They mention liquor licenses, which everyone from Gerard Craft to Adam Tilford(mission taco) & Dave Bailey has complained that the Citys process is archaic and too burdensome for small businesses- this group appears to want to make it even more so burdensome. Why?

I imagine that liquor license issues have a certain way to getting resolved if you know the right people.

A little ride around DT just completed. City has stopped the craziness on Wash Ave and controlled the lots east and south of Busch.  Still activity in the area, just not concentrated.  This whole racing cruising thing is a nationwide urban phenomenon.  And why is anyone surprised?  Fast pimped out cars are a status symbol.  Movies, video games, virtual reality and just about every car commercial aired today have created this culture in our youth.  These cars are not going to just evaporate.  Jamestown Mall seems like a good spot with plenty of pavement.  Maybe they could clear the weeds in the cracked asphalt while driving like fools.  Or, how about the unused W1W runway at Lambert?  That could be fenced off.  It's far enough away from the actual airport that gunfire shouldn't be an issue.  Such an area should be only accessible with an admission fee and a signed waiver.  Call it Lawlessville.  A real life video game.  Enter at your own risk.

I never understood the Franklin/Jefferson county types riding their clown motorcycles up here and doing wheelies.

11th and Wash is still completely closed.  Looking down East past 11th, Wash still looks closed off eastbound.  I did notice there is vehicle movement through Tucker and 14th on Wash, so I think they removed those (likely just for the weekdays?).  The various restaurants were putting tables out in the street, but there was almost no one eating out.  Obviously, this could just be COVID.  But I am wondering if those businesses are complaining of lost revenue and that's why they opened it back up.  I was really hoping to see more people out and about on Wash as a pedestrian only street.  So far, it has been looking absolutely dead though.

Also still hearing an above normal (to me) amount of gunfire and people on Nextdoor are saying the racing has just moved over to Olive and 18th.  While running this morning, I noticed more than a few places with single windows boarded up.  I know there are many businesses down here that boarded all back up as a precaution to more looting and vandalism, but I am wondering if these other businesses with just single boarded up windows are a result of windows being shattered from gunfire.  Just a thought.

Let's be realistic, guys: Pedestrian-only shopping streets can work in densely-packed European cities with hordes of free-spending tourists, but it just ain't gonna happen here.

Exactly. Like what I mentioned in another thread but was attacked for making the comment. The businesses are hurting badly from the closure per owners and employees. That’s on top of the Covid and unrest pain.

If pointing out that success or failure of a pedestrian only road is not depended on density and it’s more about the ability to change the car centric mindset is attacking you then yes you were attacked.

You need the critical mass of people for it to be successful. See Times Square, 16th Denver, Lincoln St Miami, etc. Downtown STL does not have that critical mass yet.

multiple people in the recent days have said this groups entire goal is to blow up the current CID and make the property tax for the CID go away and not have it replaced with anything and not have a CID at all.   This is dangerous and stupid. its out of downtown/town property owners that dont want to pay extra to make downtown a better place

What they have been saying about the CID isn't new, but not having a CID does seem like a bad idea. From their website, I took away that they just want a better CID board/company or whatever it's considered.

The Easy Part Of The Economic Recovery Might Be Over: Getting people back to work will likely be harder and harder in the coming months, because a growing share of unemployed people have lost their jobs permanently.

Reign probably stole most of their crowd.

Plus how long were they around? 10, 12 years? Even more? Not a bad run.

Longer.  They were open in '06 when I moved down there.  Prime spot in the Wash Aves heyday.

Walked past The Bismark yesterday afternoon and it looks open. Not necessarily at the time I walked by, but open nonetheless.

Lucas opened in 2004. They were the first of the new wave of bars after the old club scene. Unlikely they will reopen. Great food.
