It's a good thing Ansira just knocked down a building for parking a year or two before the pandemic.
It boggles the mind that the city is convinced a new parking garage is needed between 10th and 11th north of Washington. These are all empty or mostly empty lots between Convention, Carr, Tucker and 14th (except for a couple just west of 14th).
It's ALL PARKING HERE. KDNL still has "news crew" parking spots. That new lot at MLK and 14th created by demolishing buildings is still empty. The one by Wave Taco promises the cheapest rates downtown, and there's ONE CAR there. I'm sure that recent demolition across from Shell will add a few more spots. As I said when they demolished the buildings at 14th and MLK, I don't even comprehend the financials of building a new lot where there's obviously no demand.

^^^This is exactly my thought as well. Not to mention if more parking was needed there's a ton of empty lots north of Cole between 7th St and the highway that could be paved and striped or have a garage built on them eventually. They're essentially a block away from the dome/convention center and right off the highway, much more convenient to tourists/visitors without having to route the vehicle traffic through downtown's street grid. Another alternative would be rebuilding the garage behind the Square headquarters into a bigger facility and keep the parking more concentrated instead having a garage every other block.

Maybe those in power see a garage as a money maker for the city (and for the builder/owner of the garage (wink wink))? Seems as if flat existing pavement parking can be set up to require payment to park there...but idk
Doesn’t Starlake own a bunch of those parking lots in the area?
KMOV plans to leave downtown. That’s pretty disappointing

Remember, everything is going great downtown. This is just the beginning.
What hurts more is Bank of America discreet move as reported by BizJournals.
https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... ntown.html
The bank, which says half of its 1,400 local employees remain downtown, said the move was part of company-wide effort to consolidate certain functions "to make everything as efficient as possible for resources and spaces."

This has been coming. BoA also dumped a bunch of other space in Clayton and consolidated into Centene Plaza. The unit they moved from St. Louis to Clayton (Private Bank) deals with high wealth folks…many of whom live in Clayton or nearby. Not much of a shock there, tbh.dredger wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2022What hurts more is Bank of America discreet move as reported by BizJournals.

Yes, everyone believes everything is going great. Surely there's no nuance to be had...downtown2007 wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2022Remember, everything is going great downtown. This is just the beginning.

My former firm that I left on January opened a 50 person office in downtown west with plans to grow to 100-150. Didn’t make the news but at the time it opened we had a nice open house for people to show it off.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2022No, no, no. Our main office is/was in Maryville center, the one building were at lost 300-400 workers from various firms moving to work from home, also didn’t make the news.

We moved from Westport to DT a few years ago. Only 25 employees in our location here though. It helps recruit out of town talent to see a swanky downtown office on 16th floor with sweeping arch and downtown views vs. suburbs. It helps us recruit on both sides of the river too.

Just the beginning is true. Beginning of a dozen apartment buildings and hotels bringing 1000s of new residents and hotel workersRockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2022No, no, no. The developer chose the downtown site because of its “strong activity and new rental residential acceptance in the submarket,”

Remember US Bank just sold the tower. Is that the start of their exit? Hope not but certainly concerning.

So what you’re saying is someone paid sh*t load of money to US Bank for the tower because they thought it was a good investment?downtown2007 wrote: ↑Mar 09, 2022Remember US Bank just sold the tower. Is that the start of their exit? Hope not but certainly concerning.
US Bank proceeded to sign a long term lease for its space.
US bank is also spending a lot of money on renovations in the tower for their entire HR group
They also have a large presence at 1005 Convention Plaza

KMOV is just moving closer to their target audience.

Move makes no sense. You have to remember that 800,000 people live on the other side of the river in their viewing market. From the younger people that I know that work there, they’re pissed. Some are considering a move to ksdk since it’s had 4-5 openings as of late
