the stadium itself but whatever it was (lets say $300M) its pretty pedestrian design on the outside compared to what you see in Europe and other places for $300M.
It's supposed to be complete this month, right? Is that still the goal? My main concern is the 348 non-gamedays per year.
Kind of disappointed there haven't been any announcements about events. We're going to need a lot more than 17 MLS games a year to make the neighborhood more lively. They should've already secured a women's pro team. Will the academy teams play there? With that stadium capacity and St. Louisans' fandom (see the XFL), MLS game ticket prices may cost more than a major European pro game.
Some earlier press coverage touted concerts, but how much will other events be allowed without concern for damaging the turf?
