Reading the budget
Yes I read it in its entirety
https://budget.house.gov/imo/media/doc/one_big_beautiful_bill_act_-_full_bill_text.pdf
this tidbit is interesting

Missouri has a had a fee on EVs to make up for gas taxes for a long time. Something to point out to whiners about raising gas taxes when they whatabout EVs. EVs $135, hybrids $67.5. 135/0.275 gas tax = 491 gal or, assuming 25 mpg, 12,000 miles worth of driving.

https://dor.mo.gov/motor-vehicle/fuel-decals.html

$250/0.184 federal gas tax = 1,360 gal * 25 =34,000 miles. A bit much! Meanwhile the federal gas tax hasn't gone up since 1993. It'd be over 40 cents / gal if it kept up with the CPI, let alone road maintenance and construction costs.

lol we forgot that Trump is a terrible leader that doesn’t know how to govern anything. This Elon spat is definitively the most embarrassing thing a US president has ever done. It’s like Busch speaking x Clinton cheating x Trumps entire first term.

If you fell for it, talk to someone about how to be less gullible.

And now Trump’s talking deportation.  Musk overstayed a visa before he got his citizenship, which could cause him to be deported.

This is a fake feud to get Dems to stop firebombing Tesla dealerships and maybe even convince them to consider buying a Tesla again.

To the extent it is real, good. These two narcissists can eat each other.

I don't think it is a fake spat.  I mean if it is, Elon went pretty far with the J. Epstein claim.  I am amused by it, and reading the MAGA's cries for it to end because "they both want what is good for America".

I don't think it's a fake spat but it's definitely acting as cover for the whole Palantir thing.

In any case, I just hope they both have fun and neither of them wins.

Not a Trump policy, but Josh Hawley signed onto a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $15.

How unRepublican of him.

Only overdue by a decade or so.  Hope it passes, doubt it will.

Thousands of people downtown today (I dare say 10k+), Kehoe activating the National Guard, the usual suspects trying to rev up violence and rioting.....and a 100% peaceful protest. SLMPD operated to perfection, no instigating from either side, seemed like both the PD and protesters understood they are not each others enemy, and a totally peaceful uneventful protest in what's described as a "warzone".

I was told that it was gonna look like 2020 today. Huh.

Hopefully Metro got a bunch of ridership and hopefully downtown businesses got a lot of foot traffic today.

Crowd estimate is "at least 1000". Just for the record. I'm not being snarky or dismissive. Just for the record.

If only people with cars and guns were so peaceful. Funny how people with signs and bull horns are so suspect met with finger waging "better be peaceful" when people with guns and cars wreak havoc everyday.

I guess Kehoe calling up the National Guard was just an attendance suppression tactic.

The funniest part is that they actively push and enact policies that make these actual issues worse.

The victims and their families of last night’s shootings downtown agree with you!

I think you've all seen the famous photo looking up Market towards the Arch, showing the No Kings rally marching in the middle of the street. (I'm not at home now, so I can't post the pic)

I know there were thousands of people there, but something about that photo just feels fake to me. Like it was manipulated to make the crowd look larger than it was. I'm no photo expert, and maybe it's just the lens they used or something, but can anyone confirm that it's authentic? I know there's lots of debate about it online, and I'd just like to know.

Yeah, but the Market pic seems to show way more people than the overhead Kiener Plaza pic. Like I say, it maysimply be a matter of perspective or lens setting etc.

I think it's an awesome shot, and makes St. Louis look great. I'm just hesitant to brag about it and share it on social media before I know it's authentic. It's so easy to manipulate images these days.

So true, I was reading the debates on twitter over the crowd size of the Army parade in DC, a pic was posted that showed a very large crowd with a city and domed building behind it.  People said no, this is Philly and some Obama crowd.  I chimed in and said no, this is St. Louis, that is taken over the arch grounds, and the dome is the Old Courthouse.  The Arch was no in the image, but it was so clearly us.

I guess it is nice that they tried to pass it off as DC, and also claimed it was Philly.   These are all very different, at least to most urbanists.

The crowd density was very tight in Kiener Plaza, bumping elbows. The crowd spread out a bit in the street.
