Wait im confused. We are threatening new lawsuits against Larry?? I though he lost all of his appeals and would have to reapply for occupancy which would come down to us who live near him approving. . .well disapproving his application.

My sense is they finally are determined... the synthetic marijuana spell centered outside NLEC this week probably pushed things over the edge. But there appears to be a lot of legal process ahead pushing closure to the next administration.
They have to enforce. This is a decade to late anyway. It is also criminal that this is allowed to happened across the street from a school. If this was going on in the suburbs there would be outrage, the NLEC would be shut down immediately, and the riff-raff would be removed from the area.
Imagine one of your children attending school next to this. Unreal.

Larry Rice has lost his appeal; could this really be the end?

I think he has some final appeal pending in court but unless the court intervenes, he will have to shut down.framer wrote: ↑Jan 13, 2017Larry Rice has lost his appeal; could this really be the end?

The end is near. Unfortunately it won't reverse 40 years of Larry abusing the homeless.

IF his appeal is denied, I fully expect for him to simply open up somewhere else and the cycle repeating. Does anyone know if the 7-11 nearby has closed or is still being targeted for the alcohol sales?
Circuit Court judge denies New Life Evangelistic Center permission to stay open
A circuit court judge refused on Thursday to give New Life Evangelistic Center, a downtown homeless shelter, permission to stay open beyond Saturday.
The shelter run by Independent mayoral candidate Larry Rice has been operating without an occupancy permit since May 2015. New Life provides shelter to at least 200 people per night. The permit had allowed Rice to provide shelter for up to 35 people. The city revoked the permit due to chronic over-occupancy and because of a series of building codes violations, including missing plumbing and improper exhaust for the kitchen.

good. btw he now seems to be sending out his "troops" to beg on various street corners in a coordinated manner. they appear to be taking shifts at the skinker-FPP intersection near Wash U, for example.
^I don't think it's anything new. Those folks have been working that corner for years. There are also regulars at down at Lindell and Forsyth. Same folks every day. I have no idea if they come from Larry's place.

there was a recent Humans of St. Louis interview with one of the guys that begs at that intersection. he needed money for medical treatment so HoSTL gave his contact info, including NLEC as his address.
i recently drove by NLEC for the first time in a long time. it was a hot mess out front. can't be closed down fast enough. also, looks like he's gearing up to send a tidal wave of homeless people across the city in retaliation for the shutdown. such an upstanding, Christ-like guy. can't wait for him to lose the mayoral election and GTFO.
^ if folks are no longer staying there, how can Rice "send them" anywhere? Is there any situation resulting from the fallout of the shelter closure that you wouldn't attribute to Rice's active meddling?

^ did you read the article? folks are still staying there until Sunday. and, yeah, i wouldn't attribute an earthquake or a tornado to Rice. it's certainly not a stretch, however, to attribute a sudden, coordinated wave of homeless people selectively camping out in high-profile areas to a guy with a vendetta against the city and a means of coordinating such a thing.
Exactly. He's executed this game plan in the past and expect it in the near future.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Mar 31, 2017^ did you read the article? folks are still staying there until Sunday. and, yeah, i wouldn't attribute an earthquake or a tornado to Rice. it's certainly not a stretch, however, to attribute a sudden, coordinated wave of homeless people selectively camping out in high-profile areas to a guy with a vendetta against the city and a means of coordinating such a thing.
His next move will to be to purchase a highly visible piece of land and start an encampment on it. I'm taking bets and giving 3-1 odds to the field.

I was watching the professional panhandlers at kingshighway and 40/64 a few weeks ago. A beat up car rolled up, rolled down the window, hollered at one of the panhandlers and he proceeded to run over to the car and pulled out a huge roll of cash and handed it to the driver.
Over the last year there has been a different panhandler at the Murdoch Ave exit nearly every week. They leave their trash and it ticks me off. Same thing at the Brentwood exit @40/64. Grrrr

Suddenly all of the rotating panhandlers are gone at the WashU corner of Skinker at Forest Park. I briefly chatted with a few of those panhandling some time ago and they told me numerous person there were not homeless and totally down and out but looking for bus fare to get our of town or just a few quick bucks. Hardcore panhandlers disapprove of those just panhandling as a brief stint. Also the term street term for panhandling is called flying.
Folks have been sleeping on Metrolink a lot more than usual this week. There were four in one car when it arrived at Shrewsbury yesterday.

I'm sure this question has been answered before, but what will become of the building that formerly housed the NLEC? Larry owns it I assume? Will he be forced to sell or will he let it rot or sit empty as a middle finger back to the City. Anyone know what will become of the building itself?
