Great update. I love the density in this shot and hate the idea of what's about to go up in the middle of it:

The more I see the stadium come together, the more I feel like it was built with Square purchasing the naming rights in mind.
Jokes aside, awesome to see it continue to progress and come together. Will really be a shot in the arm for pedestrian activity and Midtown/Downtown West continue to see lots of exciting development.

Hopefully by the end of 2023 that same shot includes a completed 1801 Washington and inhabited Butler Brothers.

Guess people can quit thinking it might be named square with them changing names.
Yeah, but I would add that naming the stadium simply as "The Block" wouldn't be that bad of an outcome and better then it be named square IMO

It was never gonna happen, just like "fetch."jshank83 wrote:Guess people can quit thinking it might be named square with them changing names.

Instagram heaven. No question the architect placed the opening to line up with Chestnut street. The Civil Courts building is perfectly framed by the Arch.
I would have liked to see them open up that southeast corner just a little more, bringing those views into more of the stadium. But that ship has sailed.STLinCHI wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2021Instagram heaven. Question about the MLS stadium: Back when it was just renderings, it was said that the glass portion of the stadium near Market would be able to house e-sports gaming events. Does anybody know if this is still the case?
I'm not into e-sports - just curious.

Nobody has mentioned a change and a scaling back. It would make sense to get some non game day revenue out of part of the stadium and they indicated that south side would be an area for stuff like that.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2021^ I believe it is still planned to be a large event hall on non-game days.

I think it did get scaled back a little from the original announcement. I think the potential uses remained the same but the square footage dropped. Could be misremembering though.
Huh? I don't remember that being called out and the initial announcement looks to be the same.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2021^a little? Like 50%

db, do you remember why it shrank so much? It's basically an empty box. Did they move some things that were supposed to be across Market into the stadium?
I thought he was talking about the south pavilion. I'm not seeing what got halved.Black02AltimaSE wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2021db, do you remember why it shrank so much? It's basically an empty box. Did they move some things that were supposed to be across Market into the stadium?

From my recollection the space was much bigger on the south end of the stadium AND the stand alone building south of market got smaller too, it basically lined market the entire length of the bridge at one point and now it’s like 1/3 of it
Also don’t confuse the stadiums outer wall glass as the size of the interior space

But do you have something more than that saying stuff was gutted/scaled back?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Dec 03, 2021From my recollection the space was much bigger on the south end of the stadium AND the stand alone building south of market got smaller too, it basically lined market the entire length of the bridge at one point and now it’s like 1/3 of it

Still not seeing the 50% lost.
From the initial announcement. Looks a lot like what is being built except for the tweak in the SE corner.

Or are you talking about the south-of-Market proposals before the public money got voted down?

There were interior photos of the space within the stadiums south end that made it appear to be much larger than what the final product will be
As far as the building south of market, in this 2019 rendering, you can see the proposed building was going to line market street the length of the overpass but today the base of the new building is basically just 1/3rd

See the interior building thru the glass? I don’t think it extends that far down anymore. I’ll see if I can get a closer look tomorrow
