Shocking, disappointing how stuck we are. More, more, more roads. Can't raise the Federal gas tax.

I don't think the house is going to even take up the $1.2 trillion deal unless Democratic Senator send over the Dems only $3.5 trillion deal as well. Could be mistaken but believe that is the line drawn by Pelosi.quincunx wrote: ↑Jul 28, 2021I hope the house doesn't roll over in conference.
The latest and greatest i found on the bipartisan deal. Of course, will see how the drama plays
I think the one missed opportunity is that the fund for urban renewal/highway removal was downsized from $ 10 billion to $1 billion if not mistaken. Probably any number of great projects out there.

POINTS
- “I think you’ll see text today,” said Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin. “By this evening hopefully we can start the process, hopefully start our amendment process by tomorrow. We should finish up by Thursday.”
- The bill is expected to allocate about $110 billion for roads and bridges, $39 billion for public transit, $66 billion for rail and $11 billion towards road safety.
- House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she is not going to hold a vote on the bill until the much larger $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package passes.

Bipartisan deal passes Senate. I believe their next item is the Dem only/expanded $3.5 trillion deal in Senate. Then hurry up and wait from here as I believe the House is not in session until Mid September to take up any deal. It will be interesting on how everything plays out in House. From what I understand is Dems need all but 3 members to vote yes to pass Bipartisan deal
In addition, not sure what the final dollars amounts on Bipartisan deal as I believe it is $550 billion of new spending on existing appropriations which I believe hasn't been finalized in Senate yet. Believe House sent over/approved a $750 billion appropriation which would take full funding to $1.3 trillion (but doubt if Senate signs off on on $750 billion). Someone can please clarify anything that is not correct.

WASHINGTON—The Senate passed a roughly $1 trillion infrastructure package with broad bipartisan support Tuesday, advancing a central piece of President Biden’s economic agenda that would amount to one of the most substantial federal investments in roads, bridges and rail in decades.
The vote was 69 to 30, with 19 Republicans joining all 50 members of the Democratic caucus to pass the bill.
The product of weeks of painstaking negotiations between a bipartisan group of 10 senators and the White House, the legislation both reauthorizes spending on existing federal public-works programs and pours an additional $550 billion into water projects, the electrical grid and safety efforts, among many other projects.
While lawmakers and presidents of both parties have said for years that they wanted to come together on a major infrastructure package, an agreement had consistently eluded them.
With passage in the Senate on Tuesday, Mr. Biden bucked that trend, though the bill still faces a potentially rocky path in the House.

You’re about to see the private transportation engineering and building industry go into panic mode as they realize they don’t have the labor force- but thats good for the employees, pay is about to sky rocket, although that’s bad news for MoDOT and other governments like stl city that won’t be able to match private sectors pay that will be 50-80% higher now. Modot has already lost 650 of about 5000 employees in 2021 and it’s about to lose more

The city of St. Louis alone has some $428 million in infrastructure needs, a government committee has said. Officials previously said they hope to tackle a long list of projects, in part, with money from the federal infrastructure bill.

^ Thanks for posting. Long Island Railroad is also wrapping up a major capacity upgrade (triple tracking) and grade separation project on Long Island itself. Throw Amtrak's new Moynihan Trail Hall next to Penn Station and you had a significant rail investment in the last decade for commuters coming & going into Manhattan from Long Island as well as some breathing room for Amtrak.

Its amazing to me the scale and scope of the Grand Central Station project above and then see the fact that here in the Bay Area they are struggling to keep Caltrains electrification on track/schedule let alone the fact that they still haven't figure out a way to get the tracks the last couple miles from San Fran's 4th street station into a billion dollar transbay station. At least BART has a couple lesser known projects that will expand transbay tunnel capacity by 40% without the need of a new tunnel and construction will finally commence on extending BART East Bay line into downtown San Jose/Google's new planned campus/Santa Clara
