Within Ray Hartmanns musings about old and new guard is an interesting bit of news, Arch to Park Fund (for profit operated within Greater STL, the heart burn of Hartmanns musing) has raised almost $200,000,000 to invest within the City border, it’s backed by pretty much the local stable of billionaire families

As somebody that lives in the city, and as somebody that believes the region needs the city to thrive in order for itself to thrive, I don't think I have Ray's same issues with what Jason Hall and Greater St. Louis, Inc. are doing.
Yeah he kind of buried the lede there, didn't he?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Aug 23, 2021Within Ray Hartmanns musings about old and new guard is an interesting bit of news, Arch to Park Fund (for profit operated within Greater STL, the heart burn of Hartmanns musing) has raised almost $200,000,000 to invest within the City border, it’s backed by pretty much the local stable of billionaire families
Having said that, I'm not sure what he's surprised about? We knew from day one the people behind this would be the same folks behind Civic Progress. Putting priority into rebuilding the urban core was stated up front, repeatedly. Enough to piss off the St. Charles County executive, even. Unless St. Louis has quietly restocked its billionaire pool...I'm not sure where else Hartmann would have expected that financial support to come from.
Not sure if Greater St. Louis had a part in bringing a manufracturer into Hazelwood and not exactly an outstate win but win none the less for the region.. Have to believe that Rural Missouri has even a worse population growth rate, probably an ever decreasing workforce and the cavalier attitude about Covid are probably the multiple reasons why a growing manufacturer would relocate to a metro region. That and the fact that metro regions is probably where more and more of their business is coming from

A maker of fittings for HVAC and refrigeration systems said it will move from rural Missouri to Hazelwood, as it plans to open a manufacturing plant, training center, showroom and headquarters in the North County city.

I think Trane and American Standard are made regionally so that makes sense.
St. Louis moving in right direction, Hall says, but state and regional leaders must cooperate

Grandpa Governor, everyone!Parson then read through business expansions around the state in recent months, including Amazon's new warehouse near Springfield, pet supplies seller Chewy.com's development south of Kansas City, and meat manufacturer Deli Star Corp.'s relocation to Midtown St. Louis. "And you read nothing about all that in the papers," he said.
The Post-Dispatch and the St. Louis Business Journal wrote up DeliStar's move, which is expected to bring 475 jobs here. The Springfield News-Leader broke the news on the Amazon warehouse. And multiple Kansas City publications covered Chewy's move.
I think his point is probably one that many of us would agree with, that positive development news gets drowned out by pieces about people be afraid to go downtown for a Rolling Stones concert.
^ I definitely won’t disagree with that. Though I do remember the DeliStar news leading the PD website for a little while.
I just think his knock on local papers is more in line with his partisan bullsh*t than actually wanting to push positive news.

Nah, I wouldn't give him that benefit of the doubt. This was absolutely a "fake news media only attacks us" partisan swipe. Gotta paint that picture that his administration is getting this all done in spite of some super secret resistance.
Can't speak to the change(s) with new faces in city development office as reported & posted on other thread but biz journals reporting a change at Greater St. Louis as well.. Those with a lot better insight and understanding can speak to pluses and minuses.

Definitely a plus. She was in over her head as Downtown Inc CEO and got this current job for no real good reason and it appears it was until she found another job, apparently in metals.
Nicklaus: In year one, St. Louis' civic merger is making a difference

Agree that GSTL has done more in a year than the politicians City and State all together! I hope that their first year was just the tip of the iceberg and the years to come are even better for the city of STL!sc4mayor wrote:Nicklaus: In year one, St. Louis' civic merger is making a difference

I'm pretty pleased with Greater St. Louis, Inc. and can't wait to see what the next year brings.

One thing I’d like for them to be more transparent about is this $200,000,000 for profit real estate arm they’re running.
If Greater STL Inc is using its access to elected officials and benefits that come from that to make projects happen for its $200m arm that benefits the 3-4 families that fund it, I think you’ll see other developers in town cry foul

It would be just like St. Louis to pitch a fit when someone - LITERALLY ANYBODY AT ALL ‐ is doing something to better the place, profits or not.

If anything St. Louisans are resigned this kind of self dealing from the city's elite; that is how things have always been done here.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Dec 19, 2021It would be just like St. Louis to pitch a fit when someone - LITERALLY ANYBODY AT ALL ‐ is doing something to better the place, profits or not.

People go to prison for corruption. There is no indication any of it is happening here but GSTL Inc should probably explain the for profit arm a bit more and who is involved.KansasCitian wrote: ↑Dec 19, 2021It would be just like St. Louis to pitch a fit when someone - LITERALLY ANYBODY AT ALL ‐ is doing something to better the place, profits or not.
