There are plenty of liberals who believe they "did every thing right" or that they "believe in vaccine science" and would protest a COVID death as either a moral failing or counterfactual. By which I mean that under-counting isn't strictly a red-county phenomenon.pattimagee wrote: ↑Dec 23, 2021And... if you think about that undercount in terms of the 'Red Covid' data that was just reported on... and which counties are at the top of that undercounted list... really makes you think how the red-covid is probably even more dramatic than previously reported.

That's a good point - interesting stuff here and nothing very telling (that I can dicipher) on REP vs DEM counties in the map.MarkHaversham wrote: ↑Dec 23, 2021There are plenty of liberals who believe they "did every thing right" or that they "believe in vaccine science" and would protest a COVID death as either a moral failing or counterfactual. In Cape Girardeau County, the coroner hasn’t pronounced a single person dead of COVID-19 in 2021.
Wavis Jordan, a Republican who was elected last year to serve as coroner of the 80,000-person county, says his office “doesn’t do COVID deaths.”

I guess I'm not as smart as Republicans because "thousands of people suddenly started dying in their homes for no reason" sounds way more worrisome than COVID.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 24, 2021https://missouriindependent.com/2021/12 ... -covid-19/

Why the hell are coroners an elected official anywhere? Jfc

I'm trying to recall who it was, but there's an author who complains about just exactly that in her books. (I think she sometimes writes mystery novels, but works as a Medical Examiner by day.)
I read somewhere that it is because a coroner is the only local government official who can arrest a sheriff (obviously non-local police such as state or FBI can arrest the sheriff as well). That's what one gets for modeling local government after 14th century English common lawTrololzilla wrote: ↑Dec 25, 2021Why the hell are coroners an elected official anywhere? Jfc

YES ITS THIS BAD The mailing list for Wash U med (every employee, student, faculty, etc.) just got an email saying they won’t test their own people for asymptomatic COVID anymore because they don’t have the capacity and recommended to go somewhere else. Consider how stretched they must be to have to do that…

This will be fine until everything suddenly shuts down in a few weeks when too many people are coincidentally sick at the same time. The important thing to remember is that nobody could've predicted this or prevented it.chris fuller wrote: ↑Dec 28, 2021YES ITS THIS BAD The mailing list for Wash U med (every employee, student, faculty, etc.) just got an email saying they won’t test their own people for asymptomatic COVID anymore because they don’t have the capacity and recommended to go somewhere else. ^ The White House has made a fascinating position around the current national response...
1. They are not going to seek further shutdowns.
2. They are advocating that everyone receive their shots, including boosters.
3. Same time, they are not going to mandate that everyone be vaccinated.
Everyone is therefore free to act accordingly while they advocate full vaccination...

The pandemic killed so many dialysis patients that their total number shrunk for the first time in nearly half a century. Few people took notice.

Its pretty crazy... Omicron is running loose and no one knowing exactly how it affects the unvaccinated in a vacuum (and even worse an unhealthy unvaccinated US population). And though I don't support it... it makes sense that this is the stance.

I work out 6 days a week, am in great shape. I got Covid, it was a headache for 18 hours for me. That’s it. My thought is if you’re fat, you’re going to suffer severe consequences. It’s proven how the virus feasts on fat cells. Therefore, get fit, reason number 2347 how it may save your life.

Being fit is good for your health. Avoiding giving everyone in the country a lethal respiratory virus is also good for your health. These are two true facts that do not conflict or relate to each other in any meaningful way.whitherSTL wrote: ↑Dec 30, 2021I work out 6 days a week, am in great shape. It may not seem like it now but Omicron replacing Delta can only be a good thing. The data out of South Africa suggests this could be the point that covid-19 becomes endemic, and once that happens basically things go 100% back to normal.

1) It is extremely premature to say that Omicron is milder than Delta. In May the news was full of articles about how mild Delta was.Ebsy wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2021It may not seem like it now but Omicron replacing Delta can only be a good thing. 2) Omicron is much more infectious than Delta. Even if it is milder, we're one unlucky recombination away from a variant with Omicron infectiousness and Delta severity.
3) The infectiousness of Omicron, by itself, makes it more dangerous than Delta even if milder, from the standpoint of continuing to have a functional society. Even if you're only half as likely to go to the hospital with Omicron, if you're 10x as likely to be infected then hospitals will be overwhelmed. And CFR is calculated in a context with adequate medical care.
I don't recall that being the case at all. But out of curiosity, I did a Google News search for articles published in May using the string "Delta variant + less severe", and I couldn't find a single article indicating that there was any meaningful scientific consensus that delta could be less severe than previous iterations of COVID-19.MarkHaversham wrote: ↑Dec 31, 20211) It is extremely premature to say that Omicron is milder than Delta. Do you have a link to any of these numerous articles from May where medical experts were suggesting that delta was a relatively mild variant?

It is absolutely not premature. It’s scientifically proven that it is milder.
