https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... -hall.html

The food hall under construction at 1122 Washington will be anchored by 4 Hands Brewing, whi will operate a self serve tap wall.

This seems like a pretty cool anchor.

Just spoke with my regular bartender at Sybergs downtown. She said they were given notice that the location is closing July 18th and that the hotel would be closed and demolished. She didn't know the future plans for the site but said Sybergs offered her a job at a different location and said they were considering other downtown/City locations.

You'd have to imagine there's a redevelopment plan if they're going through with a demolition. It's owned by Drury.

A sleek modern hotel tower sure would look nice overlooking Energizer.

Yep, time for Drury to step up for St. Louis City/Downtown or as moorlander noted, a sleek modern hotel tower overlooking Energizer.

Wonder if they still own the property on the Landing?   A nice hotel tower, or hotel/residential or just some good ol residential infill for the Landing.

With the new hotel down the block and the greenway right at their front door. I wouldn't be surprised to see a redevelopment of that property. Makes perfect sense. Even if it's just a regular hotel.

While I haven't complained about it because it is a hotel + solid restaurant downtown, the land use could absolutely be better. And I thought Drury was scaling back their Pear Tree brand, but maybe I misunderstood. I don't think a Drury would make much sense considering there's another one so close.

My, at this point desperate, hope would be that Syberg's finds another location downtown as they are one of the few remaining refional chain full service restaurants with a downtown location.

Idk what's left available at BPV but Syberg's would do amazing there. They'd do great on Washington as well. Maybe they could go in at Jefferson Arms if that ever gets finished.

The old Mike Shannon's would be a cool spot for Sybergs. I could also see them going into the restaurant space at the renovated Edison Hotel

Yes and yes.  Syberg's would be appropriate and would kill it in either location.  Especially with event based crowds.

Closure confirmed within this St. Louis Magazine article:

"The artifacts will need to find another home on July 18, when the restaurant will close. “Our lease has expired and it’s time for us to find our home for the next 36 years,” Syberg says, adding that changes in downtown office traffic following the pandemic contributed to the decision. “We don’t have the office workers, the foot traffic, we once did,” he says. “We’d love to find a place nearby that maybe offers different opportunities. We’re not in any rush, but we would like to remain a presence in the area.” He adds that the closure affects only the downtown location and that employees have been offered positions at the company’s other restaurants."

Mike Shannon's is such a good idea, I don't think it could possibly happen it's such a good idea. They'd have a constant customer base with the hotel and it would get tons of ballpark traffic.

How many times has social media posted rumors from Sybergs staff/regulars that the Market Street location is closing? It's about as bad as the current administration proclaiming the war in Iran is over.

I will say though the place is running on fumes. Business is clearly down and operations feel sad. It wouldn't shock me if they're closing.

I still remember lunchtime in the early-mid 00's when every single table would be full. The place would be humming. The food was better. The service was solid and business was great.

Given their connection to the Blues, wouldn't one of the retail bays there make a lot of sense? And correct me if I'm wrong, but they supposedly have a tenant for one of the spaces already lined up, right?

Sybergs is closing on the 18th, that's no rumor.   City SC has an intention to re-develop everything from the stadium going west to Jefferson and to do that, the states MODESA bill, which built BPV, was extending this past session for Millenium, next phase of BPV and to include soccer complex (also KC Current complex).  MODESA lets the developer keep 85% of sales and income tax generated on site for 30 years to finance the project.

Not sure if Levy and the Blues would want another sub-company in the arena. They already have the Sugarfire/Hi Pointe/Steve's Hot Dogs group plus Rosalitas.

But Sybergs wings at Blues games would be an interesting choice.

Before I knew about the closure I had always hoped the hotel would at least reorient towards the stadium, building out the restaurant space facing 22nd Street and adding a roof deck to the Syberg's. I presume whatever the plans are now will therefore automatically be more stadium-centric.

I will miss Syberg's. I used to live at The 22 building (22nd and Locust) and so I went to Syberg's at least once a week. I do hope they find another nearby location.

Yea this'll be pretty rough if they choose not to open another restaurant downtown.

The old Gringo spot on Washington would be a good one for them if it's available. Or build out the retail space in the new apartment building at 11th and Spruce.

I was happy to see on Instagram DB and Cara Spencer enjoying the World Cup match together. Denis, please tell us you spent the entire 90 sharing your Downtown wisdom with the Mayor? STL would be better off lifting your knowledge.

Syberg's says they are actively looking for another location downtown to open up at, which is a great sign. This could be pretty good for downtown should Syberg's stay + the redevelopment.

Since DB provided the photo, shall we play caption the conversation?

I’ll start.

“Cara, since this is St. Louis, how much of the Rams settlement money will be siphoned off to bogus sub-contracts and imaginary consulting fees?”

based on that experience I'd say it would be a rounding error in a number that the Trump, Lutnick and Wikoff criminal enterprise stole just last month, hack if the entire $255M was stolen it would be less than what Noem and her side piece stole at DHS while her husband was paying large breasted women to look at his large breasts
