^ demolition permit applied for so soon after relatively low-damage fire isn't at all suspicious.

The building is not super structurally sound. Roof collapsed in many places along with some collapsed brick in rear and east side.

If this week doesn’t bring people Downtown we’re in trouble! What a week! I’m a Cubs fan but this week should bring a lot of people to the STL Downtown!

I think it will bring the same amount of people as all the other sold out cardinals games over the last 2 decades

The difference being that Cubs and Yankees series bring people Downtown for longer - more out-of-towners filling hotel rooms, bars and restaurants - than sold-out series against just about any other teams (including KC and CWS).

A late-summer Saturday night game against the Padres or Guardians will sell out, but won't bring nearly as many people to town.

The Cubs and Yankees series will be actual sellouts, with butts in every seat. That's not real common these days.

Yes we don’t have the most lively downtown yes our downtown is lacking in amenities & such but I’m over the doom & gloom there comes a time we have to accept that our downtown is a slow growth process & was nearly left skeletal. I think we all know what’s lacking & not. Downtown isn’t perfect nor is St.Louis & it’ll never be perfect. Eventually development is going to begin picking up again & hopefully it’ll be sustainable. I feel there’s excitement but it’s being overshadowed by the negatives & what other cities are doing & have progressed. There are cranes dotting St.Louis’s skyline with more on the horizon. We don’t live in a state that promotes urban development & simply St.Louis will be a slow growth region no matter how much development occurs. There are only a few cities of interests if I shall ever go however my heart is St.Louis. We’ve come a long ways why stop?
We have fortune 500s
A blossoming tech community
Iconic sports teams with another on the horizon
World class architecture
Awmazing cuisine
Beautiful scenic landscapes & the highest peak in Missouri is right here in the St.Louis region
Awesome places to hike/bike ride
Great wine country
Wonderful people
World class institutions
One of the best urban parks on the planet
Melting pot in history
Middle of anywhere
Arguably one of the best flags in the world
4 seasonal weather
Frankly we’re one of the best kept secrets
And so much more
I think St.Louis is the perfect size not too big not too small.
St.Louis is only what you’ll make it to be

The reason I brought this up is that the Chicago rivalry and having the two teams from each League AL and NL with the most championships in each league play in STL its a once in a lifetime opportunity to take advantage of.

If the City Admin is smart it will market this week like there’s no tomorrow.

I’m actually excited for this week.

Like other’s have mentioned is not the same to sell games out than to have two of the largest markets in town back to back!!

The key is to get them to stay downtown and spend money other than the game. Someone that grabs dinner in Soulard (or other place outside of downtown) before the game, goes to the game, and then heads home after really does nothing for the heath and vibrancy of downtown.

It’s not the city’s job to market this, it’s explore STL and they do.

Former Club15 and whatever else it was called when Jim Edmonds owned it is now under contract. There have been previous restaurants that have tried to reopen it before the insane clown posse didn’t like their skin color and killed it.

It's also not that big of a deal - the Yankees played at Busch as recently as 2017 and then 2005 before then. With interleague play, they'll should be expected to play at Busch once every six years or so (assuming there are no scheduling oddities on a one-off basis).  All-Star games are more "once in a lifetime" and even then you should expect each city to host the game once every thirty years or so (again, give or take based upon new stadiums, markets that have two teams would be once every 15 years on average, etc).

^Cardinals played at Yankee Stadium in ‘17. Last time Yankees came here was ‘14 for Jeter’s farewell season. 8 years isn’t that long ago, but they’re also a completely different team since the last time they were here

Oops, you're right.  Was looking at the record in 2017 of when the Cardinals played in Yankee Stadium.  But still, point stands.  It'll be a good series that will be very popular, but nothing close to "once in a lifetime".

While I agree that eight years isn't once in a lifetime, that's still quite a while - especially for a regular season matchup.

It should be that MLB teams in opposite leagues visit each other no less than six seasons apart, but it rarely works out that way unless they're in the opposite league's same region - central/central, etc.

I honestly wish that MLB would shake up interleague play enough to have the term disappear. Nobody thinks twice about an AFC team playing an NFC team in the NFL; I think it should be the same way in MLB.

Times have changed since 1968 when only one team from each league made the playoffs, and from the '80s and early '90s when only two made it. Interleague play became a thing and it's been here for twenty-five years.

It's not new and it's no longer a novelty or even controversial. It's literally something that must happen each and every day of the season to make scheduling for a 30-team league work.

It's time to embrace the change and have teams from opposite leagues face each other each season, trading a home series every other year. Eight years is nonsensical.

Baseball can be so stodgy. I hope that changes in the future.

Ya’ll miss the point! Cubs and Yankees back to back, Covid has killed DT’s businesses big time. There’s more than baseball. This is a great opportunity to help our local businesses get a breather.

I'm not missing the point. Downtown should see some love that weekend. There's no doubt about that. The Yankees have fans in every corner of the world; there are plenty in St. Louis and there are plenty who will travel. It's gonna be good.

What I took objection with is the notion that the first Yankees trip to St. Louis in eight years isn't a big deal given MLB's goofy scheduling.

With day-to-day business at a low (even stalwarts like Sen have been closing on some weekdays), are they going to be able to ramp up to huge crowds quickly? Is it really helpful to have nobody - figuratively speaking- for most of the year, then crushing crowds for a week?

Who knows! But that week will bring business and if businesses and city get together to get ready for that week something can be done.

Another thing is whenever Wash Ave is close if they still doing that I haven’t been to my apartment in a few weeks. Businesses, artists, city and other should do what they do in Europe and Asia some type of night market or night events. Probably not now during winter but for Spring, Summer and Autumn.

I’m just throwing ideas left to right because DT is a ghost town and businesses are hurting bad and city even though they’re not doing to bad of a job are not like creative with their plans.

Other than me how many of the ones commenting here live DT? How can we get together and push some of our ideas? Nothing political but rather like a neighborhood group like CWE, FPSE, Dutch town and others have. Please don’t mention no CID or other established groups that haven’t done anything but talk. We need to brainstorm and push the ideas. A lot of us are tired of people just talking.

How is that yearly car show burnout/drifting event along Carr Street a permitted activity, being that it's right next to housing?

Those residents should have their rent refunded for three days at a bare minimum, since their homes are inundated with noise and pollution.

From afar, it kind of looks like another example of subhuman treatment of people of the wrong socioeconomic background.

Nobody should have to live at a racetrack.

About a month ago there were Bout 2-3 homeless camping at the city library on the Locust side. Today 16 Jan 2022 there’s about 8-10 of them. I don’t want them removed as it is very cold but instead being helped. Give them some type of safe and warm place. I know the police is seeing this and the city has to be aware of this. How come the city waits until there’s a huge mess to do something or help them?

When the city closed up the encampment between St Vincents and Square did they not move some of persons  slightly west in a large one story warehouse space?  Is that still being used for homeless/un-housed?  If not can it at be started up for cold emergencies?

Taproom has added some new mls stadium facing signage.

Also this building has a “leased/under contract” signed on top last week and now it’s gone. (Former Jim Edmonds place at locust/19th)
