They’ll probably have 70,000 by the time they actually select the 17,000 or so that will get the buy the season tickets (usually 25-30% of seats are left for single game sales) If you bought after around 10:15 on Wednesday you have a slim chance of being one of those 17,000 seats. 30,000 got sold by 10:15 and that means they’ll just need a 57% conversion rate to sell 17,000. Very very likely. Reason I say by 10:15 is they’ll offer them by time stamp

Quick progress by City SC is bright spot for MLS commissioner
https://www.stltoday.com/sports/soccer/ ... 37d70.html
“One of the bright lights this year was all the progress in St. Louis and my discussions with Andy Taylor and Carolyn (Kindle Betz) and they are so optimistic about MLS and so passionate about the city of St. Louis,” Garber said. “Their brand launch was spectacular, (it’s a) terrific logo, they have done an enormous amount of work both on and off the field. Hiring Lutz as their sporting director was bold and I think will give them the positioning of one of those clubs that’s going to have a European way of going about how they are developing players and you’ll probably see that in some of the players they ultimately sign.”
................
“It’s crazy,” Garber said. “Thirty thousand season-ticket deposits in 15 minutes. I don’t know how that computer could handle that many requests in that short a time. They have 50,000 seats reserved in one day, in 24 hours, and now they’re working to convert all those (to sales). I saw a few days ago their latest renditions for the stadium and the whole project, going from the Gateway (Arch) all the way up the big boulevard. It’s going to be fantastic. Carolyn and her group are very involved in different committees and Andy and Carolyn attend board meetings; this is going to be fun. It’s going to be great for St. Louis, a long time coming.”

Sacramento missed the deadline to pay their expansion fee. They also haven’t started their stadium.

The ownership group for Sacramento’s incoming MLS club did not sign and submit its MLS expansion agreement or make a planned payment toward its $200 million expansion fee by a December deadline, according to multiple sources.

Says they think they will work it out but it makes you wonder.

I don’t want to derail the thread with this or anything but I found it interesting and wasn’t sure where else to post it.

I don't imagine that'd have any impact on when the local team starts play or anything like that, would it?

No. I just mentioned it because they are “supposed” to start when we did and were our competition for awhile.

Shouldn’t impact us any.

Can the league play with an odd number of teams?

Of course.  A playoff format takes care of it.  Unlike the Premier League that has a balanced schedule (meaning every team plays every team twice), MLS and other U.S. professional sports have larger leagues making balanced schedules impossible.  Odd number don’t matter as long as each team plays the same numbers of games (in non Covid years). Plus leagues often expand one team at a time (Seattle Kraken or Austin FC as examples).

STLCitySC is teasing a “major” announcement on 3.31.21.  I still believe the team’s start date is going to be bumped back to 2022.

Could be the naming rights to the stadium.

They have no team right now, so the expectation that they’ll just gobble something would put the team in a bad position in the first few years. And yes I know the original plan was 2022 but tbag hasn’t been the plan for a year now and everything related to player scouting, signing etc is on the 2023 timeline

When the team posted the tease last night, I was reading about the looming MLS media deal.  Most of the articles I found point that MLS’s future is dependent on a new media deal which expires at the end of the 2022.  If STL played in 2022, the extra hundreds of thousands of eyeballs would increase MLS’s negotiating leverage.  Also, Sacramento is completely off the table and even if a miracle owner came along,  I can’t envision a timeline where Sacramento would start before 2024 at this point.  To add insult to injury, Sacramento is a smaller TV market which makes other larger cities perhaps more attractive for Sacramento’s expansion slot.   As commissioner, I would rather negotiate with all 29 teams playing in 2022 as opposed to 28 teams playing + STL on the sidelines.
Here’s one of those articles - https://mlsmultiplex.com/2020/06/02/mls ... -survival/

They aren’t signing players, it’s an expansion draft. Such a draft wouldn’t take place until January 2022. They can put together a front office in 10 months.

I was thinking it could be jersey based on being in front of the tunnel, but apparently not.

What even is a founding partner?

Personally unless it’s stadium or jersey I don’t care much about sponsor announcements.

I wonder if the founding partner is equivalent to the primary sponsor who appears on the front of the kit.  If that's the case, perhaps the kit reveal isn't too far off.

It is jersey. Seemed obvious by the player tunnel in the video.

If I had to bet I’d put money on enterprise vs the field but enterprise would just really be paying itself for the rights. I guess if they think the juice is worth the squeeze they’ll do it but wouldn’t it make more sense to get some new money

I'm hoping it's one of AB's global brands.

I’m going health care. SSM, BJC, mercy type thing. I feel like health care does jerseys a lot.

I am pretty sure MLS told them they didn’t want WWT/enterprise (or an affiliate) doing the jersey or stadium.

I’d love to see Centene step up.

I've been informed that City SC was in serious talks with Anheuser Busch, Purina, Square, Imo's, BJC, and Panera about sponsorship opportunities. It'll be interesting to see if one of those is one of the "Founding Partners". To me, it could be Square or World Wide Technology.

And regarding the Stadium naming rights, I've been informed that they are getting very close on that. Square makes the most sense to me since it can be a double meaning (Square Stadium).

“Knows how to play” could be Purina referring to pets.

It’s just hard for me to believe Imos has the cash for jersey sponsorship
