St. Louis Circuit Attorney race

So I got polled tonight for the circuit attorney race for the city of St. Louis.

Asked about whether police union was a good endorsement, whether St. Louis was doing better or wrong track, perception of police, crime etc. Then questioned on four candidates, and the poll was obviously in favor of Mary Pat Carl. It tested lines for her, then tested lines against a guy named Hammacher (sp?) who also works in the circuit attorney's office and state Rep. Kim Gardner. Harmon is the other candidate and they didn't test lines on him.

Mary Pat Carl, also at the CA office working as the chief homicide prosecutor

She was at the SoHA meeting in March, kissing hands and shaking babies, as was Harmon

Kissing hands? Shaking babies? I thought it was "kissing babies and shaking hands"

That's what makes it a joke. Like "crossing the I's and dotting the T's" or "Does the pope sh*t in the woods?"

I'd say 70% re elected.  it was 45% before Parson moved Medicaid expansion from Nov to August.  you will see a big push in north city to turn out for medicaid expansion and for city's progressive voters

Mary Pat Carl policy wise isnt all too different than Gardner.  She too is for closing the Workhouse and for other programs that Gardner tried to put in place, the argument Carl makes is that she will be the one that can actually get them done because she can manage the office unlike Gardner.
Carl probably will look the other way on minor crimes by police unlike Garnder.  Idk if thats a good thing or a bad thing but if you're for broken windows policing how can you look away from minor crimes by police?

anyway- Nick Phillips of STL Magazine had a VERY LONG read about Gardner, it was fair and heavy on data and facts, worth a read if you are undecided or even decided

^ I think the Post has it right.

"Mark McCloskey deserves to be found guilty in the court of public opinion of being an obnoxious jerk. . . A less likable person would be hard to find. But obnoxiousness isn’t a crime, and Gardner doesn’t appear to have anything even slightly resembling a winning case. She is once again pursuing a no-win situation that only promises to further drain city coffers and add to the city’s already considerable embarrassment"

you're in luck!  i moon light as a resource on elections-  the following are my opinions

Amendment 2:  Medicaid expansion, vote yes like every other sane person. it will keep rural hospitals open, it will help urban hospitals and it will insure over 250,000 Missourians while bringing billions in federal dollars to the state economy.

City Treasurer-  Jeffrey Boyd vs Tishaura Jones:   Boyd runs when the establishment asks him to run for something.   Jones has done a good job as a Treasurer, she isn't everyone's cup of tee but when it comes to the job performance, i see no faults.   Boyd isn't qualified for the job.   with that said i wouldn't total shock to me if he won.

5th Senatorial District-  first you have to understand the Jeff City environment- its a GOP SUPER MAJORITY, they can ignore the Dems if they want and they will ignore a self proclaimed socialist like Megan Green. that will hurt the people in the 5th district.    Senator Nasheed has by far been the most successful dem state senator in a GOP super majority chamber because she knows when to pick her spots and when to make a bad bill less bad but she is term limited so thats why there is a race.   Steve Roberts is running and i can see him being an effective DEM in a GOP super majority but he has other issues.  So that leaves Michelle Sherod, who is a lawyer and a CPA and endorsed by Nasheed.  she is a center left democrat who spent large part of her career working for Senator Claire McCaskill, all the way back when Claire was state auditor,  Sherod was a deputy state auditor in her office.  i already voted due to a work trip out of town on election day and i voted Sherod

I already talked about the CA race and thats really about it- there are some committeeman/woman races and some state house but i think the only competitive is in north city in the 77th district.

How many murders cases are referred by the police and not charged within 90 days?

^Would be good to know. At this point it's blatantly obvious that the CA's office is inept and not concerned with the safety of the citizens.

Lead story on STL Today right now says the office is ready to "triage" 1,200 cases where arrests were made and no charges have been filed.

What the hell does this even mean? Cannot believe Gardner retained the office. The entirety of the current CA's tenure has been marked with excuses. Meanwhile the citizens bear the brunt of her incompetence and neglect.

The backlog is more of issue with police not processing evidence and prioritizing other cases vs non violent felonies. Did you read the story?

The situation looks much worse for the CAO than the SLMPD. Their job is to prosecute cases. SLMPD has made arrests and collected evidence. But I guess it’s hard when CAO is short staffed and inexperienced.

I don't get how often that situation comes up so that then the state AG can prosecute a case. If they really think the CAO is incompetent, under staffed, overwhelmed, and are up for meddling in local affairs, why not do something for real, drop the hammer and merge the 21st and 22nd judicial districts?

Yes, and this:

SLMPD hasn’t been able to solve crimes for decades under bunch of different CAOs, and their detectives remain the constant in the equation.  Even the freaking Chief of SLMPD says the issues on mainly on them

“An updated set of records provided to the Post-Dispatch at the end of July shows there were 279 people who were arrested and released in May alone.
Drug cases typically make up the largest share of cases on the list because they require results from lab tests before they’re presented for charges, police say.
Police Chief John Hayden said he believes the biggest contributor to the rise in pending cases is that the pandemic has changed how police apply for charges.”

“Hayden said he isn’t sure why the increase began before the pandemic but said it might reflect higher standards for evidence required by the Circuit Attorney’s Office.
“They want to make sure all the T’s are crossed and all the I’s are dotted,” Hayden said. “They are are raising the bar, if you will, to make sure every question is answered.”
No wonder crime never got better before if police half assed evidence and charges.

I translate that as.....The CAO is looking for any reason to throw cases out even if enough evidence is collected due to their unwillingness and own incompetence to prosecute non violent crimes. So don’t give them a reason.

Yes because you have the slightest clue of evidence gathering, policing or prosecuting to be able to “translate” what the Chief said...

The CAO didn’t even know what their backlog was until the article published. Shows how well managed it is.

either you're really stupid or willfully ignorant nor can comprehend what you're reading.... i bolded the key parts to help you
"internal police list of people arrested and released before formal charges are filed for mostly nonviolent felony offenses. The police department’s list typically holds a few hundred names, but over the past eight months it has ballooned to more than 1,200 pending cases,

at least six in 10 arrests on the police department’s “released pending application of warrants” report, or PAW list, are for felony crimes, ranging from drug and gun possession, to burglary, auto theft and assault.

The PAW list helps officers track active cases before presenting them to prosecutors"
now stop embarrassing yourself and go back playing liquor license sheriff.
