Their mission is to restore jobs to the core of the region, which is something I think we all want to see.

But they aren't just pulling in wins for core or even just the suburbs; they're even pulling in wins for the exurbs, too. They just helped land 1,300 jobs for Warren County.

And yet they are indeed pulling in wins for the city and for the county.

If this is what happens when the elite want to help elevate the city and region, I'm for it. Call me crazy, but profit really doesn't bother me if it gets the city moving in a positive direction - and it just feels there's momentum for St. Louis behind Greater STL that I don't think St. Louis has had for... about 70 years.

It would be just like St. Louis to pitch a fit when someone - LITERALLY ANYBODY AT ALL ‐ is doing something to better the place, profits or not.

People go to prison for corruption. There is no indication any of it is happening here but GSTL Inc should probably explain the for profit arm a bit more and who is involved.
I'm not arguing against transparency. I'd like to know myself.

But how much of that $200 million fund has been invested? It really can't be much yet.

Unless part of it went to the stadium.

Wonder if Greater St. Louis Inc has had any headway on some of the possible opportunities for the region.  Especially on the West Coast bio science they referenced last year which seems to be a perfect fit for CORTEX and the regions strong STEM  workforce.

I think it would be interesting to see how the 300 or so jobs get filled in N. County on new food manufacturing facility outlined in Biz Journal article.  Not as impressive as if the region could have landed a new battery plant or in recent announcement of new US Steel mill downriver in Arkansas and or Columbus Ohio scoring big on a Intels Semiconductor chip plant(s) and the 3,000 jobs go with it.   However, between AB building capacity, P&G expansion and the likes of food manufacturing there is some nice steady gains going on if the region can produce the workforce

^ & ^^, thanks.   For some reason though it was going to be a much bigger job number but getting someone to establish a presence is a good thing.

^ Vir didn't provide a headcount...but General Dynamics has 50 employees in Cortex.
Virginia-based General Dynamics Information Technology has opened its 11,000-square-foot office in the @4240 Building on Duncan Avenue, where 50 employees work to develop new software in high-performance computing, cloud, artificial intelligence and machine learning. San Francisco-based Vir Biotechnology will open laboratory and office space in the same building.
.........
Until its [Vir] move into Cortex, the company will be based at St. Louis University, which has one of just 10 vaccine treatment and evaluation units funded by the National Institutes of Health, officials said in a release. Vir officials cited the region’s research universities and medical centers as top reasons for its new office.

11,000 SF for 50 people? Seems excessive.

Some of you younger folks may not be aware that General Dynamics had their HQ in Clayton for many years before moving to the East Coast. For a few years, the nation's top two defense contractors were both based in St. Louis (GD and McDonnell Douglas).

Some great news as St Louis region starts putting together sold workforce development projects;..

Now the big disconnect and discussion item that worth discussing.  Moderators, please move to appropriate thread that would be a better fit.

The big EV/Chip manufacturing winners from west to east which is looking to be massive from what i read in construction newsletters, ENR.  The theme being that you pay to play on state level but man you are getting a huge transfer of Fed Funds that make the recent grants look like peanuts.   The region from the second auto manufacturing center once upon a time to being left behind.

- Arizona - Chips,
- Texas - Data Centers/Chips
- Kansas, soon to be Oklahoma - Data Centers, Battery plants
- Kentucky/Tennessee - Ford/EV/Batteries
- Ohio - Chips/Batteries
- Georgia - EV/batteries
- NC -  Chips/Data Centers/Batteries

So the discussion item.  Region missing out because state inept and or is this just one big trade off, giving away the bank as a whole.  Another way to put it.  MO statehouse might be doing a favor to the region a region in the long run by not giving the state coffers away to a few companies.

MO side of KC is the side with all of the date centers. The most prominent builder said KCMO is good bc Missouri has the right incentives and Evergy/Southwest Power Pool has the cheapest power. So cheap power is what is missing from STL.

First time I’ve seen Greater STL Incs description of the Central Core. I don’t disagree but it seems projects (NGA, Brickline, Tower Grove Ave) dictated geography less so a demographic analysis of density/land use. Meaning… this can change if they identify a project they care about.

IMO I find it a little disappointing that an organization with such forward looking staff and aspirations wouldn’t include any of East St. Louis as an urban core worthy of regional prioritization. I just don’t know how Downtown can be the “center of it all” without at least a river front plan for the east.

I’ve been saying this for years!  The highways need landscaping, the medians need landscaping. God, the parks dept just hacked down the FPP median from Deb to Skinker.  Looked like your worst neighbor Finally cutting their grass.  FPA from Grand to Newstead is…better?  Other metros take perception seriously.  And these visual improvements make a huge impact on outsiders, students, tourists, job candidates, etc.  SLU should be in charge of beautifying the entire area they have development lordship over.

Does it solve root problems?  No. But we need the people that see these and help them return or stay to do exactly that.

^^Based on recent events with Chris in E StL, I don’t think the political leadership in that community has any interest in such a project.

Greater StL Inc launches STL 2030 Progress.
https://stl2030progress.com/

No complaints from me, everything I see, I like! Multiple small new details about private and public projects. Apparently BPV III is only "conceptualized" and not expected to start construction until 2028 according to SLDC.

Ehh, just reads to me like they had to put in some placeholder date so they defaulted to 5 years out. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of dates that are just placeholders, as they want to get as much of the pipeline captured. Just like trying to look for development clues in rendering, I wouldn't read too much into any hard data in this map.

It’s going to take the Cardinals 25 years to to make good on their promise. What a complete joke. And once it’s done and they’re making exorbitant profits we’ll all be expected to thank them dearly for their kind and charitable act of making money with public subsidies.

Big bummer.

My vote is Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge or external hire.
