I figured he wouldn't sell it.

Someone on NextDoor stated they were on their way to a lunch with three architects to discuss building a Downtown Medical Center on the block that the NLEC occupies.

So place was something that made my wife not want to move downtown. So what is the area like now that this place been shut down for a month?

My question as well - hope someone who lives downtown has an answer.
I am going on a tour of the Biddle house in a couple weeks so I'm interested to see how that looks.

Interesting. I go up that way during the day on the way to Sen and restaurants along Washington, as well as the Central Library. I've never seen more drug activity than in the past few weeks. At least a dozen folks were sitting all along Christ Church Cathedral - some trading drugs and another injecting something. A police car was across 13th St. along the library, its occupant just watching. A big, raucous gathering was at Lucas Park. Looked like a fight. Maybe nighttime is better?STLhistoryBuff wrote: ↑May 05, 2017I live right next to the NLEC building. It's night and day from what it used to be. I can actually walk down Locust Street now.

he also owns Washington Ave loft building that he said he was nailing down a lease for the grocery store last summer.moorlander wrote: ↑May 05, 2017Sonny is the dr that owns the downtown urgent care.

I was speaking mainly of the block that Larry Rice occupied. I couldn't go near Locust without getting hassled. The Cathedral area for sure needs some work, but I guess I'm used to people hanging there. I haven't seen a huge increase, but I'm also not walking by that area as much as I used to when I lived at 13th and Washington.bprop wrote:Interesting. It's like being on a different planet. I used to get panhandled the same amount in 3 days as an entire month. The amount of homeless, drug users, and drug dealers has decreased dramatically. Yea there are 6-10 known individuals hanging out on 13th by Christ Church but nothing like before.True_dope wrote:So place was something that made my wife not want to move downtown. Rice is such phony and a homeless pimp.

I'm sure it must be timing or luck or something. I went that way again Friday and it looked like skid row. Way more than the few that used to hang out by the cathedral.STLhistoryBuff wrote: ↑May 06, 2017

I'm referring more to Lucas park and 13th/Locust. I don't make it to 15th and Locust - glad it's looking better. But by the cathedral has been consistently worse.bigmclargehuge wrote: ↑May 07, 2017Nope not skid row. Still a few lingering...yes. Everyone else is right . Um no dude. That area, the whole area surrounding Larry, inlcuding Lucas Park, the libary, cathederal, etc was full of homeless, like 50-75 all day long. Now there are only a few around there. No matter how hard you try theres just no denying that him closing has made a drastic improvement
Glad the clown car is here, but I've been walking that way for about 18 years. Just saying what I see in the 13th/Locust area. On Friday, there were people lined up between the buttresses of the Cathedral, in the landscaping, doing and trading drugs. More were across at the Jefferson Arms lined up on blankets.irock7777 wrote: ↑May 07, 2017

Maybe they were displaced, even from a much worse area - I don't doubt that - but I've never seen the magnitude of that behavior in that particular area.
Went down Friday. Noticed maybe a handful of panhandlers and homeless, didn't notice any pedalers, and the streets had far less trash. It was unrecognizable from when I lived down there a few years ago, you could easily walk through without being harassed. Great improvement

You sound like a Rice supporter. There is no comparison before and after the NLEC closure even around Christ Church. We still get the annoying handouts from church organizations which may swell the population sometimes in this area. So maybe you walked through just after one of them.bprop wrote:Glad the clown car is here, but I've been walking that way for about 18 years. Just saying what I see in the 13th/Locust area. No, I'm just making an observation. I already said it could have been timing and/or 'luck'.
Great news. Thanks for sharing.bigmclargehuge wrote: ↑May 07, 2017Nope not skid row. Still a few lingering...yes. Everyone else is right . I'll throw my own $0.02 into this... driving by multiple times over the past week and it absolutely is night and day to me.

Yeah, I've only driven through the area recently, but it appears to have improved considerably.chaifetz10 wrote: ↑May 08, 2017I'll throw my own $0.02 into this... driving by multiple times over the past week and it absolutely is night and day to me.

I hope this positive feedback is making it's way back to the mayors office.
