Today was a good day in St Louis sports with the BattleHawks winning their first ever home opener Blues beating the Wild and being inviting to the winter classic again. I love it when people doubt St Louis and it’s inability to support its teams.

Jayson Tatum had 41 points and Bradley Beal with 53 today, so a very good day for STL/related sports

ESPN - Seattle NHL team to pay fans' public transit

SEATTLE -- Seattle's expansion NHL franchise is trying to make it easier for fans to get to its games in the traffic-clogged city.  NHL Seattle announced Tuesday that it will fully subsidize public transit costs for fans with season tickets or single-game tickets.

Additionally, the team is entering into a partnership with the Seattle Center Monorail to upgrade the current system connecting downtown Seattle with the Seattle Center, where the team's arena is under construction. The team will invest $7 million for upgrades at the downtown station for the monorail system, which was originally built for the 1962 World's Fair.

The public transit subsidy makes Seattle the third franchise in the U.S. to offer that benefit to fans, according to the team.  <more>

should be played on home ice. Do a 2-3-2 format to reduce travel. By July you may even be able to have some fans at games

Yeah, it was all those Chicagoans what ruined it for us...
In Missouri, people packed bars and restaurants at the Lake of the Ozarks, a vacation spot popular with Chicagoans.

Games won't start until late July or early August at the earliest, and that presumes "optimum conditions"...

Regarding hub cities:  Minneapolis is definitely out as of yesterday...and I'm sure they'll have one Canadian hub city, so likely Dallas, and either Toronto or Vancouver.

Bettman said if Canada doesn’t lift their travel restrictions before they decide that all the Canadian cities are out.

Most people seem to think Vegas is a almost a lock but LA high on the list also because they like the idea of no team being home. With no fans I’m not sure it’s that big a deal though.

It also was said that conference finals and the finals could revert to home cities depending on the covid status at that time, otherwise they will be at one hub.

Los Vegas and LA make a ton of sense with all of the potential luxury hotel rooms available to house multiple teams long term.  Just like the NBA is basically creating a campus for their restart at Disney, Las Vegas could utilize a ton of the empty resorts to create an NHL only campus of sorts.  Same with LA Live.

^^Home ice advantage won't be a problem until the final, and probably not then. They could put the eastern conference playoffs in a western conference city, like Vegas or Dallas, and vice versa, in Toronto.

I would think not having a team in their home city means it's less likely for any individual to want to break quarantine. I would be much more willing to stay isolated in a city I was unfamiliar with than in St. Louis.

^^^^ (Forgive all the arrows, I’ve once again lost the ability to quote or edit posts.) Yep, the Canadian press has all but ruled out their cities unless their restrictions change significantly by then, which of course is possible, but folks up there seem to think it’s a bit of a long shot.

Vegas has been a front runner for weeks now and is probably going to be one of the hubs if I had to guess. I’m honestly surprised local media is just now talking about STL being out of the mix. I stopped seeing STL on the list of potential hub cities over a week and half ago.

The more I think about it, the more infeasible finishing the season sounds. Truly isolating 24 teams along with their respective support staff is an impossibility. People will sneak out to see their families, go to a restaurant, or whatever. It only takes one infection to ruin everything.

What happens when I player tests positive after playing in a game? With the close contact inherent to hockey, the entirety of both teams would need to be quarantined. Even if there is no further infection, that puts a ~14 day delay in the schedule. Good luck coming back from that.

I'm rooting for hockey to return as much as anybody, but I just don't see it working out.

one infection or two or 3 wont ruin anything....its expected that people will get infected.  testing 2-3 time a week will help them stay ahead of it and isolate those who do the positive.

^^ They won’t be able to get out and see their families if they’re not playing in the cities they live in.  I doubt very, very much families will be traveling to these two hubs.  Plus they’ve largely been with their families the last couple months with no hockey to play.

As far as sneaking out...I don’t buy that either.  And it wouldn’t be difficult for the NHL to threaten them with fines and suspensions if they did.  These guys wanna play and none of them want to look like that dumbass from the NBA who came out and touched all the microphones and tape recorders in an interview as a corona joke...and then tested positive.

^Good point. I haven't heard anything about going to full face shields, which do exist, but generally have an open grid at the bottom. I think fogging would be an issue.

August? Why bother?

Are they just not going to have any offseason at all and start the 2020-21 season in November?

Well since the United States so badly ***** up its virus response...it looks like Canada will be getting both NHL hub cities.  Toronto and Edmonton.
