Yeah, but if I give them my awesome name idea, the form even says they wont acknowledge my idea as being mine!

Excuse me for a few minutes - need to go trademark a few ideas before sending them over.

^I think that would guarantee them not getting chosen. May be a way to rule out some names you don't care for.

Here is a little video from Jim Gallagher and David Nicklaus of the PD discussing the stadium deal.  Pretty positive piece, they're both fans, think it's good for the city, etc.  Jim Gallagher is such a goober though haha.

If they're trying to have a stadium built by March 2022, don't you think they need to break ground on this thing within the next five or six months?

The timeline is getting shorter.  We're already less than 30 full months for project completion. It sounds like the biggest problem is squeezing in the entire stadium campus into the allotted space.  From what I've heard, this was one of the problems with the first site too.

I wonder if it is possible that they would leave the Union Station area for somewhere else?

I find it unlikely, considering how much they've discussed wanting to help make downtown west a vibrant community, but if it isn't working, it isn't working.

Either way, it feels like this project needs to break ground sooner than later.

^ but MLS wants urban stadiums, so i would think a move too far from downtown/midtown would jeopardize the deal.

It is also very possible that they simply start their first season in a different venue if the stadium is not ready yet.  Not unheard of in professional sports when the reality is that the franchise decides what the best choice is for them and let the stadium get built late if that is what it takes.
The whole notion that they absolutely neeed to have the stadium built for the first season is very very very short sighted mentality in my opinion.  The ownership will pursue and seek a signature stadium in their desired locaion and MLS will back them every step of the way.   The bigger question is if all the financial pieces and agreements between the city and ownership group  can come together in a timely manner.    The construction will happen and happen fast once the finances and agreements come into place.

It's also possible they only get 1/2 or 3/4 of the stadium built and roll with it like that for the first season.   Go with temporary bleachers behind the goals and ensure that the main seating on either side of the field plus suites are first to be completed.

^ I was going to say something similar.  Pretty much what the Cardinals did with Busch Stadium, half of the upper deck had no seats for the first few weeks or so.  Busch, by the way only took about 2 years and 4 months to build and it's nearly twice the size.  I don't think the MLS folks are up against a wall just yet.

Anyone know how soon we might see some updated renderings and site plans?

There was talk the new renderings were coming out at the end of this month, but it's already the 25th.  Maybe they're waiting until after the Cardinals playoff run to announce?

^ I don't know why they'd wait on the Cardinals.  The regular season isn't quite over yet and if they really put a deep run together that could stretch into late October/early November.

There are 5 full days left in the month, you never know.  We could still see something by then.

Audi Field in DC was built in 16 months.  It doesn't say whether that includes environmental remediation and excavation.  But it apparently took them at least 3 years to negotiate an agreement with DC and to assemble the property (the city owns the stadium and leases it to DC United).  Wikipedia - Audi Field

Allianz Field in St. Paul took 20 months.  Wikipedia - Allianz Field

If the field is 40' below grade in the St. Louis stadium, as mentioned during the most recent release of renderings, that would add some time to excavation, and infrastructure and foundation construction, but could save some time on construction overall.  But basically, as long as they start stadium construction by late summer 2020, they should be able to get 'er done.

Is the location of the stadium moving a bit north?  Local news had a story on how two businesses in a building (Olive at 23rd) must leave by the end of this month to (the tenants presume)  make way for the new stadium

That was the rumor; that the stadium would be along 20th St., somewhere between Olive and Market.  But, Olive at 23rd?  That's pretty far west, and north of the Pear Tree Inn parking garage.  I could see a stadium parking lot or garage going there, but not the stadium itself.  Which local infotainment solicitor was it?

That's the mostly vacant one-to-two story retail strip on the south side of Olive, west of 20th, which makes a lot more sense.

I have a bad feeling that this stadium will form a mega block. I was hoping they could keep Pine st.

Maybe they can just shift pine thru there a bit around it.

Maybe a wishful thought, but what is the possibility that team owners are buying out properties on north side of Pine for their own parking structure and keeping the stadium on south side of Pine, between Market & Pine, and therefore Pine intact?  or even the parking structure as part of a larger development concept similar to Busch Stadium on southside of Clark & BPV on the north side of Clark?

Would be a shame on a super block when essentially got one already if they simply build on the south side of market as originally envisioned.  Instead, hat to see downtown end up with two super blocks of using the one that already exists and simply another example of short term mentality ruling the day.

They still might. Like others have said they could be acquiring land for parking or maybe additional development. I’d prefer to see Pine remain but it ends at Jefferson anyway, it’s not like it’s a major thoroughfare at this point. Just feeds right into Wells Fargo and dead ends.

I do think it makes more sense to have the pitch on a north/south axis (I also think it would provide better views of the city that way too, with the majority of fans facing east and west, though that’s more of a personal preference for me, I like the city views) and it might be difficult to squeeze a stadium in that orientation while leaving Pine in place. I really hope we see some updated designs soon, I’m very interested to see what they’ve come up with.
