Happy to help. It's been a joy to watch, even if I get a little teary eyed every now and then for what we've lost.stlgasm wrote: ↑Feb 27, 2019A very special thanks to symphonicpoet who graciously helped convert our Freaks at the Airport video that I mentioned in a previous post into a downloadable file, here’s the link to view it!

Great video!!
That airplane window thing was great.
Sidenote: Airport twitter/website was wrong. Volaris is staying at A15.

Southwest gets FAA approval for Hawaii. I, for one, am glad they added the San Jose and Sacramento routes last year.

I believe the windows were on the hallway which led to the C concourse where the St Louis attractions are now seen. It's possible they had another set on B, but I don't think that walkway was long enough.
Also interesting to not that the video was taken when all gates were sequentially numbered and not labeled with the concourse (i.e. B10). I believe that change was made around the time the East Terminal opened.

I was wondering when the change came. I have distinct memories of walking clear to the end of C looking for a gate that was in D and needing to quickly head . . . I don't know, a mile? . . . way the heck the other direction in a hurry. I was just meeting my father, so there was no plane to miss, thankfully. But still, it was nice to get there before he was off the plane and waiting. I got my license in college, and I was clearly driving, so it must have come after 1992 sometime. The gates must still have been numbered sequentially until at least then or the confusion would not have been possible.
Yes, you are correct. The windows were at the beginning of C.gregl wrote: ↑Feb 28, 2019I believe the windows were on the hallway which led to the C concourse where the St Louis attractions are now seen. It's possible they had another set on B, but I don't think that walkway was long enough.

Always thought they were kinda cool...

There is a thread on Reddit I found where someone states they heard a rumor from an Alaska Airlines pilot that STL is being considered for a new hub. The thought is this is a big reason why all the work is being done in C. I have no knowledge of any of this but certainly found it interesting. My read on the work in C was STL trying to attract a European destination, as the customs area is underneath.
Anyone heard anything on this? I typically ignore this kind of hearsay but it is certainly interesting given the construction and available space.
For reference, here is the thread:

The value of what you get on Reddit about airline operations is worth every penny you paid for it.MRNHS wrote: ↑Mar 01, 2019There is a thread on Reddit I found where someone states they heard a rumor from an Alaska Airlines pilot that STL is being considered for a new hub. Thanks for posting. I'm delighted to see continued growth. I was concerned the bad weather/ government shutdown would have an overall negative effect and we'd see a slight decline.jshank83 wrote: ↑Mar 01, 2019Numbers for January are out.

Hopefully, all of the additional flights in the spring and summer months will bring much faster growth and STL tops 16 million this year.
Frontier going double daily from April April 29th til end of bookable schedule (August) on DEN-STL.
Looks like Sun County has moved over to C28. Must have just happened in the past week or so.
C27 had a Contour jet sitting at it as well. Area was actually fairly full of passengers.

WOW blaming the airports for "low factor loads" and "disappointing" service - BS!
Wow air was always full when I flew 4 times last summer from STL to Iceland.
I believe it averaged overall around 75 - 80 % full (in 2018) - anyone have exact number(s)?
and this was service from May until December 2018.
Icelandair in KC Load Factor numbers in 2018 (for 3 months service) was average: 64%
That is lower than I would have expected on smaller planes than what WOW was flying out of STL.

But I don’t believe the August numbers entirely.

One of my friend's parents has worked at Lambert for over 30 years (first TWA and now AA) so I sent him this to see if he had heard any scuttlebutt around Lambert about something like this and he hasen't. However, he did mention something else. I'll second what Greg said about your average pilot not knowing anything about an airlines strategic planning, and add that a airport ramp worker likely wouldn't know much about the airport's strategic planning. But according to him and several other Lambert employees, C and the customs space within it are being readied for a daily BA flight to London. I'm taking this with a grain of salt, as I've seen and heard these rumors, with this airline, before. But there is a lot of work going on in C...so it makes you wonder. Anyone else heard anything similar?MRNHS wrote: ↑Mar 01, 2019There is a thread on Reddit I found where someone states they heard a rumor from an Alaska Airlines pilot that STL is being considered for a new hub. Following up on an earlier post of mine, here's the official announcement of WN flights to Hawaii from STL. Introductory prices are $133 EACH way, with a layover in Oakland.

I just checked out WN's website and I don't show any return flights from HNL to STL or OGG to STL. No flights to/from KOA either.
Looks like all their flights arrive too late into OAK to connect back to STL.

I am guessing once they add SAN they will show up. SAN has late flights here that should work for connections.
I also can't see the Alaska thing happening. As others mentioned pilots usually don't know much. The Mayor wrote: ↑Mar 04, 2019One of my friend's parents has worked at Lambert for over 30 years (first TWA and now AA) so I sent him this to see if he had heard any scuttlebutt around Lambert about something like this and he hasen't. As to C customs. They are doing work on the concourse level to reopen gates C29/30 but as far as I know I haven't seen any bids go out to do work on customs. Maybe they can no bid it but the concourse level work had a bid to do it. They put out an RFQ due December 2018, but I thought that basically was just looking for ideas. Burns&mcdonald, HOK, and WSP bid on it. Maybe they don't have to put out more bids after that and can just pick from them. Not sure how it works. I hope that is all true, but like you I have been burned way too many times before to believe any airline is coming until it is announced.

I checked Apple Vacations today and Frontier will continue the daily Cancun flights from Dec, 2019 until April 2020. Frontier will also resume 3x weekly Punta flights in Dec. 2019 (2 weeks earlier than this year) into April, 2020.http://www.applevacations.com/flight-sc ... -st_louis/

By re-opening C29/30, will the entire far end of C finally be open again? Will they just not use C31-C38?
Somewhere someone posted a picture of a wall built (from the backside). It starts right before C31. So C31 on will be walled off.Perseus767 wrote: ↑Mar 05, 2019By re-opening C29/30, will the entire far end of C finally be open again? Will they just not use C31-C38?

Well that sucks. Hope the rest fully opens up soon. Would love to peek down in the old customs area.
On another note, has anyone ever landed or seen a plane land on runway 6 or 29? I assume they would prefer 30L/R any day over 29, but I still see a few tire marks. GA possibly?

The ElevatorChannel has a video of landing 29. I think certain VIP operations actually like to do that if the can. Operations along 24 are rare enough I can only assume landing 6 is a distinct oddity. That said . . . if the wind was out of 60 degrees, plus or minus some spare change.
As to the tail end of C, I expect all in good time. The glass at the bloody end of the concourse really isn't that special. At this point I expect all you can see that direction is a sea of blue and orange tails. The actions shots would be to the north, and that you can already see. No reason to open up extra space prematurely. (Unless it's the D connection between T1 and 2, of course.) Extra space would just make the place feel more empty and echoey. Let's let the thing grow organically and see where we end up. It's already flexible and lovely.
