The article has a couple more views/renderings. I'm surprised there isn't variation with size/pricepoint/etc. as well. It sounds like the LafSq NIMBYs were out in force the other night. This project may have a ways to go. I can't see what old-timers would find objectionable about the old-timey bland infill, but it happens. Density and traffic, I suppose.

So Lafayette Square residents would rather have a giant vacant lot?

I think they are under the impression, like most of St. Louis, that if someone is interested then they can hold off until they get the design they want. Unfortunately they may not get another interested developer

Was anybody at the meeting? Do we know exactly what their complaints are?

And do we know why it was rejected? What was the official reason?

Wish the vacant block to the south would have plans for development.

Sounds like a legit reason.; from a Pres Board member:

PB decision turned on major problems with the drawings as presented. It was impossible to see how they addressed the site's challenges.

I'd love to see developments like this proposed and implementing in North St.Louis

Or in the many vacant tracts between SLU and the VA.

Agreed. Maybe the most feasible close to Old North/Crown Square before trying to inject these expensive homes into north city where they won't do too well. I think if you can recapture development there, north city can rebound, slowly but surely. Someone just has to make a start.

^ Anyone know the status of the new housing plan for Northside Regen that McKee announced last year? iirc it was some 500 units that were to get underway with a consortium this year

All of a sudden he now has money to take care of those homes he's neglected for years?

And what kind of development will we see? The cheapest? It's just too frustrating.

I think starting with something similar to this Praxair plan near Old North would be realistic. Maybe the bottleworks lofts ever getting done. Small projects that can add some real value to fringe neighborhoods and connect them with the CBD.

I like this quote from the article:

But board member Anthony Robinson blamed the historic neighborhood’s ordinances that use a limited set of historic models as templates for new developers for the lack of variance in the developer’s plans, calling the code shortsighted and leaving little room for big projects.

“We need to deviate from the historic model to get some variance,” he said.

I can't read the full article, but this might be trouble for the development if Pulte is exiting StL.

I don't think this necessarily puts the development in trouble. This exit has been planned for a while I would guess..

No mention of the Praxair site specifically. Just this:

"...the homebuilder will build out its remaining communities, which he anticipated being complete by the end of 2018."

God damnit!

I wonder what was the final nail in the coffin for them in STL? People complaining about the rears of homes requiring brick on a completely vacant lot that is generating nothing?
