Does this mean they’re trying to get someone to finance this redevelopment plan? Or are they trying to sell the property while giving the buyer an idea of what they could do with it?

They’re brokers only looking to sell.

So what was Butler Brothers? A Department Store? Warehouse Company? It's just a question I have since this is such a big building.

If anyone is still maintaining that site: That postcard is most definitely not a photo, nor an accurate depiction of the original building. It was probably the early-20th Century equivalent of a corporate promotional rendering, mailed out before construction and final design tweaks/value engineering.

Looks like last update was 7/15. I'm pleasantly surprised it's still there every time I look it up.

^ It's definitely not updated regularly, but I visit the site probably once or twice a month for info or research.  Last year sometime I logged on and it was gone, the domain had expired, and then the next day it was back up.  They may not be updating regularly but I think someone is keeping their eye on it.  And thank god, it might be one of the most valuable resources for historical information about large chunks of this city.  Unless there are some other sites out there I'm not aware of.

The guy who started it used to post here occasionally under repowers, but hasn't logged in here since 2008, at least not on that account.

And his Chicago and Milwaukee blogs haven't been updated since 2016, but as he lives in Portland now, I guess that would be difficult...

BuiltSTL is one of the reasons I'm still active with a STL website. And of course UrbanReviewSTL. It's a fading endeavor, but one I loved having experienced.

BuiltSTL is a fantastic website. Sorry to hear he's up in Portland these days. We loose too many good folks to the coasts. :(

With rising sea-levels, global warming and other problems the coasts are having, he will probably return sooner rather than later.

Anything happening here?

I saw a construction guy inside the courtyard one day this week, then today it looked like they were using a drone, maybe to inspect the roof or something?

I heard two separate rumors recently. One being JDS Development of New York City was looking at this building. The other rumor was a firm from Memphis, although the name wasn't mentioned.

Both rumors included a hotel along with apartments and creative office space with first floor retail/restaurant space. We will see what holds out.

Despite the MLS stadium and the progress made in the past few years, it's hard to really believe in Downtown West while this albatros of a building remains empty and decrepit. Hopefully these new buyers can pull it off because this building is the linchpin to the entire neighborhood.

JDS has bought it.

^ That sounds like good news. Hopefully we’ll see a proposal sooner rather than later.
