That building looks beautiful.

Why not with this one?
I'm sure some would hate it there, but I think it would be so neat. lucas-condos-boston-ma-exterior.jpg

I think you could do something like this and meet seismic standards. The structure would be the metal frame inside the building then the existing stone is essentially a masonry facade with a braced frame behind it. The main issue would be if the existing shell has a big enough footprint that the amount of square footage needed for structural components could be sacrificed and still make the project viable.urbanitas wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2021Again...seismic zone.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Aug 24, 2021I love this building in Boston and really hope we can see something similar in St. Louis with one of our vacant churches or buildings.

This one on Olive is much less attractive version than the Boston example, but the concept of a new building within an existing shell can be done in this city.
Renovations are underway at the former mortuary at 3620 Chippewa Street for the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum.

It's not as monumental a structure, nor as trendy a neighborhood, but I'm really glad to see them reopening. And honestly, I'm glad to see Chippewa get some love. I wasn't even aware the funeral home had closed. Wish the Southern Funeral Home had seen such an event.

Redevelopment of the Karpeles building appears to have fallen through. Not much to the article beyond that information

Not necessarily. Agenda items get pulled all the time for various things. Ie if he applied for 20 units and now wants to do 18 or 22 or another number he can’t just ask for that at the hearing since Board of Adjustment requires a 2 week public posting for what will be done at the property. So if this was posted for 20 units and now it’s 22 it has to be re posted and he has to go back inline which is like 4-6 weeks
Update!

Adam Kuene said Wednesday that a subsidiary of his Armin Properties recently bought the old Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum building at 3524 Russell Boulevard. He said he'd like to turn the building into 19 "high-end" apartments.
"We're going to restore the outside to its original condition," he added. The Greek Revival structure, built in 1911 as a Christian Science church, housed the museum from 2015 until the fire in 2019.

^To redevelop the old building or for the new location of the museum?

Thank you for the clarification. I wasn't sure if the permit referred to the post above or earlier discussion of the museum's move to the former funeral parlor.

2345 Lafayette Ave. would be an awesome building f or Karpeles to reopen in. Not sure if it would fit their needs though.

I drove by it the other day. I swear there is a large 'for sale' or 'for lease' sign in front of this building.

It's been there for years - like 10+. There's a reason why it hasn't sold, because they want so much for it and because they have restrictions on what it can be used for.

Any news on Karpeles? The place still doesn’t have a roof. I’m a little surprised the Compton Heights neighborhood association and Daniela Velasquez aren’t more vocal about it.

Fire engulfs former St. Louis mortuary, once owned by manuscript museum

Just this once, I'm inclined to think it might be coincidence. They sold the second building some time ago, apparently. On the other hand . . . is McKee on their board?
That mortuary has been a burned out wreck for six months or a year or more. I see it every time I drive down Chippewa. It's a shame, but it's not really new. And much less of a loss than their other building. Any news on that other building?

I'm pretty sure it was already burned, now I guess it's more burned?
