Glad to see this bridge being replaced. Work is slated to begin in 2025..
The 93-year-old bridge has a tragic past. In July of 2018 a 22-year-old driver lost control while turning in the intersection and struck the concrete decorative railing. A one-ton piece of concrete fell off, landing on a car driving below on Forest Park Parkway. Jan Torissi-Mokway, wife of former St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa, was killed in the accident.
The city is asking the public to provide input to help engineers design the new structure.
“So by bringing in community voices, we’re able to make decisions that are based on the needs of the people who use it the most,” said Dunne.
Here’s a link to an online survey. The public has until October 14 to weigh in on the project. The bridge is expected to cost $25 million and construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.

^I'm nervous, but there've been enough good street diets and road calming projects that maybe I can be hopeful that this will be done right and it will look attractive. We need more wins.

I hope they hire a Dutch outfit to design it.

is this the same bridge where some structure of the bridge fell on a driving motorist who lost her life? Such an awful accident.

^Yeah, that'd be great. I'm not sure why grade separation has gotten such a bad name. It works. If done well it can make life easier for pedestrians, motorists, and bicyclists alike. That intersection clearly had a traffic circle at one time and needs one again. I wish someone would show that to the state for the Grand and Forest Park intersection. It's so much better than anything I've seen proposed for Grand and FP.

I know the replacement is very badly needed: but damn, this is going to suck and mess with a lot of routes.

Worst case scenario: could we be looking at a months long shutdown on Metrolink?

I don't recall many shutdowns when the DeBaliviere bridge was replaced.

I think there is, if you look at the labelled rendering.

There is one. I encourage you to read the article.

Looks like more car-first/everyone-else-is-an-afterthought infrastructure. It's too bad that reaching the park on foot or even biking in the area can't be a better experience.

The big round about is a way better concept and because it is spread over a wider area, you could probably build a lot of it without completely disrupting the current traffic flow

Disappointing. This is a perfect case for a traffic circle. Is there any statistical argument against one? I've rather gotten the impression they're better for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. (Not to mention maintenance and the environment.) Am I missing something? I know US drivers are resistant, but . . . we can grow up if that's really the only argument here.

Yeah I would've been harsher than the author was about how the streets department didn't even bother to extend the protected bikelanes down Union into the park. Like they really do not think about transportation comprehensively at all.

I believe (to my naive mind) that the frequent forest park events would be a nightmare (for a roundabout) and cause traffic backup. Are you familiar with round about at I-64 and Hampton going out of zoo?
