I’m not overly concerned with the quality of play. No, you won’t see the absolute best football players in the world, but it’s still going to be primarily athletes who were successful in college. So instead of a 4.3 50 yard dash time, we’ll see the guys who ran a 4.50 instead. How many DI football players graduate and don’t get drafted? There’s a deep talent pool that should translate to decent football.

I guess there's always the possibility of another Kurt Warner out there; someone who will make a name for themselves in the XFL.

A reminder for the youngsters:  Kurt Warner went undrafted, was signed and then released by the Packers without ever playing a regular season game, stocked shelves in a Hy-Vee, and then played three seasons for the Iowa Barnstormers in the Arena Football League.  Then he signed with the Rams after the '97 season, played 12 seasons in the NFL, started in the Super Bowl three times, won it once, was Super Bowl MVP, recorded the three highest passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history, and was inducted into the Pro Football HoF...

It is my hope that St. Louis shows up and shows out over this team.

I hope the revelry and pageantry around this team is unsurpassed by others in the XFL league as well as teams in the NFL.

I hope every BattleHawks game is sold out or nearly sold out just to stick it to the NFL.

Kind of a bummer we don't get a home game until week 3. Really looking forward to week 9 TB @ STL. Seems like that is our rivalry to watch early on.

I called to get my season tickets - and if they were truthful, they indicated St Louis and Seattle were the top 2 for ticket sales.  I was also interested in a jersey, and all but small's are out of stock.   I am hoping this is a positive sign, as I too want this team to be very supported.

I think I saw somewhere we are top 1 or 2 in merchandise sales also.

I hope I am wrong but I don't see this being successful long term (the league).
I am not sure I understand the philosophy of putting teams in markets that already have an NFL team.

The team is LA is doomed, heck if it wasn't for opposing fans Chargers and Rams would play in half empty stadiums.

^Then again, LA may have a competitive advantage with pricing. Angelinos have no real love for either the Chargers or the Rams (F Kroenke!), and tickets for NFL games will go through the roof when Inglewood finally opens. I bet a lot of football fans in LA who can't or won't pay for NFL Inglewood tickets would consider buying XFL tickets. Plus, it'd be an LA expansion setting its own roots in the ground, something to be said for organic growth.

Also, KA KAW!!

I'm also skeptical about the XFL's viability, but I'd love to see the league catch on and mess with the NFL's ticket sales in LA even further.

If XFL is successful, and that's a big if, I wonder where the league would expand?

The obvious cities to consider are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, San Francisco, but I could see them looking into cities like Austin, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Memphis, Nashville, Portland, etc.

I don’t think they would go to any other NFL cities except large ones like they already did. Once you get to the smaller ones Nashville/Indy/Pitt then the fan pool dwindles. NYC/LA/HOU you just need a smaller fraction of the population to buy in.

Only reason they picked STL was because of no more NFL. I think San Diego wouldn’t be a bad choice for the same reason.

I could see San Diego and Oakland being two markets they go into.

But I think they could find success in a place like New Orleans, where people are football-starved when they don't have it. XFL will be played during that portion of the calendar when the Saints and LSU Tigers aren't playing.

I thought of an interesting concept for how they might be making money - maybe I'm off-base though... if player A has a great XFL season and is technically still under their 'performance' contract, would the NFL have to buy-out the XFL player's contract?

Could be a really interesting way to make a few big cash sales of player contracts... i.e. the way soccer/futbol works?

Seems very random.  Tampa Bay is too boring to hate.

The LA Wildkitties will play in the same stadium that the Chargers are currently using, so they no doubt will capture some of the excitement.

(yes, that was sarcasm...)

There are 4 teams in our eastern division: NYC / DC (probably more likely to be rivals) and STL / Tampa.  Not sure where it originated on Facebook, but guessing we ware more comparable markets.

I think they are all mobile tickets in your Ticketmaster account. Or at least mine are.

Lots of interesting rules in the XFL. Should be very different from what we're used to:

Does running clock mean no commercial breaks...?  How does that work for TV revenue...?  I like the idea, as i can see the pace of the game being a lot faster, but its a huge change to the way the game is played.  They might have to start recruiting from rugby talent pools.

The weird extra point options seems a little out there.

I think there is a fair amount of risk in changing rules so drastically.  Its a tricky balance trying to change the game to increase excitement, but making it familiar enough for the average viewer.  I suspect there will be a learning curve for coaching staffs, players, and fans.

^Soccer uses a running clock so they don't do commercial breaks during play. A lot of in stadium advertising that is visible on the broadcast plus on screen ads during play would make up for it I assume. Does anybody know how the TV deal is structured. Is XFL paying to get on ABC and Fox or are the networks actually paying to carry the games?
