As somebody that lives in the city, and as somebody that believes the region needs the city to thrive in order for itself to thrive, I don't think I have Ray's same issues with what Jason Hall and Greater St. Louis, Inc. are doing.

Having said that, I'm not sure what he's surprised about? We knew from day one the people behind this would be the same folks behind Civic Progress. Putting priority into rebuilding the urban core was stated up front, repeatedly. Enough to piss off the St. Charles County executive, even. Unless St. Louis has quietly restocked its billionaire pool...I'm not sure where else Hartmann would have expected that financial support to come from.
Not sure if Greater St. Louis had a part in bringing a manufracturer into Hazelwood and not exactly an outstate win but win none the less for the region.. Have to believe that Rural Missouri has even a worse population growth rate, probably an ever decreasing workforce and the cavalier attitude about Covid are probably the multiple reasons why a growing manufacturer would relocate to a metro region. That and the fact that metro regions is probably where more and more of their business is coming from

I think his point is probably one that many of us would agree with, that positive development news gets drowned out by pieces about people be afraid to go downtown for a Rolling Stones concert.

Nah, I wouldn't give him that benefit of the doubt. This was absolutely a "fake news media only attacks us" partisan swipe. Gotta paint that picture that his administration is getting this all done in spite of some super secret resistance.
Can't speak to the change(s) with new faces in city development office as reported & posted on other thread but biz journals reporting a change at Greater St. Louis as well.. Those with a lot better insight and understanding can speak to pluses and minuses.

One thing I’d like for them to be more transparent about is this $200,000,000 for profit real estate arm they’re running.
If Greater STL Inc is using its access to elected officials and benefits that come from that to make projects happen for its $200m arm that benefits the 3-4 families that fund it, I think you’ll see other developers in town cry foul
