To be fair, that might be more offensive to the Muslims than the Catholics...

I'm still on these bandwagons. Not too controversial, still lots of history, rolls off the tongue nicely...

STL City SC (or any version of Saint Louis City, SC STL City, etc)
Olympique St. Louis
Spirit of St. Louis
Gateway SC (or St. Louis Gateway, Gateway City, etc)
Arch City SC (or any version)

And then these are just for fun...

Most of the major soccer leagues have teams with some sort of Christian iconography (much more blatant than a sword being held upside down), which are really just a symbols of the city where the team plays (Cologne, Seville, Compostela, Cagliari, Toulouse, and Metz among others). It’s really more about the City and it’s name, logo or history (or all three in the case of Santiago de Compostela) than any sort of actual religious consideration or affiliation.

^^Agreed. A lot of good options/themes to work from.

The US is demographically way more diverse that any of the countries where those teams play and for that reason iconography related to a specific group is much more likely to trigger discontent.
Most of those countries (Spain, France, Italy) are overwhelmingly catholic

Most of those countries are much more secular and irreligious than the United States is.

Yet, many Christian Catholic cultural points are accepted as part of the local culture without being necessarily associated with the religion itself. I am originally from one of those countries, and the example that I typically give people is that of weddings. Relatively few people are actively religious in my home country (at least compared to the US), even though they are nominally catholic. Every single person I know back home gets married in a catholic church, regardless of how religious they are, because that is simply "how things are done". It is more of a cultural than religious experience.

If Olympique not possible, I still like one of these from actual French soccer team names:
1) Club Sportive St. Louis
2) Entente St. Louis
3) Réunis Saint Louis

I like Defiance St Louis also.

I suppose a French variation of that would be St Louis Résistance.

I guess St Louis Le Misérables wouldn’t be appropriate unless they start the season 0-15.

Yes, but there is a large fraction of the population that did not do that (unlike in Spain, France, etc). That is why you get push back against Christian symbols here but not so much in those countries.

I don't think the issue is the sword per se, but rather the way that the sword is held which clearly evokes a cross.

I though the perceived  issue is what the sword represented, which is the murder of other religions in the name of a different religion.

Either way, someone should alert the national media about this Cavs discovery.

LOL, yes...a statue of Muhammad would indeed be much more offensive to Muslims than anyone else.

This thread (much less the entire forum) has devolved to where it feels like Sarte’s ‘No Exit’.

But, thank God I can....

Just to be frank, who the heck is actually offended by it? All I see (apart from Mr. Lee, who likely had his own motives) is people saying someone else will be offended. Is anyone here actually genuinely offended themselves? Directly? The Apotheosis is on every orange city truck I've ever seen and has been for years. It was in the obits as a private way of saying "locally owned" about the funeral parlors for years. It was the way St. Louis said St. Louis, where the arch was for everyone else. (And it was a handy prank for students who wanted a cheap crap sword.) I won't say the thing absolutely positively MUST be on ye olde associatione footballe clubbe's logo, but . . . I reallye reallye don'te see whye notte.

I don't think any city office or department has used it for a decade or more.  What you saw were probably some of those faded 40-year-old dump trucks the city has in its street division fleet.

^Forestry trucks, street department trucks, even garbage trucks. Sure, faded and orange. But there's lots of them.

Saint Louis City is my favorite.  It sounds solid when saying, "We're going to a City game!"

MLS4THELOU has removed all images of the new stadium from their website.  I suspect that means that the new design will be completely different.

The newer design should be released very soon. Could look different but I was told it would be an update to the current design.

It will be interesting to see if it will be the new location, North of Market
