by zip code doesn't capture all sales, sometime sales don't get coded by zip code, this is the City wide totals;
2019- $4,878,960,206.12
2021- $4,741,821,931.19
($137,138,274.93)
97.19%
sports alone isn't responsible for the entire downtown drag, stuff like lack of convention's, concerts played a big role too. there is no 2022 data yet but should be interesting to see where it lands

What happened in 63139?  Is the zoo a driver?

The zoo is in 63110. Do you pay sales taxes at the zoo?

At the History Museum store there's no sales tax. I wonder why it's different at the Zoo.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but this is a rather interesting Downtown Report from Cushman and references some projects such as 2 & 3 Cardinal Way. But I'm not sure how many of these projects are speculative and if some are possibly dead.
Any downtown folks in the know?

Yes, check the BPV thread. Nothing else regarding future phases has been confirmed, announced or otherwise finalized.

^ thanks. that BPV thread is a little off the rails btw.

So it looks like while most of the projects in the Cushman report are live, 2, 3 & 7 Cardinal Way are speculative.  Also not sure where Moxy and Jefferson Arms stand; Railway Exchange is going through an eminent domain process and any work is well off; and Fielder Lofts is just getting started in the process.  But overall still a pretty impressive list of what is active/live and there's other proposals more recently announced that are not on the list.

With rates going up I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more projects die or be pushed back

What a great start to the 4th of July in Downtown, two vehicles burned down in front of Knickerbocker Loft entrance. From looks the Nissan was the one that was burned and the one in front caught fire as well. It was so close to the entrance that its a miracle the building didn’t caught fire. Police officer came this morning didn’t even bother get out of his SUV. Hopefully camera’s caught the SOB that did this and if owners have insurance have these two cars removed.

Was it known to be intentional? Cars catch on fire all the time.

According to St. Louis Magazine, both Pi and Gringo at the MX have permanently closed. Ouch.

They just don’t catch fire when parked.

All it takes is a bad connection or a loose fuel line. Start the car and boom, fire. It's happened to me before.

Good news, Sommers seems to be checked out of the restaurant biz. Now those spots can be put to use

I've seen a couple of instances where they caught fire shortly after someone parked them. At a guess, the failures that lead to fires usually lead to the driver pulling over first. Lots a tree in front of my house to one of those. (Driver parked, car burned, and it damaged the tree enough that removal was required.) Actually, that's happened right in front of my house twice, in two different cities. (Once previously in Columbia. Didn't lose a tree to that one, though.)

Looking at Lucas Park from this 2009 Streetview vs. today is depressing.

It's now fenced off with south-facing gates closed and locked a lot of the time. There used to be benches there. I don't know what the long-term plan is for parks downtown, but it seems like it's to continually make them useless by making them inaccessible while removing all amenities.

On days like today, water fountains in parks used to be great, but I still haven't found a working one in any of the smaller parks in downtown and Old North (other than Kiener Plaza and the Arch). Is the parks dept. even in the business of providing water fountains at this time?

Interco Plaza sits there surrounded by construction fencing, same as when they booted the homeless last summer. It doesn't look like it's been touched.

Here's the KMOV report: https://www.kmov.com/2022/07/07/residen ... fireworks/

Looks like the po-pos decided it was "non-criminal." Which, of course, that way they don't have to do anything about it.

Crime is down. especially this type of crime, property crime. Only crime here is the people illegally parking on St.Charles next to the building. Including accidental firework misfire in crime stats would be akin to including car crashes

^Except they don't know it was fireworks and, even if that is the case, fireworks are still illegal in the City, correct? So this is the result of a crime. Seems like it would be pretty easy to determine the cause given the presence of cameras in the area--the stated reason for parking on St. Charles--but apparently the fuzz hasn't gotten around to investigating. Hopefully they do, but I won't hold my breath.

What if the police know the cause and it was.... wait for it.... non-criminal?

Would that satisfy the people that want it to be criminal?
