Understand it would be costly & required gov't funding but always thought if Maplewood could relocate some of the light industrial/commercial properties that are near Big Bend & on top of/next to Deer creek behind the small strip center. Relocate them to Sunnen Business park keeps the businesses within Maplewood and would be a win win all around. It would allow for extending the current deer creek trail under Big Bend in order to keep the trail on the residential side of Deer Creek as well as giving that same residential neighborhood good direct trail access to Shrewsbury metrolink station/River Des Peres Greenway in one direction and the Deer Creek Park/commercial/stores/ in the other direction without having to cross Big Bend and or Hanley/Lacledes Station Roadmoorlander wrote: ↑Oct 25, 2017Maplewood greenway being proposed:
The council also discussed a potential greenway biking/walking route through Maplewood that would connect the now under construction Great Rivers Greenway near Francis Slay Park on McCausland Avenue with Deer Creek Park.
Routes being considered are along Greenwood Boulevard; or a south route, along Deer Creek. Mayor Barry Greenberg said previously there was a deadline of October 24 for the city to tell Great Rivers its preference, but that’s been extended.
He said the council has questions to be answered by Great Rivers before they make their decision. Also, there will be another public hearing. One question is how the trail will cross Big Bend Boulevard: the bridges at Marshall Avenue and at the end of Greenwood Boulevard are possibilities. They also considered going under Big Bend.

There are multiple committees
There is really no final route yet. They’ll let the design teams pretty far off the leash based on CAG and TAG input on opportunities, threats, ect
The second stage of the competition will require the teams to prepare conceptual designs for the Chouteau Greenway that address the design and experience of the greenway, while also addressing the economic development and equity issues in the region. All four teams chosen include local St. Louis team members and are as follows:
James Corner Field Operations in association with [dtls], WSP, HR & A Advisors, Lord Cultural Resources, Sherwood Design Engineers, MIC, L’Observatorie, ETM Associates
STOSS Landscape Urbanism in association with Amanda Williams, Urban Planning and Design for the American City, Alta Planning + Design, Marlon Blackwell Architects, and David Mason and Associates
TLS Landscape Architecture, OBJECT TERRITORIES, [dhd] derek hoeferlin design in association with Langan, Linda Samuels, Paola Serrano, EDSI, Ramboll, Kristin Fleischmann Brewer, eDesign Dynamics, Silman, Econsult Solutions, Bryan Cave, Preservation Research Office
W Architecture & Landscape Architecture in association with Arup, ABNA Engineering, Gardiner & Theobald, Kiku Obata & Co., Regina Myer
Just looked it up on Google Earth. You can see preliminary work in the Google Earth Imagery.southcitygent wrote: ↑Mar 10, 2018Although it's not officially open, I'm impressed with the work they have done in Cliff Cave park. Great Rivers does quality job.
This is in terms of a trail network an important link due to existing trails exist at or near this location on both sides of the river and the ability to improve a pedestrian and cycling network in this area since there is limited connectivity on either side of the Meremec.Trololzilla wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2018Good to see in yesterday's South County Times that Kirkwood, Sunset Hills, and Fenton are all really trying to work with GRG and MODOT to get the pedestrian/greenway aspect of the new I-44 bridge built.
