I would guess the commercials would work like they do now for football. Commercials after scores, time outs, or change of possession. Clock will be stopped at those times just like NFL/college.STLEnginerd wrote: ↑Jan 13, 2020Does running clock mean no commercial breaks...? That is my understanding. There wont be any less or more commercials but when a running back gets pushed out of bounds or WR the clock wont stop like it does in the NFL and NCAA until the ball is reset.jshank83 wrote: ↑Jan 13, 2020I would guess the commercials would work like they do now for football. Seems like that would result in a chaotic scramble after every play and endless off-sides calls?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 13, 2020That is my understanding. It is just going to be like every play the player came down in bounds but the clock keeps going even incomplete pass or out of bounds play. Just makes the games short with the clock not stopped as much. Shouldn't be that much different for the players. Play clock starts when ball is spotted.urbanitas wrote: ↑Jan 14, 2020Seems like that would result in a chaotic scramble after every play and endless off-sides calls?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 13, 2020That is my understanding. Fewer commercials stopping play is always a good idea. For all that people complain about pitchers and batters slowing down baseball, I think it's really the stupid commercial clock between innings and during pitching changes. Get rid of that and you shave off a lot of time.
Faster is better. More play, fewer gimicky in-between-acts. Best luck to the XFL. The phrase "Battle Hawks are winning" has a certain ring to it. I hope they can make it work.

And professional ball spotters!jshank83 wrote: ↑Jan 14, 2020It is just going to be like every play the player came down in bounds but the clock keeps going even incomplete pass or out of bounds play. "Speaking of officiating, there will be a dedicated ball spotter to ensure a faster tempo that comes with a 25-second play clock. A running clock, too, except in the final two minutes of each half. All replay reviews will be initiated by an officiating booth, with no coaches challenges."
So, kickoff is in 3 weeks, and ESPN has a page for the CFL, as well as eSports and the WWE, but they still don't have anything for the XFL...?

We get to see the Battlehawks in two away games before they play here in the dome Feb 23rd. Some of my old Rams seat mates are talking about buying tickets for the first game to, hopefully, recreate some of the fun we used to have. So far, ticket sales look a little sparse, but once the season starts, I think sales will pick up considerably. There could be a lot of old Rams fans out there who haven't purchased yet, but may want to once things get rolling. St. Louis is the biggest football desert of the 50 largest metros -- no NFL or College Division I football closer than about 2 hours away (Mizzou). No other top 50 metro is anywhere close to this kind of football dearth.

As of few weeks ago they said 6,000 season tickets sold. They’ll probably average 10,000 per game. Which isn’t sustainable

My daughter and I are definitely going to the game but haven’t purchased tickets yet.
So that’s 13,002

I think the "league" made a huge mistake by placing 7 of the 8 teams in cities that have NFL teams.

Posted today in the official Battlehawks Fan page on Facebook. Seating capacity has been upped to 27,500 for the Home Opener, due to increased demand for tickets.
^ That's more than what the LA Chargers draw in the NFL for their home games., amazing.

And the poor Chargers have 16 road games. Their stadium is full of the opposing teams players. I have a good friend who lives out there and is a Raiders
fan and he went to the game and he said it was hard to find people wearing Charger's garb.

I would guess that the existence of the now-defunct AAF likely played a role in the XFL's team locations.Rooster wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2020I think the "league" made a huge mistake by placing 7 of the 8 teams in cities that have NFL teams.

I just finished watching the LA-Houston game on Fox today. Color me impressed. The broadcast quality and product on the field greatly exceeded my expectations. The fact that these games are being broadcast nationally on ABC, ESPN, and Fox with NFL-quality announcers, camerawork, graphics, etc. is huge for the XFL's prospects. It is obvious that Disney and Fox really want it to succeed.
And other than a few blown plays and play clock miscues, it was surprisingly difficult to distinguish the on-field product and talent from that of the NFL, even though the game was a bit of a blowout (LA sucks - of course).
The lower bowl of the Houston stadium was mostly full, and there was enough crowd and stadium noise that it came close to an NFL game atmosphere in the 3rd quarter when the game was still close. If the quality is consistent with this game going forward, I have no doubt the XFL crowds will grow over the course of the season. Maybe it will end up being a really good thing that the BattleHawks start the first two games on the road...

I agree. I watched a good bit of both games (ESPN app stream and YouTube live stream.) The LA/Houston game was on FOX whose production was far superior to whomever broadcast the earlier game.
Still, I’ve been optimistic but I think there may be a future for this league. I like some of the changes and tempo. Anxious to watch our BattleHawks in action tomorrow.

BTW, BattleHawks punter Marquette King stars as Killmonger in the web series Superhero Beatdown. Gotta love it!
Go BattleHawks! Go Killmonger!
Go BattleHawks! Go Killmonger!
I saw both games today were over 17k. Not bad. One stadium only holds 20k so it was pretty full. So that was good to see.
I watched most of the first game. It was better than I expected.
Not sure I see this league going more than a few years at most but it’s promising.
Also. I like that they are in bigger cities. In a bigger city you need a smaller % of the population to buy in than for example a Birmingham or most of the cities the AAF chose. Easier to find 20k New Yorkers than 20K in a smaller city.
