Not sure what this has to do with a food festival in St. Louis County?hebeters2 wrote:Remember Carbondale Illinois?
WSIL TV in Illinois. “Dismal home sales numbers in Carbondale get worse as more folks hang out the ‘for sale’ sign. ‘Last year was the beginning of what’s going on this year, and this year it’s worse,’ explains realtor Terri Henry. Block by block, sign after sign, she says she hasn’t seen home sales this slow in the past two decades. ‘There were 11 homes on the market and up till now there’s only been one that has sold and closed, so it’s going to take us 66 months to get rid of these homes at that rate,’ says Henry.”
“Resident Ingrid Hansen noticed that same trend hit what she describes as a ‘well established’ neighborhood near the university. ‘The home next door has been vacant for four months but usually they sell within a year. I don’t know, maybe this year it will be different,’ she says.”
“Henry says it’s definitely a buyer’s market, but she doesn’t see many out there. ‘If you have 100 homes and you only have 25 people to buy, you’re going to be left over with 75 homes, so its going to be those homes that are in great condition, great area, ready to sell or the best deal,’ she explains.”
“Realtors say if a homeowner is having trouble selling the property they might choose to rent it out, but that creates another challenge since Carbondale already has a saturated rental market.”

This type of event is perfect for our park that runs down the middle of downtown - the Gateway Mall. exactly the type of thing it is good for. Lacledes Landing and Grand Center would also make for more impactful locations. We can’t even put this in Forest Park?
Why do we hate ourselves? Even our food festival wants to be in downtown Clayton?
This will never be a top festival in the country in downtown Clayton, and thats what we should strive for.
Im so disappointed by this news
Why can’t we just see as people of this region that this only holds us back

I thought the upper Muny lot was going to be used for festivals of this type.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Feb 25, 2025This type of event is perfect for our park that runs down the middle of downtown - the Gateway Mall. exactly the type of thing it is good for. Taste of STL hasn’t been the same since it went to Chesterfield. Since then it’s been like 25% of what it was during its original downtown run
This is my experience. My family went almost every year before it went to Chesterfield but literally haven't gone since then, even when it came back.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 25, 2025Taste of STL hasn’t been the same since it went to Chesterfield. Terrible leadership in that organization. It’s like choosing a register at the grocery store. See better line, regret moving, move back, regret moving again.
Would be better and bigger event if they had never moved in the first place.

Taste of St. Louis is like a network sitcom from the 80s or 90s that moved its time slot and wondered why it couldn't hold an audience.

The thumbnail image on the PD for this story is a 12+ year old image from the original iteration of Taste of St. Louis. I ***** hate our local media.

Like a house bound 90 year old I watched Donnybrook last night.
Was surprised that Charlie Brennan claimed Taste moving out of downtown is no big deal
But then he segued into Wave Taco's FB screed about moving their leagues to Illinois stating that was sonehow a loss to DT.
Sigh.

Well, at least they were very clear crime wasn’t a factor in their decision to leave downtown.

Why isn't this at Forst Park? Am I missing something? To me that just seems obvious.

Apparently they tried for Forest Park and were denied. The Arch Grounds were cost prohibitive.
I think it will do well in Clayton, but I’d rather see int in the city.

I think they'll see more of the same in Clayton. It won't "do bad" but it's not gonna return to what it used to be.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Mar 04, 2025Apparently they tried for Forest Park and were denied. The Arch Grounds were cost prohibitive.

Did anyone attend Taste of St. Louis in Clayton this past weekend? I saw a couple of posts on the socials that it was absolutely dead. However, since I wasn't there, figured I'd ask in case it was someone just doing a doom and gloom post for clicks?

I went Friday night - it was fine. I would say maybe 1,000 people there? Maybe? It was only 2 blocks shut off in clayton and wasnt particularly busy.MRNHS wrote: ↑Aug 20, 2025Did anyone attend Taste of St. Louis in Clayton this past weekend? Food was worse then last time I attended Taste of STL which was probably when it was last downtown. My sense was Taste of STL was a way to try a a bunch of cool STL restaurants food in one spot. I would say 65/70% of the vendors weren't STL restaurants. they seemed like they were just more festival type food places that show up to state fairs, church festivals, etc. not very exciting.

Yeah, there were like 3 restaurants I had heard of and they were the typical places (not that that’s bad) like Steve’s, Seoul Taco etc.
I went and had good food. It was approximately 1000 degrees out and no shade at all, and very little seating provided. It seemed thrown together and very last minute compared to other events hosted in DT Clayton.

Idk why it’s so hard to do work with the city and do this in the Gateway Mall and get the restaurants to participate. Might be time to engage another group to try to put this event together. Maybe the people who run Winterfest?
