Re-sharing for those wondering about MoDot’s plan for the interchange.

^Looks very similar to Hanley/S. Brentwood, but with an added set of slip ramps. Didn't realize they were planning to close the Ewing ramp, but . . . why not.

^^That map is titled "Potential Plan for Improvements", hence my question about whether or not that is THE plan they are pursuing, or if there even is a final plan yet.  Due to the grade changes between Clark Ave., I-64, and Scott Ave., that 22nd Street interchange shown would be very expensive, whether they choose to go over or under I-64...

BTW, I have made a new thread for the MLS Stadium and District here.

Hopefully they put in those pedestrian median barriers at the pedestrian island like they have at West Pine and Grand. I feel much safer walking across Grand now that they've installed those.

It is THE plan and in total, about $55 million cost

With Union Station and the MLS stadium projects happening caddy corner to one another, the city has to be looking at a refresh for Aloe Plaza right? The fountain is magnificent but the plaza itself is pretty lifeless. Could become the western Kiener Plaza if we play our cards right.
Let's hope it's anything but the miserable "refresh" of Kiener plaza....a new coat of paint is needed, not an entire new wall.

The city has no plans for Aloe plaza. The Downtown neighborhood association did and it had HOK draw up designs pro bono but once HOK started working with the mls group they stopped engaging the neighborhood association.

I agree that Aloe might benefit from an update. But maybe best to let the stadium plaza take shape and see how fans use it first.

Either way, thrilled the sad little highway onramp island that is currently the technical end of the gateway mall will be replaced.

Nope, that shows 22nd running from Market to Scott.   It's not crossing the railroad tracks to Chouteau.  That's Jefferson connecting to Chouteau.

^ Slightly confusing map.  Seems like it could be simplified and save some real estate.  But alas, I'm not a professional.  Why do we need 64 access every like 5-6 blocks? Seems fairly redundant.  44's exit frequency seems about proper.

Hope they fix up Grand/FPP/64 soon as well.. it would really help things across Midtown as a whole.  Still not sure how I haven't been in an accident using those exits and entrance ramps.  I fear for out of towners.

I must be missing something. What idea are you discussing with that comment?

The more I think about this project, the more I’m actually glad there is not a full village development at first. If the stadium generates demand for bars, businesses, boutique office space, let some of the developers and property owners in actual DT West (Locust, etc...) get some momentum going with historic renovations and infill.

If WWT or Enterprise wants brand new space, sure have at it. But it’s effect on the current DTW neighborhood could be the best thing about this whole project.

I’m pretty sure that was a shot at me lol.  Still doesn’t make much sense, but you can read more here (last page near the bottom):

My point was that the entrance and exit ramp selections all along 64, say, past Vandeventer, make little to no sense.  They're either just more dangerous than normal to interact with, redundant, or both in my opinion.  Poor design.

A lot of the subtext of highway construction back when those were built was really slum clearance, plus there was that whole dream of the "ideal city" with wide-open green spaces, pushed by assorted political extremists on both ends of the spectrum.  Hopefully, the next project will be cleaning up that nasty mess of ramps between Vandeventer and Compton.  There's so much land to be freed up for development  around there.

According to Kindle-Betz the team name and colors will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2020.

^Based on the interior renders of the new stadium and all the fan outfits visible inside and out, I'm pretty sue the main colors of this team are going to  end up being predominantly red.  And more than likely incorporating elements of the St. Louis flag similar to what Shadrach proposed for the Battlehawks over in the XFL thread a while back:

I was told that they have not started the conversations about branding/colors/etc. And then more specifically that because they don't have a team name yet, they would never commit to a color scheme just yet... not that its not fun to guess, but they said they aren't trying to hint anything.

I would bet the process is much like the stadium design process... the team runs through town hall events, gets feedback, does some exploratory processes, comes up with concepts, pitches them to Garber, goes back through the process with input from Garber, and then presents again to Garber, gets approved.

I actually think some of FC Barcelona's jerseys (not the very popular striped one) could mock up really well with the STL flag. Colors are all pretty close with the brighter blue jerseys.

Yeah, I wouldn't take the renderings as any kind of indication. The architects would have asked during the design process, of course, but I'm guessing that the choice of red was completely random or done for the aesthetic value of the render.

...

And those deals have transpired alongside the rocketing expansion fees being asked from—and readily paid by—prospective new owners. League investors in Cincinnati and Nashville agreed to pay $150 million to join up while planned teams in St. Louis and Sacramento will come on at an expansion fee of $200 million. The next round, for MLS team No. 30, is expected to sell for more than $300 million. That’s triple what NYCFC and Orlando paid less than five years ago, and it’s a staggering 650% increase over the $40 million that the Montreal Impact’s owners paid to join the league in 2012.
Those aren’t the sorts of prices a sports banker would arrive at given the financial performance of a typical MLS team. In fact, we estimate that, of the 23 teams that played in 2018, just six turned a profit (and half of those were just barely in the black). Altogether, the league’s teams lost more than $100 million last year. And MLS is losing even more money at the league level—as a single-entity operation, player salaries are paid through the league office—which means team owners are on the hook for a sizable capital call in addition to the red ink in their local markets.
But the near-term bleeding hasn’t slowed the rise of MLS team values, since owners are instead making a growth bet on the league’s—and the sport’s—future....(cont.)

That's one word you could use. Hopefully this doesn't prove to be a house of cards that comes tumbling down.
