^My take on his response was that there was simply no new news on the project, and since there were no Ghazi representatives or McGuires to speak for the project, he didn't want to say anything that might be incorrect or out of date. I thought Pat Shannon's comment was kind of funny, it went something like: "There is an ice cold bottle district at Shannon's and Copia every night." I suppose there was kind of a wink-wink, nudge-nudge, roll-your-eyes kind of feel to their comments about Gateway Village, but I wouldn't read too much into it.

Aren't they supposed to release some updated renderings of phase one soon? I was also understanding that they plan to start construction this fall.

^ No trent, we know the line by now:

construction is schedualed to start insert upcoming season and year

Really though, I do hope this project gets off the ground. It doesn't have to be a 1,000 or 2,000 unit residential bonaza, it really just needs to be a good extension of the tourist trap landing and a good venue to attract future conventions to downtown. A few hotels and a residential tower. Not the great hope for downtown, but a solid addtion to the area.

Agreed. I think the days of us anticipating 3 glorious towers is over, now I think we just hope to see something happen.

Ok , so I was driving on 70 heading north towards the airport , when out of the corner of my eye I spotted some significant new construction activity just due north of the old warehouse owned by Mcguire moving storage. I think that this activity is part of the BD project , however I may be wrong. Can somebody please clarify. If this is part of the development , then It appears the project is well underway. If this is the case man did they put these new buildings up rather quick!!!!!

Wrong side of the highway , and the developement dosen't appear to assocaited with the new appartment rehabs occuring next to the BD. There's def something going on just north of the Mcguire moving storeage building.

This is the casino construction going on right across from the Edward Jones dome. Are you saying you saw some major construction to the right of the dome (on those dirt patches) in this picture?

It would be hard to believe that BD construction is all of a sudden underway. The BD's own website says that contstruction is to begin in Fall 2006.

The construction seems to located just south of Cass Blvd and 17th street . Tomorrow I may ride my bike up to the area with a digital .

Like I said I don't know if this is a part of the BD ? So I invite others to explain whats going on at the sight described above ?

I believe you are talking about Cambridge Heights Townhomes, not part of the BD, these are replacing the Cochran Gardens. Once completed residents will be moved into these homes, the Cochran will then be demolished and more townhomes like these built in its place. Many will be market rate with some marked for low income, they do look nice with brick on three sides instead of just the front. Also the low income housing across the street is being gutted and rehabed so the area is looking better, it will be interesting to see what it looks like next spring and summer.

Yep , on my Lunch this afternoon . I took the ye old roller blades up to the BD construction site, anyways the construction I described above appears to be a part of Cochran Gardens. It looks like the portion nearest to the BD is going to have a bit of modern feel. Any renderings ? That said it appeared as though heavy equipment was begin moved onto the site of the BD.

That is all for now ,

Im pretty sure this whole BD project is just a conspiracy and a myth, Just like 9/11, the Holocaust, The Lochness Monster, North dakota, and several other Legendary legends.

"Many will be market rate with some marked for low income"

This is an endless cycle of bs. The whole mixed income/ "market" rate housing needs to be built miles from downtown. This is an endless cycle. I give these a shelf life of no more than 20/30 years. HIGH END developments need to occur around the downtown core or we might as well forget about the whole "rebirth" of downtown. Lafayette needs to connect to downtown and so does Soulard, now there's Pyramid's "mixed income development" that I think is today's version of Laclede town- well HOPEFULLY not that bad. These are always "feel good" developments that don't always work as planned. Ideally, I hope they do, I'll try to be an optimist but just look at their track record. I don't think people are going to buy into a "50" story high rise in the bottle district with a "mixed income" development across the street, sorry. Put the mixed/ income developments elsewhere in the city, they're a drain on the comeback of downtown.

For whatever it's worth, the BD site has been populated with a battalion of tractors. Maybe it's staging for something else, but I'd like to think it's a sign of forward momentum.

How many 'groundbreaking ceremonies' have been had on projects that never happened? I'm just curious, since we continue to wait with very little movement, for a project that already had a groundbreaking ceremony.

I don't think that's been updated. The Fall 2007 opening means that the first phase of construction would be finished, not when construction starts.

Yeah, if you'll notice, the latest update to the Bottle District news webpage is almost a year old: http://www.thebottledistrict.com/newsvi ... headerID=5

One of the articles talks about Joe Edwards bowling alley being placed in the BD. With Edwards already building an alley at Lucas Lofts, I don't see another one going into the BD a few blocks away.

Two of the three major attractions seem duplicitous in downtown. Rawlings Sports Bar & Grille? We have plenty of sports bars downtown. Cabo Wabo Cantina? Oh, the Landing.

As far as major new developments, I think St. Louis would be much better served by strengthening the core of downtown (Ballpark Village) and finishing many of the lofts in the CBD and vicinity than this proposition which looks like it could end up being another St. Louis Centre. Only thing it has going for it is the built in residential in Gateway Village. If it's built.

What this project needs is momentum. If not, I say scrap it.
