Looks like it's going to be great. Any photos of the completed project?

St. Louis Business Journal reports that UrbanStreet Group and North American Properties plan to close on the Roberts Orpheum Theater by the end of this year. The new owners will first focus on completing the Roberts Tower and retail in the former Board of Education building, and then they will turn their attention to the Orpheum, Mayfair and buildings along Locust (once planned for a Hotel Indigo). The developers will finance the projects internally.

^Cool, hopefully they will get to it sooner rather than later. It would be nice to have it back open as a venue. I recall seeing Beck there in the mid-to-late 90's on his "Odelay" tour... Man I'm getting old...

So I noticed there was some work being done on this recently. Is it finally moving forward? What kind of theatre is it going to be? Live? Movie? With this, the hotel, and Roberts Tower opening soon, the OPO Square is about to achieve liftoff! Are they also doing the building across the street? The one with the gym on the first floor next to the garage.

With all of those and nearby the Chemical, Arcade, Bride's House, Alverne, etc., the heart of Downtown will be pulsing with activity in a few very short years, especially when they build the streetcar!

I'm very excited about all the development around the OPO. The former American Theater is a great place. I hope they reopen it sooner than later. Actually not just reopen, it needs and should be UTILIZED regularly. It has the potential to be a great asset to DT. It could and should bring in some Pagaent sized acts and other performances. Maybe they can involve Joe Edwards. He already has his investment down there in Flamingo Bowl

I just hope the proposed demos on Locust do not go through. I'm no developer, but I see a lot of potential in those buildings.

It will be interesting to see if this results in anything. I think I would feel better if Urban Street made necessary renovations and then unloaded it to a group that know how to book concerts and shows.

^ interesting thought. Is there even a comedy club downtown anymore? I think maybe Funny Bone out in Westport may be the most popular place, but am not sure.

It's probably too big for a comedy club. I think it would be difficult to maintain of steady stream of big name comedians to fill that place up.

I would like to see a House of Blues in the space. Right around the corner from the Blues Museum.

Seems like a perfect target for an SFX take over. They are buying theatres all over the country.

^ hopefully this will be sooner than later.... I also hope they can do something more on a nightly basis as opposed to just the occasional booking. Long-run theater show or comedy club, etc.

Yes. If they could book it 4-5 nights a week with shows and concerts it would put a massive jolt in an already growing district

Then with mini-concerts, guest musicians and tourists/locals at the National Blues Museum, this part of downtown would see much needed positive and increased pedestrian activity.

^^ In addition to the Blues museum, the slew of new restaurant openings will help re-activate the area -- in addition to the M/X openings coming up like an aeroplane flight path coming in for landings, Sauce on the Side and the gyro place will be opening at OPOP and Mango is moving to the area. The Courtyard by Marriott will be opening soon as well and the Arcade-Wright will bring more foot traffic to the area. Pretty exciting times, I think, and a regularly-used Orpheum venue would be even merrier.

Whatever happens, will be happy to see this area of the City once again be represented by a consistently-programmed live music/theatre venue. A House of Blues would be fine by me -- would couple nicely with the Blues Museum.

On a similar note, what's the status on B.B. King's Restaurant/Lounge in Midtown? I'm guessing that concept doesn't fit the Orpheum, but you never know...
