What's odd is that there is no acknowledgement or any mention whatsoever of the Smiths' record lottery jackpot win earlier this year...chriss752 wrote: ↑Aug 18, 2021Only newt id bit in that story is... "Soon to come to the Foundry is Fresh Thyme, which is set to open there later this year, and movie theater Alamo Drafthouse, which is expected to start construction within a few weeks. Even more yet-to-be announced tenants are in the lineup, Smith said"dredger wrote: ↑Aug 18, 2021Post Dispatch has story on Steve Smith and appetite for more projects after opening Foundry Food Hall. Jumps to paywall on link so not sure if any tidbits in the article and or updates on next phase, Residential tower & office space.
Still think the food Hall will be success for the foreseeable future. Another you can loot at is like a compass - SLU to the East, CORTEX/IKEA to the West, Armory/SSM to the South and Hotel(s)/Residential to the North. Foundry still needs help with connections and some more development around it, especially to the East and South. But the existing mix of employment, student and residents already in the vicinity is already strong and only getting stronger.
The story was mostly about the Foundry and the Holy Corners project.
Stopped by this evening, and noticed it's now closed on Tuesdays:urbanitas wrote: ↑Aug 13, 2021They changed the Food Hall hours on the Foundry website already, from:

Closed Tuesdays? What the hell? That's just as dumb as February having only 28 days.
I was told that the Tuesday thing is temporary and that this past Tuesday was the only day that closure would happen. We’ll see though. This past Tuesday, the Foundry was closed to allow for food stalls to restock, retrain, and practice after some had a rough opening week selling out and making mistakes. We’ll see if they make this a permanent thing, but I really doubt they will. If they keep it up to allow the unprepared stalls to prep, then maybe those stalls need to take a new approach to last here.
I went yesterday! Food hall was packed! They need to open the other food kiosks ASAP! Lines were insane…
Most of the places are simple plates nothing big or fancy but for the theme of industrial urban feel I guess its fine. I would ass food trucks as well to make more hip!
But I do see the potential of this place! I liked it… They need to add more outdoor seating! They ran out.
Walked around and saw a few established offices and they looked very urban and new age!
I think if they work on the facilities quicker is going to be a gold mine!

It still says closed on Tuesday on their website and social media. That would be pretty careless if it was just a one-time event in the past, but given their overall social media/PR efforts...not surprising.chriss752 wrote: ↑Aug 21, 2021I was told that the Tuesday thing is temporary and that this past Tuesday was the only day that closure would happen. And yeah, it's not like a restaurant which closes every Monday. The whole point of the Food Hall concept is that it's a place to go pretty much any time to be able to select from among a wide variety of unique prepared food options, and ideally, not feel like you're the only customer. If you want an early morning sushi taco, or a late night crepe, you go to the Food Hall. If half the stalls are closed at any given time or the whole thing shuts down for an entire day, they destroy that whole vibe - a vibe which is already not being helped by all the empty storefronts around the entrance...
What is the reason that places open then immediately reduce hours? I don't understand how one can deduce anything on future demand by the first few days of being open. Is it just a PR scam so that on opening day they can boast about having good hours?
Hours are reduced so easily, but it takes an act of god to get them expanded again (see every grocery store). How would a place even decide to expand hours, because even busy sales in the last hour don't seem to lead to expanded hours?
It's just kind of frustrating to attempt to eat dinner after 9pm in this town.

KMOV: "Within 5 days, 15,000 St. Louisans dined at City Foundry STL food hall"
^There goes KMOV with their negative STL city stories again SMH“The St. Louis community not only embraced our vision for St. Louis’ first true food hall, but also extended kindness and grace to all of our kitchen operators who are learning the ropes. We are so thankful for the support," Director of Operations Susie Bonwich said.
They seem to try to indicate that the food hall alone was $300m. Just another opportunity for the whiners to hit the mean streets of social media.

^Are you just guessing here? The article dates to February of last year...
Reminder: Phase 2 is the residential tower. Phase 3 (likely) is the office tower.

Yup. It was a Joe Bidin' executive order.Miss Shell wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2021^ Are there two Fridays in a week now? I must have missed the memo.

I have two Friday’s, one I work and the next I don’t and so on
Still no grand opening date, but the cafe inside Fresh Thyme now has a name, which, I assume, is a reference to the Foundry, Century Electric or otherwise:

I finally went to the food hall. Begrudgingly drove a friend visiting from CO and parked in the concrete blight along forest park blvd.
Once inside though I have to admit the space was really cool. The enormous fans, the endless complex remnants of the foundry. A palpable sense of many important stories.
Kept thinking how cool it would have been if metro-link stopped here. Or if it was a train station food hall.
Had good food ( dosas from turmeric and dessert from poptism)
Hope it endures long term but even if not, at the very least a unique and authentic space has been given a new lease on life.

Went to the food hall for the first time tonight. I thought the food was pretty good and will be back. The outdoor space is nice.
Only real issue: There still is a mask mandate in the city, correct? A majority of people wore them but there were more not wearing them than I expected and even one booth had no workers wearing masks. So that was surprising.
Overall I thought it was good. I think the space will be improved by more stalls opening though. There were some dead areas.
Also, the brick with some kind of clear resin over it kept making me think it was standing water out of the corner of my eye and I would instinctively step over or around it. Not really a big deal but I found it interesting.

There is one that is not enforced at all and that no one cares about anymore.jshank83 wrote: ↑Sep 09, 2021Only real issue: There still is a mask mandate in the city, correct? I keep thinking how cool it would have been to have an artistic, brightly-lit, landscaped, terraced pedestrian corridor, lined with cafe/bar/restaurant patios, leading down from the Forest Park Avenue sidewalk to the front door of the Food Hall...
It may be a concrete blight on the streetscape, but be honest, how many zombies did you see roaming Foundry Way?imran wrote: ↑Sep 09, 2021I finally went to the food hall. Begrudgingly drove a friend visiting from CO and parked in the concrete blight along forest park blvd.
