Could a St. Louis Pizza & Wings location be opening up at 720 Olive? According to their website locations, a 7th and Olive location is "coming soon".

I was in Detroit Monday to yesterday and stayed downtown....while its obviously bigger than ours but its no where as lively, i think they have like 5000 people living down there and about 92,000 workers.
How long until this is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places?eee123 wrote: ↑Jul 31, 2018We're going on nearly a year since the forklift fell through this spot on Washington near 15th.
Totally normal, right? I mean, if some drunk plows into your car, your insurance company just leaves your holding your wrecked car, with no replacement, for years afterwards until blame is legally assigned, right?

I would like to formally retract some of my sentiments regarding the new sidewalk monoliths. I still believe they have a pretty minimal use case, BUT having given them a few weeks at this point I appreciate the...activity? that the screens provide. Walking around downtown and seeing them rotate through their screensavers actually adds some brightness throughout the city. Minus having to stare at a giant picture of Lyda every few screens, they add some texture to the streetscape. To me at least they have increased the feeling of activity.
I've only seen one being used one time, a couple in athletic wear scrolling through what appeared to be restaurant options. Could see these potentially being an appreciated amenity in the busier warmer months.
Until they get hacked and play porn on a loop for 6 hours.

There were a lot of people downtown today and not just for the two sporting events. One group of people asked me for directions to restaurants and when I asked why they were here they said Amway. I guess they had a big conference in town or it just happened to all be walking by me at the same time. Anyway it was nice to see busy streets everywhere.
Does anyone know if there is a plan (and budget) to resurface downtown streets and paint with appropriate crosswalk markings and lane markings, once all of the current utility work is completed? It sounds contradictory, but the streets look absolutely awful in comparison to any other downtown I visit. I actually think resurfacing and properly striping streets would enhance the pedestrian experience almost as much as improving the sidewalk experience. I think it will make residents, workers and tourists more app to navigate the grid by foot if they feel that there are appropriate crosswalk paintings and such.

Olive from tucker to broadway needs it badly.metzgda wrote: ↑Mar 06, 2020Does anyone know if there is a plan (and budget) to resurface downtown streets and paint with appropriate crosswalk markings and lane markings, once all of the current utility work is completed? I think it needs to be done, and when doing so they need to revisit the direction of all of the streets and make it easier to navigate. Streets should not be one way, then two way, nor should they change directions. I can only imagine how guests visiting must feel when trying to watch for pedestrians and also make sure they are following proper traffic patterns.

^ Downtown traffic/mobility plan was completed in early 2019 and is slowly being implemented. It’s actually won awards at American Planning Association conference
Downtown from Tucker to River is apparently getting repaved starting in JunedbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Mar 06, 2020^ Downtown traffic/mobility plan was completed in early 2019 and is slowly being implemented. It’s actually won awards at American Planning Association conference
Do you know if any of the bike lanes will be implemented as a part of this?dbInSouthCity wrote:Downtown from Tucker to River is apparently getting repaved starting in JunedbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Mar 06, 2020^ Downtown traffic/mobility plan was completed in early 2019 and is slowly being implemented. While doing sidewalks and roads they should add curb bump outs and update all the ped/walk signs to be the same and have the countdown number. Every time I have visitors in the city, for some odd reason, that’s the first thing they notice because they feel they can’t cross at certain streets without it. Probably makes them feel better if they know how much time is left instead of just a flashing hand or in the case of the Olive and tucker intersection only 1 signal at all.
Cool aerial shot of downtown...the new streetlights are very, very noticeable on Market. Will be cool to see them all over downtown eventually.

When I see stories like this I just think, can’t we get out of our own way for even a second. Somewhere there has to be an exception to get this done. Even if you use the crisis as some kind of round about way to allow it.

Downtown stl is the worst place in the city for small business. The BID and 7th ward alderman couldn’t care less. The only way you have a chance is if Ingrassia is on your side.
If Downtown Stl Inc spent even 1% of what they spend on wasted planning projects on small business retention and aligning their staff and resources, this wouldn’t have happened.

Ridiculous. Bureaucracy should not replace common sense. Embarrassing. Someone in Government should stand up.jshank83 wrote: ↑Apr 02, 2020When I see stories like this I just think, can’t we get out of our own way for even a second. Is he saying that he can't even open without a liquor license, or is this just an indirect way of admitting that his business relies on selling airplane bottles, pints, and beer singles to the homeless men who congregate in that area?
Every time I walked by his old location, I wondered about that place, how it stays in business in a place with zero foot traffic and seemingly never anybody coming or going. And he moved to place with even less foot traffic. Noooobody walks down there other than Stray Rescue dog walkers and vagrants. Otherwise it's like 1 person per hour passing by. People driving wouldn't stop there. They'd stop at QuikTrip or 7-Eleven or something, someplace with a big parking lot, and better food and drink.
His sole business plan must be selling booze to vagrants, unless there's something big that I'm missing here.
Regardless, the city needs to quit jerking him around.

Probably, depending on where they are doing it, right? I'm rusty on my public consumption laws.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Apr 03, 2020Is it illegal for someone without a home to drink?

This guy is ONLY in business to sell alcohol to vagrants and be a detriment to the surrounding neighbors. He has to follow the law and go through the same process any one else does to obtain a liquor license. If neighbors don’t consent he doesn’t get a license. PERIOD. The city doesn’t owe him anything.
