For one LA isn't even close to even putting a package together to build a stadium all of its speculation for the most part. I really don't think Stan's intentions on buying the team was to move it to LA cause he would of even if he's been very quiet. Georgia moved this team here for all the right reasons since the Bidwells up and left. She was very passionate about the team being here and was committed to St.Louis. Georgia was a Missouri native and so is Stan. I think we as St.Louisan's worry way way too much. This could have turned out very horrible if this was an investment group from LA instead of it being Stan. I guess I'm overly a optimistic person i believe Stan saved NFL here this could of gone in the wrong direction in so many ways. The only way this team leaves is if St.Louis has this well pack your bags and go attitude that has got to stop. We here are so fortunate to have the Cardinals Blues and Rams even if the Rams aren't winning we are still very fortunate to have them here. Places like Louisville Portland Austin Las Vegas Memphis Birmingham are trying so hard to big league pro sports cities...

I used to dive into those waters, but I gave up. Bring facts and logic to a discussion with those guys, and they resort to shouting and name calling. There's a lot of uncivil discourse on Facebook, but that page is one of the worst.juiceinkirkwood wrote:We'll see. I would imagine it will take me several weeks to get online and taunt all of the BBTLAR idiots if the Rams stay in STL. They infuriate me.
I don't think those cities above are too concerned about their "big league" status. After living in Memphis, the small group of guys I got to know didn't mind not having NFL at all. They embraced the Grizzlies and followed other sports diligently, but didn't feel like they were "missing out." I think there is a level of contentment in the smaller tier cities with what they have because it seems to work. In one (or none) pro sport cities, people seem to really rally around the teams they have and that's that. A place like Memphis just doesn't have the corporate base or regional population to sustain more teams- that was the opinion of Memphians, not someone judging the city from the outside-and they were fine with it.
In our situation, we've already lost a baseball team, an NBA team, an ABA team, an NFL team, are flirting with a possible soccer team, and are threatened by the loss of another NFL team while our non sports identity is simultaneously being called out in the national media. Those factors make it difficult for St. Louis sports fans not to be a little defensive and worried all the time. We are big enough to probably be in the company of Minneapolis and Denver for franchises, however, we have a hard time demonstrating contentment with both what we have and don't have at the same time. It seems reflective of our regional attitude toward many assets from a both a fan and corporate perspective alike.
If and when the Rams re-commit to the region, I for one and looking forward to devoting myself 100% to this team without the mental asterisk that gets in the way sometimes. Not that I wouldn't still follow them if they moved, but it wouldn't be the same. Perhaps that's an example of the fair-weather fandome that the LA fans bash us for, but I see it more of a fervent backing of STL. My response to that would be how passionately would LA fans be calling for the Rams to come back if 1) the lease issue didn't exist and 2) an expansion team would have landed there in 1999-2000? That would have left the LA Rams fans in a similar situation as us in 1994-1995 when our GridBirds were "replaced" about 7 years later.

I try to figure out why St. Louis is a "bad" sports city when the Twin Cities lost an NBA team (the Lakers) , a couple of ABA teams, struggled with the NHL for year and then lost the NorthStars plus almost lost the Vikings.blzhrpmd2 wrote:I don't think those cities above are too concerned about their "big league" status. Good point. Another example is Atlanta. It's one of the top ten metropolitan areas and consistently ranks among the fastest-growing regions, but it has lost professional hockey teams twice (first the Flames, then the Thrashers). They stole our Hawks, but they don't exactly have a lot of support at the moment. Then there are the Falcons, with a new stadium on the way, and the Braves, also with a new stadium, but one that bucks the trend toward downtown locations for sports venues.dweebe wrote:I try to figure out why St. Louis is a "bad" sports city when the Twin Cities lost an NBA team (the Lakers) , a couple of ABA teams, struggled with the NHL for year and then lost the NorthStars plus almost lost the Vikings.
Atlanta is a very important city, without a doubt, but it's not exactly a great sports city.
Also, Kansas City lost the Kings (NBA), Athletics (MLB), and the Scouts (NHL). The lucky bastards got an MLS team, though.

Looks like the Peacock led group is going to try to drum up support for some public funding.
I remember the Cardinals tried this back in the early 2000s. It didn't work. Hopefully, they are able to get the 1/3 they need.
Maybe they can call Pitney Bowes!

^ depending upon what ransom we're asked, I can easily see saying "good riddance." I asked a bit ago if we have any idea of what an extension of our present subsidy would add up to for a new stadium; if they want anything greater than that I think it will be a difficult ask.
^^ It looks like Atlanta will be the big winner with the Braves vacating and moving to the burbs with what they have cooking for the site.

i have read that the public funding aspect could be gathered by PSL's and naming rights...And that's where I wonder if Peacock can entice AB-Inbev into a 20-year deal....

If we're talking outdoor stadiums, I think CenturyLink Field (Seattle) is the consensus gold standard, for both the MLS and NFL games that it hosts.arch_genesis wrote:Agreed on the price tag, I can't see an outdoor stadium in St. Louis costing much more than that. I'd love to see a 55/45 split $440M Kroenke+G4, $360M public. It's the least he can do for this horrible decade of football and the torment of loyal fans.
According to this Wikipedia article, construction only cost $564 million in 2014 dollars.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CenturyLink_Field
Something tells me it shouldn't be too hard to get Stan to pay $188 million, the NFL to pay $188 million, and $188 million to come from somewhere else, be it PSLs, naming rights, extending the existing bonds in place to pay for STL stadia, some kind of hotel/car rental/airline tax on visitors, tax-increment financing, some combination of the aforementioned, or whatever else.
David Peacock isn't some old dog past his prime, he's in his early-to-mid 40's and is still looking to add to his legacy. In other words, he's in this to win it. He's been working on this for the past year-and-a-half already.
Get 'er done, Dave. I wanna be able to tailgate outside a stadium on the banks of the Mississippi!
I think 2014 dollars is a bit different than what construction costs in 2014. I think there former (and what you're seeing) is based on inflation, while the latter is based on industry costs. Construction costs more now.
Also, while everyone still loves CenturyLink field, it is 12 years old, and teams want even more things in their stadium now.
(But man, isn't that frustrating to think that one of the most-loved stadiums in the league opened a mere 7 years after the Edward Jones Dome. We got screwed so hard by short-sighted planning and circumstance. Ugh.)

Welcome to St. Louis, Gregg Williams. There was the complete defensive performance we've been waiting for. QB pressure, sacks at critical times, bone crushing hits, and turnovers. Great to watch. Hope they can sustain it and keep up the ball control on offense.
Go Rams.
Go Rams.
Wonderful game. All the way around. The defense only had one lapse (the ever common defensive back mixup leading to a wide open deep ball late in the first half). The main thing was they didn't let it snow ball on them today. Didn't let the weekly horrific and unfair penalty call take them down either. Really came to play.
The offense was solid. Mason, unspectacularly, ate up yardage and clock. Hill made some big throws, including one really big throw. The receivers really hauled in most everything they had a shot at (which was big because as happy as I was with Hill, he threw a lot of good but not great balls—receivers made the plays).
Greg Robinson whiffed bad on one block and it led to a sack-fumble, but fortunately, Hill fell right on the ball. That was about the only major mistake on offense. They did struggle to convert TDs in the red zone, but Greg Zuerlein seems to have himself back on track, making all the chip shots and knocking through a couple of 50+ yard kicks for 5 total FGs.
Just a really fantastic performance start to finish.
They're probably out of the playoff picture, but it'd be great to see them get on a roll and finally grab that elusive .500 season (or better!). Who knows, if they can get there, maybe we can start taking a look at the playoff standings, but right now better to just focus on stringing some wins together.

At one time St.Louis did have a NHL team called the St.Louis Eagles that eventually moved to Ottawa to become the Senators. That team folded. In 1968 St.Louis was awarded an expansion NHL team along with 8 other cities i believe correct me if I'm wrong but yes St.Louis does have a long standing history in the NHL that most don't know about either way i believe its very important no matter what the circumstances are to keep the Rams here especially if we the people here are concerned about our sports history. When you look at it i don't think any city is immune from any team relocating.
I find it so amusing that the whining babies of Denver are complaining about Peyton Manning and their chances at winning the super bowl have been dashed by the Rams. I love it these people are just spoiled brats that aren't accustomed to losing at all. For one they fail to give credit to a 3-6 team that should easily be at 500. or better on top of that having the 3rd or 4th toughest schedule in the league and having your #1QB and a few other key people isn't the easiest thing to do. This team has a desire to win people here in St.Louis should anticipate a very good team for quite awhile soon. Embrace them while they are still here
I have not read any Denver media or fan rumblings, but I'd be mad, too, if my team got destroyed by a 3-6 team. Given the parity in the league, I think any NFL fan knows that any team can put up a fight, but you still have to beat a team like the Rams with an anemic offense and potent yet still vulnerable defense.
This would be like the Cardinals in the midst of strong season dropping 2 of 3 to the sub 0.500 Cubs in early September. Cardinal fans get called out for being spoiled and taking winning for granted, but it's all relative. One's expectations should rise according to potential and results. The clock is running on Manning and that was a lot of game film for opponents to dissect for the remainder of the season. The Super Bowl for them is like the Rams striving for a 0.500 record; Anything less is going to be a disappointment.
It will be interesting to see how both teams respond next week.

^ injuries didn't help the Broncos but they also were completely dismantled by the Pats recently.... they better figure things out quick or the Chiefs, and not them, will be having a home playoff game.
Rams have a favorable schedule from here on out with only the AZ Cardinals at home looking like a tough one. So we'll see how consistent this team can be as they finish out the season.

next 3 are very winnable games- 7-6 going into Thursday Night Football vs Arizona is very possible and so is beating Arizona...we had them on the ropes until Austin Davis went all pick six on us in the 4th qt last week.
Some blunt words from our hometown guy:

I still have a hard time understanding all these references to "keeping the NFL in STL" in some capacity outside of the Rams. I realize Jags talk has surfaced since the team was up for sale, but that just seems so farfetched given their lease. I suppose anything is possible.
If the team was upset by the Mayor of Inglewood's comments, I would imagine they are not thrilled about these. At this stage in the game, it is not hard to imagine that every public comment on this matter is strategic, especially one from Joe Buck, though his feelings seem pretty genuinely spoken as a St. Louis sports fan.

Great game yesterday, really enjoyed it. That said, did anyone see the Martin Kilcoyne / Joe Buck interview that aired last night?
Quote from Joe Buck:
To me this *was* kind of groundbreaking news. I mean I've heard it before from others who usually seem to either be ones who just like to stir the pot or aren't supporters of STL or the Rams but hearing it come from Joe Buck was a different thing altogether to me. ...Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention though?

Link: http://fox2now.com/2014/11/16/joe-buck- ... rts-final/I’ve heard from people in the league that I respect, who have power in the league, that it is just a matter of time. That Stan Kroenke’s plan is to go to LA. That is not groundbreaking or earth shattering news. I’m really disappointed in Stan Kroenke.

nothing groundbreaking- just more of the poker game- month ago Chris Mortensen said he was sure the Rams are moving- friday on the 920am he said they will probably stay and said he had info that he isnt ready to report yet thats good news for people who want the Rams in St.Louis. for all we know Joe Buck may be part of the Peacock PR machine to get people to take this seriously in case there is a need for a public vote.
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report who has no dog in the fight said NFL officials told him that NFL prefers the Rams to stay and the Stan would prefer to stay if a new stadium is done here.... No team has ever moved when a new stadium has been presented and despite what some people think, NFL does NOT allow teams to move because their value would increase- if they did, 29 other teams would be trying to move to LA

That defense. Woo. The Broncos never even sniffed the RedZone. Gregg Williams has given us a meaaannn defense and we're building depth. Teams are scared to play our defense. And we're getting Chris Long back soon. I really wanna run off a nice win streak.
Snead is good, he just needs to work his magic on offense. I think this off season is the year we finally do it. We need a center and a left guard. I hope Bradford can comeback healthy and on a restructured deal. With a real alternative at QB of course. I'm also starting to believe people who say we need a new OC - someone who can put Tavon in places to be explosive.
All in all, I really think we're moving in the right direction.

We should have a relocation-only thread. And if required, a potential team name thread. Just to cut some noise

^ Two thumbs up on that.... i'm going to start a new thread to hopefully handle new stadium/potential relocation talk and leave this to talk about how the Rams D is able to slice and dice Old Man Manning and such. If that's okay with folks.
That's a pretty darn very safe assumption since they're business partners on the local Jamba Juice stores.dbInSouthCity wrote:nothing groundbreaking- just more of the poker game- month ago Chris Mortensen said he was sure the Rams are moving- friday on the 920am he said they will probably stay and said he had info that he isnt ready to report yet thats good news for people who want the Rams in St.Louis. for all we know Joe Buck may be part of the Peacock PR machine to get people to take this seriously in case there is a need for a public vote.

Interesting what Real Madrid is getting with a $500million "re-skinning" of their existing stadium.
