^^^^^^^^^^^^ & ^ Amazon Fresh is about to expand in a big way. They are already planning and scouting locations in the Midwest, Chicago & Minneapolis in particular. But they will move into St. Louis. It's only a matter of time. Pretty much guarantee they will look hard at the Novus Costco development, and I'd bet will be scouting a location somewhere toward the east end of the central corridor.

Of course, they could always just buy a Midwestern chain. It's not like capital is hard to come by for them.

Someone needs to move into the short lived Market Fresh? that was in Cityplace. Having Trader Joe’s and dierbergs right that probably don’t help but it’s a nice building for another supermarket to go into.

When they first bought and converted this Shop N Save I laughed aloud as I passed by both the one at Baptist Church and this at Green Park.  It's literally a 1 minute drive if you hit a green light to see them both.  What exactly was the idea here? But yeah.. perhaps this should go in its own thread.

Interesting...
“Economic development is not won in days and weeks, it’s won in years,” he said. "People forget this region had gotten out of the recruitment business. We didn’t have a team fighting out there for jobs every day.”

He points to the recent announcement of 1,400 high paid positions at Accenture Federal Services as a recent win and said others are in the pipeline.

“We have a few, very close. A major bio tech out of San Francisco. A manufacturing firm looking at our riverfront,” he said, adding his group acts as a concierge to make it easy for businesses to navigate St. Louis.

Really encouraging stuff.

Jason Hall may end up becoming this region's savior.

He's accomplishing things within this region that nobody else has come close to accomplishing in decades, if not longer.

He seems like a good guy who genuinely cares about St. Louis winning together. Glad he is where he is.

Canadian water treatment and fertilizer firm Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc. is planning a major factory just north of the McKinley…

Would be nice to hear more and utter speculation on my part but wonder if it is tied to Wexford/Sandcrawler/CORTEX or even beyond that.

Oh, most excellent catch Dredger. That's a nice bit of news. I'm tired of watching riverfront industries close down and rot. Good to see one reused.

Another tidbit as per Bizjournal article.   Not quite sure if same project on north riverfront in the comments above and or a different project.  Anyone with some possible insight?

Looks like a couple small industrial development projects coming together for north riverfront and the city, as reported by Biz Journals.

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... ility.html

Green Street Development said Tuesday it is pursuing an $18.6 million trucking facility in St. Louis' North Riverfront neighborhood, and a city panel said it would assist via a bond transaction.

STC Warehouse plans to invest $2 million for an expansion of its facilities in St. Louis' Kosciusko neighborhood.

^ Those could probably go in this thread as they're not outstate expansions led by Greater St. Louis.

BJ had a nice interview with Jason Hall.  Not much new info, but it's nice to read more about their efforts.  Apparently they're partly behind the Butler Brothers building as well:

Will we see more business attraction to the region?
We've got 86 potential deals in the pipeline. Projects have to have defined job count and capital investment. There's a broader number of leads at different levels.

As long as they get results I’m sure nobody will care about this but one of the things Jason Hall said earlier when this was forming is that it won’t be bunch of people meeting in dark rooms and planning things and that they will be open and transparent ….well they’re 5 months in and nobody really knows who works for the org, website lists 3 people but it apparently has 28 employees.  No meeting notices or agendas or minutes anywhere and the only reason people know that this group is involved in anything is news reports from after the fact… granted they are only 5 months old but we should be seeing some of that promised transparency, if not it’s concerning

I'm in the: As long as they get results I dont care camp :).

When outcomes match my preferred wishes I dont care how we got there.  When they don't,  I do care how we got there.  *shrugs*

One way or another I think transparency in any governing or semi quasi public agency is utterly importantly.  What I think the distinction here is you want to have transparency of the organization itself, staffing, budget and generally how it operates.  Their is no reason why the public should not be privy on who leads or how many employees or how much they are spending and so on

In same breadth, their is a lot of information related to projects in pipeline or as it related to negotiations with companies who might be interested in moving to the area that simply requires it to be confidential and or limited to elected individuals.   Especially the case for financials that a company my share.

I think most would agree with my conclusion that you need a little bit both.

Oops, my bad. I missed reading that thread all together.  I’m still trying to better understand what deals Alliance STL are involved in and making happen versus the deals Alliance STL promote as being good for the region but didn’t have direct involvement.

STL Biz Journal: St. Louis business group wades further into Medicaid expansion fight: 'We're not going to stop'
St. Louis' private sector business group has tapped legal help to support a lawsuit seeking Medicaid expansion in the state, deepening its involvement in an issue it says is critical to long-term economic growth.

"This shows we're a reenergized, ambitious business sector," said Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis Inc. "We're not going to stop on issues of consequence."

Greater St. Louis, aided by law firms Thompson Coburn LLP and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisnger LLP, on Wednesday filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the high-profile case, now being argued at the Missouri Supreme Court...

Asked if the move could harm the standing of St. Louis business interests in Jefferson City, which is controlled by Republicans, Hall said expansion has bipartisan support, citing some Senate Republicans that supported funding expansion.

"It's clear what the voters approved here, and the data, the math, are pretty clear that this is a job creator," he said.
Quid pro quo:
Hey, Jeff City, don't chase Centene Corporation out of STL to North Carolina!

Anyone heard rumblings as of late in regards to Great St. Louis Inc efforts? Especially on the possibility of a major bio tech out of San Fran?   Would be nice to see CORTEX land a major new tenant and maybe restart the Sandcrawler or another infill project.

Between this and Cleveland’s article about our riverfront, other cities have been admiring St. Louis a bit lately.
