No limit - just the deadline of getting it passed for the Mayor to sign. The BOA could have had time for hundreds of revisions had they started the process a year a go rather than wait till the last moment.
^ They wouldn't have had updated Census results if they started a year ago, correct?
Block level census data wasn't released until September of this year, or maybe August? Either way...starting a year ago was probably out of the cards if I had to guess. Generally the city receives those updated Census numbers earlier...but the pandemic (among other things) kind of messed that up this time around.

Sure, but at least they could have started a community engagement side of things. Maybe not up to date maps with final census data, but at least use projections to create different options and get feedback from residents to see if there were any strong pushes for different types of combinations.
Yeah, I guess they could have done that, but this process seemed to end up with a map that most everyone agreed upon (considering half the members will lose their positions) with lots of public comment and multiple revisions.
As an outside observer it seemed to go exceedingly smooth. Just my opinion though. We'll see what happens with the question in April about an independent commission. That could muck things up, but Reed seems to have the opinion it won't change the map passed here (provided Jones signs it).

This is the final map for the decade. The group that wanted the April 5th vote will pull its petition
Is this a fact or what you think will happen? (not trying to be confrontational, genuine question)dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 17, 2021This is the final map for the decade. The group that wanted the April 5th vote will pull its petition
^ Yeah, it’s in the Post. Though they won’t pull it. They’ll just ask that if it passes any changes won’t take effect until the 2030 Census redistricting.

Mayor Tishaura O. Jones on Thursday announced she will sign a new ward boundary map that cuts the size of the Board of Aldermen in half, beginning in 2023.

She didn’t even need to sign it. Anything that gets over 20 votes automatically becomes law after 10 days
Also this bill didn’t cut the wards in half. That was done in 2012

Stltoday - St. Louis aldermen can still legislate while driving
"Opponents said drivers multi-task on a daily basis and asserted that participating in the board’s meetings via their smartphones in vehicles is no different."

absolutely batshit insane. they're parody-ing themselves at this point. like f*cking toddlers.
"The debate and the vote fell largely along racial lines, with most white aldermen in favor of the unsuccessful rules change and most Black aldermen against.
Tyus said she and other Black members were skeptical of anything that would result in taking away an alderman’s right to vote. Backers were “tone-deaf” for bringing up the idea during Black History Month, she added."

Alderman Vaccaro may have some valid points. He probably does - his description of events certainly within the realm of possibility. The video will tell, if it's ever released.
But saying he was pulled because he drives a 'fancy' Chevy Colorado? Laughable, and also irrelevant as he admits breaking the law. And getting out of the car and walking toward the officer is dumb in any circumstance, and in some cases could be interpreted by the officer as a sign of aggression. It could have ended worse.
As for the mask issue - not going to get into the politics of that at all. But that would be at best a police department policy conversation, as there is no mandate in the city to wear masks outdoors.
Not taking sides here; the likeliest possibility is that there was fault to be found on both sides of the incident.

Also - how often does the Chief reach out to Alderpeople to offer to "fix" tickets or other issues? I find it honestly kinda strange that Vaccaro would just blatantly admit that happened.

from working in City and State gov previously this kind of fixing is fairly common and known, but publicly talking about it another thing.Laife Fulk wrote: ↑Mar 02, 2022Also - how often does the Chief reach out to Alderpeople to offer to "fix" tickets or other issues? zero sympathy for Vaccaro driving 16 MPH over the speed limit in his shiny new murder truck and then trying to play the "but everybody else is speeding too" card. what an *sshole.
Good ole Joe. He and my family go way back. He’s a good guy with a big heart if you know him personally. But is he wrong that most other drivers ignore the speed limits? Routinely I’m pushed 10, 15 and even 20 over the speed limit on Hampton, Kingshighway, Gravois, River Des Peres, and Forest Park. I rather not go that fast, but I’m not risking a road rage incident, so I just roll with it. Besides, it’s nice to get places quicker when pushed. As for Joe’s actions in this situation, it could’ve been taken better than it was but it is what it is.

nobody is "pushed" over the speed limit. no offense, but that excuse is complete bullsh*t. on a multi-lane street or road there is no passing lane—you are not obligated to move out of the way for speeders. on the highway, you get in any lane that isn't the passing lane and you drive the speed limit. it's f*cking simple. take responsibility for your behavior. YOU are making a CHOICE to break the law and endanger people's lives. that's on you. nobody is "pushing" you to do it, regardless of how many other people are doing it.

Yep, agreed…seems to be getting worse over the last few years. No enforcement means the speed limit is just a suggestion. I-170 is like Mad Max most days with people passing on the shoulder. I’m usually going 10 over in the right lane just to keep pace.chriss752 wrote:Good ole Joe. He and my family go way back. He’s a good guy with a big heart if you know him personally. Folks, there's zero reason you have to speed and "keep pace." That's 100% your personal choice and other drivers can't force you to go faster.
