Jewsiers? Sluhsiers? Well, I guess Scottrade Center will have its share of Bluesiers (or Bloosiers if you prefer) in a couple of months. 8)

"Jewsier" because I like the outdoors, camping, and own a gun.

I never thought Jews could be hoosiers until I met some from waaay west county, chesterfield.

^ Two words. Kinky Friedman - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinky_Friedman. Although he may be too smart and eccentric to be a true hoosier.

Yeah, Kinky's cool. Definitely not a hoosier.

Well, I'm not sure. With this look, though, he'd blend in well with many of the fans there!

Strassenfest to take a year off

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/s ... enDocument

this could be good. I was starting to wonder what Miller Lite tallboys and mullet bands had to do with my German heritage.

Make it an Oktoberfest - the weather is better that time of year.

It was 102 degrees, that's why no one went this past year.

Bingo.

With the rare exception of this past year, when it was 92 degrees for the Soulard Oktoberfest.

Strassenfest might move to O'Fallon

High costs have caused festival to seek new home

By Elizabeth Perry

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 1:13 PM CDT

Strassenfest is seeking a new home in O'Fallon.

The festival, which has been an annual event for about 44 years, is moving from downtown St. Louis because of high costs associated with holding the event in the city, according to Strassenfest co-organizer Pat Mueller.

Before the O'Fallon City Council workshop meeting Thursday, Strassenfest co-organizer Lou Mueller suggested moving the festival to O'Fallon."We're getting nervous we can't continue," Lou Mueller said.

The organization lost $50,000 last year, he said.

Nearby Kimmswick and Ferguson have expressed interest in hosting the festival, as well as a few other places, Lou Mueller said.

He said he thinks O'Fallon would be ideal for Strassenfest because of all the young families who live there.

Robert Amlung, director captain of the Moolah Mounted Lancers, has had a booth at Strassenfest for years.

"It's just one more black eye for the city of St. Louis," Amlung said.

I say let them go. That event isn't fun anyways. I find it hard to believe people will drive all the way to O'Fallon for this, but we'll see I suppose.

They'll drive from as far as Dardene Prairie and perhaps even Weldon Spring.

I have fond memories of this when I was a kid in the 80's, but in recent years it seems to have gone downhill.

Soulard Oktoberfest has become the more authentic celebration.

I have no problem with this. It's hoosiery anyway.

Badenfest needs to be brought back though.

How do they loose money having this in the City? I'm sure it's so expensive to operate here.

The reason they're moving it is because a good portion of residents are from O'Fallon. They probably don't like parking here nor seeing African Americans. O'Fallon is the proper sterilized choice.

All I can say is What? Chesterfield Parkway?

Soulard Oktoberfest is a better event anyway, I like the gratuitous comment about the reason being that people would not come downtown.

God knows people don't come downtown for events like Fair St. Louis, Rib Fest, etc...

Darn and I never made it to one. I have gone to the RibFest and Hispanic Festival though at the Soldiers Memorial...To me that location has about the same charm for me as the new location on Chesterfield Pkwy. Then again holding this event in August doesn't make too much sense, hopefully the move to September helps them out.

I do like the Soulard Oktoberfest, it seems more intimate and charming area than the Soldiers Mem.

To be fair, this is one way to get rid of the hoosiers.

Strassenfest = old hoosiers from god-knows-where

Soulard Octoberfest = a few hoosiers and a lot of younger city residents.

Too bad they couldn't have tried the new date at the downtown location, or maybe in another neighborhood in the city. Wash ave? Baden? I guarantee no city residents will treck out to west co for this, at least I won't.

This is the message I left on the STLtoday forum:

You City Haters are right! let's replace the composite photo of downtown and the arch that represents the region with an aerial of 270 and 40! hello progress! even better, maybe one of the "country's longest strip mall in the flood plain!"

I won't be going to this mullet fest turned westco mullet fest.

the only thing good about this is the move from Aug to Sept.
