I also like it. There is nothing wrong with adding some light and activity to our urban fabric. Honestly I wish we had more of it.brianadler6545 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020This may get me stoned but I kind of like the display.
Sure I can see where it's a bit tacky.
But come on, from a marketing standpoint, I think it's great. Everyone driving by will know this is a Cardinals related building. Also, our downtown has little in the way of lighting for the mid and high rises. This provides a sense of activity, I guess.
And just think, now they can display a 24-hour webcam of their new trophy, on their new jumbotron, so everyone driving by can see it too!JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020BPV is tacky. Might as well put the screen on one side of the building instead of on the roof.

YES!!!!!shadrach wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020They should play the video of this woman throughout the night.
I can see it now... "Ballpark Village: More Baseball than Baseball".
Think they can get a blimp to circle overhead? With a ticker constantly running stats?
^And some giant speakers to broadcast all over downtown ( whatever it was she was hawking ) in Man-glish...
I like the look of the building more then one hundred, and I’m not the only one, kmox ask people what they thought of one hundred and there was a good amount that doesn’t like that design says it doesn’t fit for st.louis. I guess everyone will have their own taste on architectural design but what I will say is they are leasing apartments so it must not be that bad.

Lol, huh? I'm just making fun of it, you are the one throwing out pejoratives like "tacky". Sounds like you are much more "worked up" than I am...JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020write your alderman if its got you so worked upurbanitas wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020And just think, now they can display a 24-hour webcam of their new trophy, on their new jumbotron, so everyone driving by can see it too!JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020BPV is tacky. the building itself looks nice. the jumbotron looks dated and awkward and tacky. i'm all for lighting up the wedge thingy. i'd even be fine with a modern LCD than covers the entire wedge. but gluing a big-screen t.v. to the top of your building—one that's not even big enough to see from the ground—looks dumb. (and c'mon. i can see how a subset of midwest baseball fans that are willing to call in to kmox to comment on architecture might prefer OCW over One Hundred, but you take a wider swath of opinions and I guarantee that One Hundred blows it away.)Gary5071 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020I like the look of the building more then one hundred, and I’m not the only one, kmox ask people what they thought of one hundred and there was a good amount that doesn’t like that design says it doesn’t fit for st.louis. ^ Yep. Your average suburban or out state Cardinal fan will undoubtedly find OCW to be the “nicer” building and One Hundred too “flashy” for St. Louis. Anyone with any real architectural taste can agree that both buildings are nice but One Hundred IS the show stopper in St. Louis. I actually really like the way OCW came out (jumbotron notwithstanding) but you can find something similar just about everywhere. There are no other One Hundreds anywhere.
Or alternatively:shadrach wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020They should play the video of this woman throughout the night.

The reviews on One Hundred was taken down near BJC and Shake shack. The people said it look like a vase or a ugly sweater, just didn’t fit the area they prefer the older look of the buildings.
People said the same thing about arch too when it was built. They called it a giant croquet hoop, coat hanger, magnet and joked ‘McDonalds is gonna built another right next it and paint them gold.’

well, i very much do not trust kmox to conduct an unbiased study. local media is the city's worst enemy.Gary5071 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020The reviews on One Hundred was taken down near BJC and Shake shack. ...and when it’s finished and one of the most photographed buildings in the Midwest, they’ll proclaim their love for it.Gary5071 wrote:The reviews on One Hundred was taken down near BJC and Shake shack. While new and bold, for St. Louis, the style fountains Art Deco from the past.
People will come around to it.
I, too, really don't think it is that bad. Makes the city alive I suppose. I can see them just putting their advertiser logos up there when Cards are not playing... or even when they are playing. I can see Pepsi, Ford etc... logos. For what it is worth - Times Sqaure is tacky - but still alive and cool.robertn42 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020I also like it. I think you and I are looking at two different downtowns... this picture is from 15 minutes ago.brianadler6545 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020Also, our downtown has little in the way of lighting for the mid and high rises.

This. It looks about as ridiculous as the LED they used to have along the top of the fascia outside of the building currently known as Enterprise Center, when it was called Scottrade Center...urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020the building itself looks nice. the jumbotron looks dated and awkward and tacky. i'm all for lighting up the wedge thingy. i'd even be fine with a modern LCD than covers the entire wedge. but gluing a big-screen t.v. to the top of your building—one that's not even big enough to see from the ground—looks dumb.Gary5071 wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020I like the look of the building more then one hundred, and I’m not the only one, kmox ask people what they thought of one hundred and there was a good amount that doesn’t like that design says it doesn’t fit for st.louis. One of the best things they did when they changed the building's signage to Enterprise Center was to get rid of all of that tacky advertising and that silly LED screen at the top of the building.

It's ridiculous that anyone even considers this debatable.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Apr 07, 2020i can see how a subset of midwest baseball fans that are willing to call in to kmox to comment on architecture might prefer OCW over One Hundred, but you take a wider swath of opinions and I guarantee that One Hundred blows it away.

First, damn! Nice picture! That clearly demonstrates just how much this cluster is adding to our skyline. The impact from the iconic across the river view may not be monumental, but from the southwest that really makes an impression.
Anyway, moving on . . .
From the thread of this conversation I think brianlander6545 means the wiggly stuff, more akin to what you see in East Asia. (And Bladerunner.) More like this:
Now, that's not really an absolutely fair comparison, because neither is there really any city anywhere in all of the West that can compare to the splash and dash of Shanghai except maybe Vegas, and this is carefully curated and sped up considerably in places and . . . so on and so forth. Putting on a splashier face than is likely typical. And also, China really is trying to look like Blade Runner, isn't it? Right down to the fact that you can never really see Shanghai through the smog and rain. (Not once have I been able to see the skyline from the air. Flown through that airport on four or five different occasions and never has it been clear. Maybe the approach is really from an odd angle, but I've flown both north and south from Shanghai and . . . yeah. Nothin. Never. At least not from a plane.)
That said, we really don't have a lot of wiggle compared to any Asian city, or even New York. We could use some Times Square. And BPV1 is head and shoulders above Lumiere Place no matter how you skin it. (And even that horror that wrecked a vibrant district is slowly growing on me. A little.) Now, they should probably have made it a full building sized LED wall and slapped it on a parking podium or something, but I'll live with it. And if you're going to have a blimp fly over have an advertising voice propounding that "A new life awaits you inside the ballpark village! The chance for the Cards to win again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!"

^ Hell yeah. I can see that also advertising real estate next to Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, FL. Just re-dub them "retirement colonies"...
Love it or hate it, that screen has us all comparing BPV to dystopian cyberpunk pop culture. Never thought that'd happen. 100 hasn't done that. Don't really think that's the image DeWitt, Cordish, and the Cardinals really had in mind... Although I'm ready for BPV2 to be announced hopefully soon and now really am hoping it gives off a purplish neon glow when built. With makeshift noodle stores on the ground floor, next to the BBQ.

‘I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Hitters on fire in the bottom of the ninth. Line drives skittering at night through the third basemens’ legs...All these moments will be lost in time...like runners....stranded on third.’
Blade Runner is one of my top favorite movies ever. Enjoyed the references, folks!

With the economic downturn we're facing, I wouldn't count on hearing about the next phase of BPV until probably 2022 or so. That, plus the fact that there has been about a five year gap between each phase of this project so far.gone corporate wrote: ↑Apr 08, 2020^ Hell yeah. You forgot about the decade-long gap between gravel parking lot and the bar mall...DTGstl314 wrote: ↑Apr 08, 2020With the economic downturn we're facing, I wouldn't count on hearing about the next phase of BPV until probably 2022 or so.
