I'm on the River de Peres Trail almost every sunday. Can't wait until the extension is finished.

Makes you wonder why they didn't keep the trail on the high ground, which is still high and dry.
Another winner is Great Rivers Greenway.
The agency, which plans bike trails in the region, owns eight of the 20 acres where the Komans wanted to build their casino. Earlier this year, they reached a deal with the developers: If the Komans won a casino license, they would buy the land from Great Rivers and fund improvements to the bike trail along the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. If the license went elsewhere, the Komans would sell Great Rivers the 12 acres they own, at a below-market rate, and Great Rivers would fund the improvements itself.
Now that the decision is in, the agency can buy the land, with the deal likely to close in early 2011, said executive director Susan Trautman.
"We have a commitment to purchase it. We have an agreed-upon price," she said. "We're happy about it. The idea was to reach the best possible outcome for the public, and I think there are a lot of people who will be pleased with this."

He interviewed John Nations, who I think handled the situation great. Most surprisingly, check out the positive comments being left on Fox about expanding the bike trail with federal dollars. I'm still in disbelief!

My biggest complaint is that he was acting like a (fill in the blank) and was projecting an agenda.arch_genesis wrote:^ I wish he'd go after bigger issues by pressing mayors of small municipalities why they're needed. Or TIF wars within the region. He does a good job at making people look bad but the issues he takes up are small potatoes. He should work his way through however many small munis he needs to over the course of a month or two. That would be nice to see.
At the end of the day I think the region will benefit with John Nations where he is at. Unless I'm mistaken on the relationship, having Metro's head speak on behalf of the trail is a step forward.gone corporate wrote:Elliot Davis really screwed the pooch on this one. John Nations shone brightly.
Full disclosure: I ride this trail and really enjoy it.
