The Indy Car open-wheel racing series is returning to Gateway International Raceway next year. This is a pretty big deal:

“In July 2020, the race was shortened to 250 miles (200 laps) to accommodate a revised schedule for the COVID-19 pandemic. The event will now feature two identical 200-lap races in the afternoon”.
Ahh I guess I can by that kind of. Looks like it was 248 laps pre covid. Still doesn’t really make sense when the Indy 500 is 500 miles. I feel like usually the number refers to laps or miles and this one is neither.gary kreie wrote: ↑Aug 22, 2021The race last night was 260 laps of about 1.25 miles each, which is 500 Kilometers.
(About 311 miles. It's like driving to Madison Wisconsin from St. Louis in one evening.)
Nicely done! There are (and were) a few higher horsepower locomotives, but that's pretty tip-top. More than most fighter aircraft previous to the modern era too, though converting static thrust to horsies is maybe even more complicated than converting tractive effort. A GE J79 with full afterburner seems to come in at right about seven thousand stallions. (Mind you, the F-4 Phantom had two of them, but still . . . ) Why not just strap a rocket* to your car.shadrach wrote: ↑Aug 28, 2021^In a previous life (advertising) I worked on the Pennzoil/Quaker State account which sponsored an NHRA driver. His car (funny car) reached 7,000 hp. When I told him that his hp is higher than most railroad engines…well, you should have seen his eyes.
