It appears the former 5 story school (?) that is SE of McGurks and the church at 12th and Russell has removed the for sale sign and there is some activity. If there is a thread for this please move post.

^Great news if the church has found a buyer for that building. They have rejected any offers for residential or a boutique hotel as they are worried about parking on the weekends. I've heard they only want it for Mon-Fri usage.

Are you suggesting there is some sort of covenant attached to the sale prohibiting use as residential, hotel and weekends?

That leaves only office, and that makes zero sense to me.  Isn't there a large lot in the back of this building anyway?

It is deeds restricted by the Catholic Church.  Restriction prohibits overnight stays.  Short of knowing the Pope the restriction isn't going anywhere.  Hence the reason it has been for sale for at least 5 years.

Got it.  Seems like something that could be rectified locally with Archbishop or Cardinal but I supposed most bureaucracy its much harder to navigate than one might think.

Two $150k building permits issued for townhomes at 1011 and 1013 Allen. Does anyone know what they will look like? I couldn't find it in the Preservation Board agendas.

No clue. I think they were permitted without a Pres. Board review.

1017-1019 Geyer, which has only been a brick facade for some time, has a SF building permit and work happening.

^ I've noticed that on my walks, exciting stuff.  Does anyone know how that house next door gets away from being all siding?  Not to be a Karen haha.  They also recently purchased the lot that was for sale next to them on the corner, and turned into an exciting yard for themselves.

I'm guessing it was grandfathered in. The historic code was rewritten in 1991 and clamped down on siding facing the street.

^ That makes sense, thanks. Too bad a new place couldn’t have been built where their new yard is. While we’re on the topic of that immediate area, is there someone to contact about getting a sidewalk (re)poured along Menard there? There’s just a beaten grass path for about a full block stretch.

I've done what I can to make that happen and it seems like one of those things that, because the property owner there doesn't care about it, it won't get handled. The best case scenario I can figure at this point is that the CID take unilateral action and just pay for it.

CRO staff recommends "That the Preservation Board withhold Preliminary approval as the roof deck and exterior alterations do not comply with the Soulard Neighborhood Historic District Standards."

Seems like an overreach to me. I think the technology to build roof decks existed in the 1800s...

They’re not “over-reaching” they can only follow the letter of the law.

The SRG has weighed in and recommended the Pres. Board allow the project.

Wouldn't want a rooftop bar to interrupt the vibe established by the neighboring Gas Mart and Energy Express

The Preservation Board votes 5-0 to grant preliminary approval with the condition that the railing be 4 feet back from the east wall and be painted metal.

^ was that taken this morning? if so we missed each other crossing paths!  And that's not all with the builder of those two infill townhomes; they also are putting an addition on the single family oldie next door at 1038 Geyer.  You can see some of the work in the pic.
